Side note: Anyone who's a fan of Raimi's work would do well to check out Bruce Campbell [http://www.amazon.com/If-Chins-Could-Kill-Confessions/dp/0312242646]. While ostensibly about Campbell himself, the book contains a wealth of information about Raimi, with a particular focus on the years of the Evil Dead era. It's a lot of fun and a must-read for anyone interested in what it's like in the decidedly-unglamorous trenches of the movie industry.
you also forgot Make Love the Bruce Campbell Way [http://www.amazon.com/Make-Love-Bruce-Campbell-Way/dp/031231261X/] which is full of awesome and all Bruce all the time

this movie should be good, i think Sam will do it some justice

I know a whole bunch of WoW nerds will leave their basements to check this out... and I might be among them... but is a Warcraft movie really necessary? Yes, there's a ton of decent lore and quite a few deep & memorable characters, but don't we get most of their stories told through the game? I'm just afraid of this being another botched video game movie.

Then again, it IS Raimi...

Hopefully they'll use the lore up until WC3... You know, when it made sense...
what was hard to understand about WC3? the story of thrall was in a different game so it isn't like warcraft 3 was completely out of left field.
What? I meant up until as in stopping with warcraft 3, and not using any of the mutilated story from WOW.

Elaborate, please. I'm curious as to how you think the story has been mutilated.

Exactly what I thought. I like Sam Raimi's stuff but I just get the feeling it will either be a mess of references to a game I've never played and thus feel left out. Or another generic fantasy film. It's just such an odd license for a story.

Ha! and me thinking hollywood cared about plot and well rounded characters. (I'm sure they'll be well rounded physically)

If this ends up being something tied to WoW and totally skipping out on the 3 games(not counting expansions) that came before then I will start burning down every movie theater I see that's playing it.

Okay. I can live with that.

I really would like to see what Uwe Boll would have done with it, strictly for teh lulz, but this'll do.

The blood elves joined the horde, as did the Undead, they killed Illidan and took away the massive battle in place of some capture the flag matches. The night elves for some reason joined the industrialist humans and Dwarves, who seem bent on destroying nature, which doesn't seem to bother the night elves anymore. Also, there are Gnome Death Knights, GNOME DEATH KNIGHTS. You tell me the lore isn't mutilated.

Ehh I hate to be a downer, but warcraft lore is too far seeded into nerdem to make anything better than a children's quality movie at best. I've played through the entire warcraft series, and played WoW for 2 years, but I'm pretty sure even I would be embarrassed to admit to people that I was going to see this movie. The names of the characters alone are embarrssing to pronounce. But who knows, maybe this will be the next LOTR.

So very very true.

OT: Very excited about this, given that Blizz will have a hand in this, they're quality control nutjobs, they'll see it done right.

Well, atleast they tied a high-profile director to a game-to-movie adeptation.
It'd be great if it was like, World of Evil Dead Warcraft.

Don't forget about the Dranei. I mean... holy shit wtf happened there? It was like a sci-fi convention suddenly took over WoW for an expansion. I know that the orcs were originally aliens, but at least they were able to tie that into a fantasy plot with magic and portals and whatnot, no crystal powered spaceships flying around.

The blood elves joined the horde, as did the Undead
Necessity. It was either that or have a Lordaeron-Alliance style dealy containing only the Forsaken and Blood Elves. On a continent which is primarily filled with the Alliance (The numbers of Stormwind alone outnumber the entirety of the Horde) - Without Thrall to keep Varian off the Undercity, Sylvanas would quickly lose her one and only real stronghold.

they killed Illidan
They killed Uther in Warcraft 3. Is that murdering the lore too?

massive battle in place of some capture the flag matches
Gameplay =/= Lore. The sooner you realise that the better.

The night elves for some reason joined the industrialist humans and Dwarves
Mostly due to the Alliance during the Battle at Mount Hyjal more than anything else and once again, necessity. The Night Elves are outnumbered and outgunned by the Orcs, Taurens and Trolls. Alone, they wouldn't really have a great chance.

which doesn't seem to bother the night elves anymore.
Go do some Night Elf/Draenei quests in Forest Song, Ashenvale. Also, the entire premise of Warsong Gulch is protecting the forest and nature.

Also, there are Gnome Death Knights, GNOME DEATH KNIGHTS
Third Generation Death Knights. It's...really quite simple. If you go make yourself a new fresh Death Knight and watch Instructor Razuvious operate at the very start you see the logic behind the choices.

They're just incredibly strong warriors (not the class, but rather they're proficient in combat) who have the personality and corruptability to fight for the Lich King. I'm not exactly seeing the problem with Gnome Death Knights. Generally people pick the "holy/hippie" races like Draenei, Night Elf or Tauren when they complain, but feel free to mention those if you want, the answer is still the same.

You tell me the lore isn't mutilated.
With the exception of a) the case of super Deus Ex Machina which is the Naaru being implimented and b) the Sargeras retcon, then no. The Lore is not mutilated.

"We will not sell the movie rights, not to you...especially not to you." - Blizzard

Just in case you missed that.
Holy crap, I just read that.
Uwe Boll said:
"To be honest, the real gamers are the typical download guys, right?" Boll reasoned. "They don't pay anything for movies, because they illegally download the movies. So why [should I] please these guys? I need the normal audience."
What a fantastically reasonable statement made by Mr. Boll.
I must change my piracy right this minute and pay for every one of his films in support of this statement.

That is hilariously insulting to any fans he did have that where gamers, I'm sure he'll be hearing from both of them very soon.
