was just about to mention the broodmother rhyme. Also in SH3 when you see the mirror near the end, and in the mirror everything gets covered by black tendrils. I sat and watched cos I was so confused, and if you've ever just sat and watched it you'll know why you shouldn't.

Things that scared me:

FEAR: The entirety of FEAR, but specifically the scene, I think in the 2nd or 3rd level, you're crawling through an air duct or somesuch, the lights go out, and then flicker on to show the ***** spider crawling her way at you. I unloaded an entire auto-shotty clip at nothing, exited game, uninstalled, and have never played it since.

DA:O: This is more creepy, not scary. The area during the dwarf mission with the corrupted dwarf sings that reeeeally creepy song as you move through the area.

AvP: For the longest time I could never play Marine or Predator. But then I got the latest one, and while I was nervous at first, I realized the Aliens do a lot of flourish and cinematic poses before they attack you. And as a Predator, I can mess them up big time in melee, so the fear was taken out of it.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: The first fight with that mutant in the tunnels(where he throws psionic waves at you or something) was more cool than scary. But then I progressed further into the game and got to the point where ghosts were coming out of the ground and attacking me. Then I started getting shot at, so I couldn't concentrate on dealing with the ghosts. That's when I stopped playing.

Zelda Ocarina of Time: When I was little, any time there was a part involving zombies I had to mute the TV and I would listen to Will Smith's "Miami" on repeat for the entire part.

Has anyone mentioned the time when Pyramid Head rapes a monster? Seriously, most fucked up moment in a game that I've played.

The reports after you finish shooting in JFK Reloaded.

In the background, you hear secret service people talking on a radio asking for a chopper or an ambulance, and explaining who got injured/killed, and the game systematically shows you exactly where your bullets went, showing you the trajectory, and letting you know where the entry/exit wounds were. It isolates the damage you caused with each bullet, and it hits home that you just lived an important and tragic moment of history from the other side.

It might just be me, but I found the "We Don't Go To Ravenholm . . . . " sequence in Half-Life 2 scary when you weren't fighting zombies as opposed when you were.

Alot of people said ravenholm, I didnt find that even remotly spooky :/

What creeped me out more was those big, almost undefeatable spikey bastards in Resident Evil 4, the slow walking ones that moan and follow you everywhere, you run away from them because they are too difficult to kill only to hear them not far behind as you do something dragging thier feet towards you and jerking erratically. They creeped me out because you knew that a direct encounter with them could mean instant death :/

It's been said a few times, but any given segment from Amnesia gives me the heebie jeebies. I recall two moments particularly well:

The first occured when I had to find the antidote for the poisonous fungus. After doing the slightly upsetting sequence where you have to drill into a cadaver's skull to get at the aforementioned medicine, then inject it into yourself, I glanced up at the door in time to see the thing explode into splinters and standing there is a grotesque monster with a sodding great machete for a hand and a horrible gaping wound where it's face should be. It was the first time I had honestly squealed in abject terror from any form of media, either game book or film.

The second occasion was much simpler but all the more terrifying through it's immediacy. This was towards the end of the game, and I was creeping through a large cavernous hall full of pillars. Suddenly the music started to turn to that horrible metal scraping sound they use when a monster has spotted you. I started frantically looking around and didn't see anything so I hedged my bets and just legged it forward. I sprint headlong into it's welcoming arms and I nearly wet myself. Goddamn
I remember that first seen you were talking about. My brother and his friends were playing and it. All throughout the process they were laughing and saying "Oh god! What the hell are we doing?!". By the time we were over we were in a mixture of confusion and hysteria. It was very funny and also very wierd.

the Resi Evil 4 regenerators for me

you hear that horrific breathing from an unknown place and you just freeze in panic
*shudder*

and in that same game theres a point where a ganadote (if thats what they're called) jumps out from an oven on fire and tears your face off while you're just wandering through an empty room minding your own business
made me shit my pants

The general atmosphere for pretty much every Silent Hill game. I stopped playing the third one at one point because it unnerved me so much.

The Asylum scene in Indigo Prophecy. I could not play that one.

The whole game can be freaking terrifying, but that one scene in particular was amazingly scary.
Not only that but the fact she was claustrophobic made it even worse. I successfully did it in one go surprisingly but still, scary as hell when you see them walk past you.

It's made me a little obsessed with Scarecrow, like, I really loved Heath Ledger's portrayal of The Joker in TDK (I know, how original am I) But never actaully watched batman begins, had no idea scarecrow was even in it, I'm a bit of a batman noob, but, I absolutely loved the scenes with scarecrow. When you played it, did you go into a room (for the first dream) and have scarecrows voice keep saying "get out" just getting louder and louder until he was like screaming, then go back through the same door you came in from and then have the bodybag scene?
I epically shat my pants at that part. but my most unnerving sequences were in condemned but the one that sticks in my mind is in the mall when you start to get surronded by mannequins (freaked out by them anyway) was my first play through so had no idea what I was doing and all these mannequins are surronding me. unnerved me so much I actually paused the game and left the room for a bit.
