Imagine that you are told that some sort of cataclysmic event that will wipe out the majority of the human race (nuclear war, zombie apocalypse, a giant asteroid hitting the Earth, whatever you might imagine) will happen in approximately an hour. After that, you are invited to a survivor's colony (located underground, underwater, in the sky, or wherever you like) that will be safe from the event. After packing up all of the basic essentials and sentimental items you need, you have time to pack exactly one DVD (box sets are allowed), one book, one CD (does not need to be music), and one game (collections, such as The Orange Box, and expansions are allowed)- assume that the survivor's colony will have DVD players, CD players, game consoles, etc. My question to you is, what would you bring? Keep in mind that you are also saving part of human culture as well, so try to pick something that would be useful to future generations (unless your a completely selfish bastard).

I think I would bring:
DVD: Star Wars original trilogy box set
Book: The Holy Bible (if only to stop religious nuts from making things up and saying that they were in the Bible)
CD: One of my Eddie Izzard CDs- because the new world needs comedy and transvestites
Game: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time- because its my favorite game of all time

yeah I have to agree with the DVD (tho I'd try to grab both trilogies if it were one box set) and Book choices
but idk about the CD and Game really. CDs get old fast, but as for the game...something awesome and something lengthy if online gaming is gone =/

DVD: If there's a FLCL Boxset, I'll take that.
Book: Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei Volume 1.
CD: I've got a playlist on my iTunes that's "Songs to do things to," so I'd burn that.
Game: Garry's Mod. So goddamned much to do.

Book: Shitshitshit...uhm...definitely not The Bible. I'd rather take something that didn't suck. Uh...The Name of the Wind, I suppose. I do love it.
No wonder we have so many flame wars about religion with comments like these...

Anyways...

DVD: Thank You For Smoking
Book: Probably something by Lovecraft. I can't decide though.
CD: Boston, Boston
Game: Baldur's Gate II

DVD: Girl Next Door
Book: either Hitchhiker's Guide or the Principia Discordia. It's a tough call. Probably the latter banking on someone else bringing the Guide.
CD: try to fit all of my music onto on DVD
Game: KotoR I&II

I doubt you could do that within the time limit =P
I guess you are right... just my luck. I'll never get to play it. :(

As many friends and relatives as I could, my photo collection, a plentiful supply of food and clean water plus a water filtration system, and a rad suit. Plus plenty of games and old books and magazines to keep people occupied, and some educational books to give children something to learn from during the dark era. I think ahead for my catastrophes.

Choosing from the list, I'd go for

DVD: Dark angel series.
Book: Hard pick. I'd go for a terry prachett novel. Something to lighten the mood.
CD: An Avril Lavigne album, to remind me of more simple, cheerful times.
Game: Something that doesn't get old and isn't too heavy on storyline. Streets of Rage 2 would be good. The obvious choice would be SEGA mega collection.

I'm not trying to sound like a jerk, but please play by the rules. The reason is that I don't want this thread to degenerate into people posting random lists of supplies all willy nilly- this is not neccesarily a "what would you do in a disaster" thread; it is more like a "if you had to preserve one item of different forms of culture, what would you pick?" thread. The scenario I made just makes this thread more fun and puts things into an established continuity.

DVD: My Super Dimension Fortress Macross (Robotech The Macross Saga pre Anglo-Saxonization) box set.

Book: My Lord of the Rings Colletion w/ The Hobbit

CD: Metallica's Black Album

Game: Age of Empires 3 plus expansions, not because they are my favorite games, but because they would keep me occupied for a long time.

Happy now?

Edit: It's like making me pick between my non-existent children.

Well assumed if box sets for movies counted then trilogies of games and squeals counted as well, which was a fair assumption imo. Since I have to choose I would choose KotoR I. To be fair I do in fact have over half of my CD collection in MP3 form on one DVD (with room to spare). The CD I choose is therefore Rubber Factory by The Black Keys

DVD: Probably one of my x-files DVD?s, the first season preferably with ?squeeze? and ?deep throat? on it.
Book: Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. My all time favorite.
CD: Discography by Abney Park. :D
Game: Oblivion, probably, because I would want to be able to play it again and again with different classes, races, etc.

DVD: Citizen Kane. It turns up nr. 1 on many 'best movies' lists for a reason.
Book: The Origin of Species by Darwin. Or maybe a medical encyclopedia. If anything, that'll be a lot more useful than most other books.
CD: Pink Floyd - The Piper at the Gates of Dawn. IMO the finest album by a legendary band.
Game: I'm going with Okami as well.
