Sorry for the long absence folks, back in bussiness now.
Rhoda started playing, choosing a song called Vamo'alla Vlamenco. It was upbeat but not what most people would call fast. She smiled at Sander as she played. The pick hit the strings almost automatically, playing the song with no conscious effort on her part.
I can't believe that I'm about to write a post about smuggling people through airport security in a thread about school life for slightly-less-than-average teenagers. Something seems entirely wrong about it...
Welp, here goes anyway. I can't actually remember if anyone has ever written a post like this on The Escapist before. Here's to there being a first time for everything...
*knock knock* The lid of the box opened again.
Mister Blue poked his head in once more and said his piece, "Miss DeVtoe, we're about 5 minutes from landing now, so we have to get you a good disguise. If you could choose a marked box to hide in, that would be useful. I'd prefer not to have to use any magic to get you through the airport."
She complied, getting out of her unmarked box, bringing whichever sweets she hadn't quite eaten yet, and going around to find another suitably sized temporary home. She settled with a box filled with blankets. It was soft, any sound she made would be muffled and she could hide beneath them if anyone happened to check inside the box. Perfect. She slithered inside, wrapping herself in the velvet-y embrace of the blankets.
The light disappeared once again, leaving her to eat a Twix bar in complete blackness.[hr]
As the plane landed and the cargo hold's very own door began to open Mister Blue cast his own little illusion, his decayed skin piecing back together and filling into any gaps to make an almost handsome figure. He looked this way and that before pulling the box away from the rest and waited for some baggage handler to appear.
One did, quite quickly, and they got to work. When they began to load the blanket-filled crate Mister Blue sneaked up behind the man and tapped him upon the shoulder.
"Green, it has been a while."
The baggage handler spun around. "Blue? Jesus, man! Of course it's been a while. Last time I saw you you were still with that slamming French hottie!" He greeted Mister Blue with a friendly hug. "You still in the transporting business?"
"Of course. What do you think is in the box behind you?" Blue chuckled.
"Perfect. Just let me see the lucky one this time." Green turned to open the box.
Blue pushed past him, slamming his hand on top of the box. "That... would be a bad idea. She is to keep as low a profile as possible."
"So it is a chick. You never could resist a damsel in distress," Green removed his own hand from the box, "Okay, I'll see what I can do for you. Security has been all over my ass recently but I'll probably be able to arrange something to keep them preoccupied and get your girl through quiet-like."
"Thank you." Mister Blue patted Green on the shoulder before leaving the craft, leaving to go get things ready on his own end.
Green tapped the box and sighed. Whoever this was, he wasn't allowed to look. He put the thought aside and wheeled a small pivot underneath the crate, pulling the crate up with little effort and moving it down from the plane. He repeated the task perhaps hundreds of times, chuckling when he first noticed the mess Lillith had made, before all the boxes from the plane were loaded upon a small car with a long train of trailers stretching out behind it.[hr]
The carts rolled up to the terminal, Green at the helm of his small flotilla of commercially owned crates. Now usually Green would have to put each one through a metal detector. But he 'forgot' about the crate of blankets, which he casually let through with no thought. Thus the crate would now be completely free to go out to where ever it was headed with no-one else needing to check it.
Green wouldn't let that happen though. He had to get it out to the front so that Mister Blue could get his little would-be refugee into America. And that's where his little helper, Miss Red, came into play. In this act of the play, she would be acting the part of another baggage handler, checking the specified crate as a secondary precaution.
The crate would go to her, she would find something worth checking and would move the crate to a quiet, secure area to await inspection. More truthfully, the area had an unmarked van waiting that would be used to transport Lillith the rest of the way. The plan would be carried out, as it had been several hundreds of times before, and the airport staff would not suspect a thing.[hr]
Red pulled the crate along the terminal, toward the room in which she would be left alone with the crate. As she closed the door she looked around and smiled. "It's safe to come out now."
A hidden door appeared in the furthest wall and Mister Blue walked in. "Miss Red. A pleasure."
"Blue? I though White was conducting transfers this term?"
"Sadly no. His wife went into a labour so he's stuck back at home." He shrugged and lifted the boxes lid off, letting air flood in to Lillith.
"Christ! I thought I was never going to get out of there!" Lillith literally jumped out of the box, wrapping her arms around Mister Blue and hugging him, breathing deeply the entire time.
"Well well. And we wonder why you got into the business, Blue?" He shot Red a look and coughed, prompting Lillith to let go of him.
"Miss DeVtoe. If you would kindly follow me, we can continue." He pushed his way back through the hidden wall, with Lillith and Red following quickly after. He pulled the van's back door open, Lillith went inside and he locked it. The two agents both took the front seats.
Miss Red looked back from her seat, watching as Lillith settled in to her new surroundings. "Lillith DeVtoe. Let me be the first to say 'Welcome to the United States.'"
"Well, I know some basic elemental spells, setting things on fire and turning things cold as well as some basic spells in Necromancy, but overall I know little about the magic that I was granted. I just know there is allot of it pent up inside me"
Glancing over at Max, Nathan couldn't help but chuckle
"We actually met one of the teachers, he seemed like a very... lenient man"
Ok have gone with the classical vampire approach. Everything from the original character sheet still stands except for the demon-related stuff.
When I say Classical I am talking of Christopher Lee as Dracula like vampires. Not the modern variety. Also the shadow warping thing still stands.
"Ehm excuse me?" The lady with the clipboard looked up "Yes?" "I was wondering if you could tell me where I am as I seem to have gotten lost." "You are in Saint Poemandres Boarding School." "Huh. What do you knoow for once I turned up were I'm supposed to. My name is Alexander C. O'Riordan and I'm a new student. Could you tell me were my room is please."
The woman pointed him in the general direction. "Thank you very much." He said as he pulled out his copy of Faust's "Clockwork of the Mind and set off down the corridor. "Excuse me you forgot your luggage" the woman called after him. "What? Oh yes" he looked at the luggage which was all brass bottomed "Come along now" and with that the luggage raised itself on brass spider like legs and followed him along the corridor. As they went by the woman could distinctly hear the clicking of a clock.
Coming to you today with the ever so wonderful "20 mysterious rumors" list to add to a free player driven game world. Each of these rumors may or may not be true about the school. It's up to you to decide! There are rumors of any kind here, from the funny to the creepy, from the quite reasonable to the completely ridiculous. Take whatever makes the game more fun for you.
1. Three armies of rats, the black, the red, and the white, fight a bloody napoleonic style war in the basement. Sometimes at night you can hear their cannons.
2. In a locked room in one of the towers one can find hundreds of different doors. Doors of all shapes, sizes and colors. Nobody is sure where any of them leads.
3. A big figure clad in knightly armor sometimes walks down the corridors late at night. It's carrying a rusty lantern which emits a ghostly, bewitching light, and an aura of supernatual silence.
4. A giant with a thick accent lives in the forest near the school. He mostly wants to be left alone. Sometimes said to play the bagpipes, actually pretty well.
5. One of the mad scientist teachers? Brain in a jar. He speaks through an odd brass microphone thingy, with a cold, metallic voice.
6. Problematic kids who are deemed pretty much completely hopeless by the school staff are sometimes turned into crows and released to the world. That would explain the large number of the black birds on the roofs of the school.
7. Oneirius, headmaster of the school, has a secret agenda. He gains something from this all that he is not telling anyone about, and this something might be a very terrible thing indeed.
8. Never go into the woods around the school on the nights of the full moon. The werewolves might deny it, but most of them are actually simply released out there during that time to hunt free.
9. Being undead, vampires don't actually ever grow up. Vampire students stay in the school forever. Is this hell?
10. The ancient oak in the middle of the garden will never let anyone near his acorns. That's because the acorns will grant great powers, or maybe immortality, to the one who will manage to gather three of them.
11. On midsummer and midwinter nights, the courts of faerie hold grand celebrations in the great hall of the school. Some students are invited. They go at their own peril.
12. Teen pregnancies are alwayes a mess, but they are much more so when the parants may very well be, say, a dragon and a yeti. The aborted fetuses from these incidents are not disposed of, they are kept in jars in a hidden, highly guarded room. It's unclear exactly why...
13. There is an alien spaceship hidden beneath the lake.
14. There is an ancient being of terrible power and madness trapped beneath the lake.
15. Exchange students are not very common, but sometimes unique species' from other places come to the school. They tell of russian rusalkas, and some rakshasas from india, even an australian bunyip.
16. The school does not actually exist. You are all just insane.
17. Some agents for the Ministry of Shadows might think that they are working for the greater good, but the organization is actually led by some pretty selfish and even downright evil people who are just trying to keep all the magic to themselves.
18. On special dates and in hidden places, goblin markets come to the school grounds. They sell all kinds of interesting things. Love, success, popularity. If, of course, you are willing to pay the price.
19. Dracula, Lycaon, Merlin, Puck, and Victor Frankenstein are all members of the school board.
20. God is dead. As in, literally. The angels are at somewhat of a loss.
Sam watch Max follow Nathan out, he picked up his bag from the table and took it into the room to opposite the Lich. Once there he turned it inside out on the bed. Out fell a Violin case, a large assortment of cloths and a black marble tube about six inches long and two wide, he delicatly picked it up. It was covered in carvings small symbols and faces, unscrewing the end he pulled out a small obsidian blade. Placing it on the desk gently, he sorted his cloths into the available draws.
"Right now who to give this too..." he said picking it up. Carolina she had human blood. .
He looked outside, the sun had dimmed in the sky and night drew in. Time for some fun he thought tucking the case firmly in his back pocket.
Climbing out the window, he flew around looking for the right window. Bingo .
Alighting on the windowsill he easily opened it from the outside, he climbed into the room, "There you guys are!" he said cheerily, inhailing he looked at Carolina, taking steps towards her, his forked tongue running across his teeth "Oh good! I was getting hungry."
Thanks man, I didn't expect you to total change your character. I feel honoured.
Carolina jumped and let out a small yelp of surprise when she heard the window open and a demon crawled through. She had seen him hanging out with Max and Nathan when she first met them, in fact she had been called a snack. "Well you'll have to find yourself someone else to eat, I don't seem to be on the menu tonight," she said timidly, her voice sounding braver in her head then out loud. "And there is this new invention called a door, handy little bugger it is," she said her fingers starting to move silently beside her back in the familiar chord progressions. The small kitchenette area was dwarfed now with the five of them.
Sven woke up from his small nap a little more relaxed. Hm, nobody else here yet. Oh well, maybe I should go out to try to find somebody else. Wonder where that Carolina girl went off to? He decided to wander around the dorms for a little bit to see if he could find her or something else to stop his boredom.
Sven didn't find much on the second floor, but one floor up, he noticed a distinctive stench he'd only known once before. Shrewgrass. The centaur's probably around here somewhere, which probably means... Then he swore he heard a girl's yelping and, against his better judgement, followed where he thought it came from. As he got closer, he heard a familiar demon say he was getting hungry while looking intently at Carolina.
"Didn't I say something earlier about talking about my friends like that?"
"I always wondered what it would be like to have powers like that, instead of just passive ones." Dillon said to Nathan, trying to imagine what it would be like to be able to produce fire or frost. "It must be kinda cool."
Dillon was startled by the winged creature's sudden entrance through the window. "Remember to lock that thing in future." he thought to himself angrily, looking around as yet another guy entered the room. "This is getting ridiculous."
Seeing Carolina's obvious dislike of the demon, he could tell they had already met.
"And you two are...?" he asked with a sigh, while looking from the demon to the other man.
Max smiled brightly as Sam appeared in the room. He laughed at the exchange between him and Carolina, chuckling slightly as he made his way over to them.
"Now now Sam, let's not be scaring away our neighbours! We wanna all be freinds, remember?" he said, laughing loudly as he clapped him on the back.
He stretched his arms and let out a loud yawn. Several cracks were heard as he straightened his back. He offered the new guy a weary grin, keeping his eyes dim.
"Well guys, it was nice to meet you, but I feel like sitting the sack. Majorly bushed. Rain check on that coffee though Carolina? That shit smells fantastic."
He laughed as he made his way over to the door. He turned round on the entrance to face them again.
"Oh! Almost forgot. They'll be a party soon enough. I found the best spot from my room. Secluded, huge, the whole works. Spread the word yeah?" he said, winking at them before making his way out the room.
Sam bent down close to Carolina,
"I wonder if this will push dog boy over the edge?", he wispered to her.
He kissed her gentley but loudly on the cheek, before giving her a hug.
"I would love a coffee, but as Max said another time." he said carmly, stepping backwards towards the window keeping Carolina close to his chest.
Carolina just stood there shocked as she was kissed and hugged, her body rigid, confused on what she was supposed to do. She felt her cheeks growing warmer with embarrassment and knew that a pink tinge was rising to them. Bending her head so that her hair somewhat concealed her face, she willed the moment to be done with. She wasn?t good with attention and felt out of place in the center of it. She felt bad for Dillon, because of her their dorm room had been flooded with people since they had arrived.
Sven felt himself shift into the wolfman form, but managed to keep enough of a grip on his anger to avoid lunging at the demonic bastard. Pick your spot. He wants a fight, do it on your own terms. However, he kept one eye on him and the other on the skeleton man. He was half aware the centaur left, but didn't want to get into a fight a.) before classes even started, and b.) with this many people around, both potential enemies and non-combatants.
"Thats right, Stay, good boy." Sam said goading Sven.
Stepping backwards again up onto the windowledge, tail wrapped around Carolina's waist tight.
"Hold On" Sam wispered to her, giveing her a little squeeze with his arms to re-assure her.
He jumped out the window.
Falling a few stories he opened his wings flapping hard, leveling out into a glide. The flight lasted about twenty seconds Sam landed at the lake letting Carolina go.
"Don't worry I'm not going to eat you." He said, "Enjoy the flight?"
if you want me to edit that just ask. Its not CC though technicly. hehe.
Sven watched the demon, waiting for an opportunity to pounce when it taunted him one last time and flew off with Carolina. Figures he'd just fly away. But he won't be able to do that forever. I'll see to that myself, if need be. He turned to go back to his room, but seeing the skeleton man still there, he paused to say something to him before he left.
"I have to ask, Nathan, was it?, what redeeming qualities do you see in that guy? I mean really, give me a reason to not hunt him down and rip his wings off."
Carolina had always had a fear of heights since she could remember. Maybe it was because she lost her first body falling off a building, or that time her father had "fixed" her balcony floor only to fall through. Whatever the case she hated heights and this time was no exception. She felt her stomach lurch as she slammed her eyes shut, a bubble of fear popping inside of her. A small yelp escaped as they fell, and she tightened her grip on Sam until she felt the safety of the ground beneath her feet. "You do that again without my permission I swear I'll rip out you wings bat-boy," she spat, forgetting her chivalry in an instant. "You're lucky I don't do it right now," she added on before turning to head back to the school. Her hands were still shaking as she concentrated on breathing to settle her nerves.
"Hey!" Sam reached for Carolina's arm, "look your down here because your the only one I have seen with human blood. Take this."
Sam took the tube out of his pocket, pushing it into her hand.
"As you have probable noticed I'm a demon, what is in that tube was used to summon me to earth then to turn me into what you see." Sam explained, "I like you, as you might have figured. So I decided to give it to you."
Sam turned towards the school, noticing the sun going down behind the building.
Carolina, confused, looked down at the black marble tube for a moment before opening it carefully, unsure of herself. A small inaudible gasp emitted from her mouth as a blade slid out into her hand. "Why would it matter that I have human blood? What good would it do for you if I had this?" she asked, puzzled. She wanted to ask why here but held her tounge.Delicately, she started to twirl the blade in her hand for a moment before it nicked the palm of her hand slightly. "Ow, shit. Smart move," she said under her breath as she brought her palm up to her hand, sucking the blood off the small cut.
Sam ignited, burning to nothing in a flash. He could feel himself being dragged across planes of existence, see the damned souls in Tartarus and the glorious ones in Elysium. He saw a wispy shape in the gloom, he could feel his entire being surgeing towards it.
The blade grew hot the blood trickling down its edge, it began to glow white before forcing Carolina's arm to become outstreched, the dagger floating about a foot from her hand
Sam appeared again, becomeing first a flamming figure then more solid as the fire dwindled wings spread out his cloths sindged and still on fire in some places.
Burning the area where he stood, he then reached up to his chest and pulled her hand away, the dagger remaining glued to her palm. The hole it left sealing with fire, then back to his normal red flesh.
The hand print still clearly visable, but fadeing from the black to the dagger to the red tone of normality.
"Yeah, so please be careful with it." Sam repaced it in its tube handing it back to Carolina, "human blood because it only works with it, you got it as I can't summon myself now can I?"
