What the heck were you drinking, you are linking game content to fan-fiction where everyone eventually ends up in tentacle rape.

The game stories are simple and silly for every kid to understand, they do not in any way imply sexual compensation.
Fan-fiction however only ever implies sex in one form or several... at once.

Given the setting of the game this may or may not be true.

You are speaking from the perspective of a person living in the 21st century , modern morals and all. In their world it may be perfectly normal to ravish and/or marry a princes after you save her.
For some works I can understand that yes, but I am talking about the Mario and Zelda series. Even though their technology and settings fluctuate, from my understanding they tend to follow modern morals.
Seriously? There isn't much discussion value in those two imo. Nobody expects to see anything sexual in a nintendo game for real.
Mario and Peach are kinda a couple anyway so who is to say that he isn't getting some after the credits and Link as a hero who has saved the world is a really good political choice for a husband and given the setting I really doubt that Zelda would have a say in it.

No, I wasn't trying to talk about fan-fiction. I was talking about how people take it seriously that Peach and Zelda don't sexually compensate Mario and Link for rescuing them over and over.

I'm pretty sure we are supposed to digest all of these adventures as a childish fantasy. Link only saves Zelda because he is the valiant knight who will help anyone in distress, not because he wants to bed Zelda.
Pretty much this. Except for Zelda II, I never got the impression that Link was doing any it for any other reason than because he's the hero and it's what heroes do. Esp. in the later Zelda games where Zelda didn't even become directly part of the objective until late in the game.

Huh? Oh yes, that. Yeah that irritates me too. Since when was a sexual reward standard for a woman being saved???

If someone rescued me that I wasn't involved with and then wanted to marry me because of the effort it took I would kind of point out to them that would just be another way of 'being a prisoner'.

I don't see how people don't understand that...

I like bad boys anyway much to my detriment so I would probably already be shagging the evil wizard or whoever at that point.

I mean the dude has a scary castle and can do magic?

The hero will probably a paladin and be lawful good. Ugh.

and I just reminded myself of Anomen... great.

Because for some reason it just seems wierd to see the hero demand money or a kings ransom for saving the princess, having them be lovers is much more romantic.

More interesting question: why bother making the heroine a progressive, proactive ass kicker if she still gets inevitably kidnapped and in need of rescuing anyway? Are they just selectively competant?

The only decent version of this was in Star Wars where the princess only became a badass the second they try to rescue her (and she basically ends up rescuing them).

Well, actually, I think it's because Mario & Link saved the princesses SO MANY times, that the rewards that they recieve at the end of it are pretty meager.

Besides, if you saw Do The Mario(again) on The Big Picture, you'll realise that Mario fell in love with her, and that he wanted to marry her regardless wether or not she would marry him as a reward.

I mean, at the most, all Mario got from Princess Peach was a Cake, and yeah, I would imagine that he would be pissed off.

I don't hold a strong opinion on this because Mario and Link could just be naturally good natured and selfless.

BTW: I think the only times Link and Zelda have ever been an explicit couple are in Link's Awakening (It's slightly implied), and Oracle of Seasons/Ages (She gives him a kiss at the end).

Tough luck that your father , the king , decided that he would rather give his daughters hand in marriage to the brave young knight than have her shagging the evil wizard.

Link may not be able to take it for granted, but it is pretty damn deserved after all he's been through.

I never understood that either. But the thing is, that sometimes despite them being competent they are going to get into trouble at some point. If it happens every five seconds, then yeah, I'm raising a few eyebrows.

Fans fantasizing about the appropriate compensation for their effort... I would call that fan fiction, and I don't think anyone outside japan takes that shit serious.

If he wants my hand he can have it. Chainsaws are more useful anyway. Right Ash?

Right.

Well, to me fan-fiction isn't fan-fiction unless it's published, but I can understand.

Well , if you had that in the first place you wouldn't need the rescuing , now would you ? You better get one right now , just to be on the safe side.

Haha, that would make for an interesting game. The princess who has to defend her beloved Dark lord of Darkness from the Paladin and his minions of the Light. Tower Defense-style.

Someone, go create it!
