I actually got through Ravenholm when I was like 12 years old, it didn't really scare me. The ladder sequence in FEAR basically made me never touch that game again, although that was probably the scariest thing in the entire game from what I've heard, so maybe I shouldn't have stopped playing.

There's always something about water that seems to creep me out though. When I was a kid I used to be really scared of Unagi the eel in SM64, as well as the fish that would eat Mario in the Tiny-huge island level. Same thing goes for the mission in Noki bay in Super Mario Sunshine where you have to clean the huge seamonsters teeth, I saw those eyes and was too afraid to go down there for months basically. Which is ironic seeing as I was quite a bit older playing Sunshine than I was playing SM64. To this day I hate going into a body of water in any videogame, especially if I have to dive.

WHAT THE HELL! HOW CAN YOU OPEN DOORS! FUCK YOU JEFF GOLDBLUM! FUCK YOU MR PILKINGTON!
You sir and/or madame, are made of win and awesome for referencing Mr. Pilkington.

OT: As far as unnerving sequences go, I just tried my hand at Deadly Premonition the other day.

Pretty damn freaky, and it's even worse knowing that there are creepy twins, apparitions saying "Kill Me" in distorted deep voices and reading your future in coffee.

The second level of Vampire the Masquerade. Where you've got to go through that mansion. Holy fuckin shit. Here I was playing a nice fun vampire game and then you go and spoil it by making my bowels empty themselves all over the floor. On my second play through I had to turn the sound off and put my own music on.

Several Different moments in the Condemned games. They are possibly the only games to really unnerve me.

Ravenholm. Screw the brave souls saying they weren't scared, I was on edge the whole time. It was really damn creepy and it felt like hell.

If there's one thing that really encapsulated the creepiness of Ravenholm for me, it was near the beginning. I was in this firelit alley, trying to work out how to progress onto the next bit. I was alone, there was no Grigori or zombies.

And in the background, there were these... noises... Praise be to the God-Emperor, I will never forget those noises. They were terrifying. I can just imagine a person living in Ravenholm, safe in a hidden house or something, listening as the usual background noises of the mining town become that keening, that howling...

*shudder*

The most unsettling game moment for me would have to be the bit near the end of MGS2 where Campbell and the Soliton Radar goes nuts.

The following is a transcript of my thoughts while playing the demo for Amnesia: the Dark Descent.

"La-da-dee, la-da-da, going into the castle refinery, turning the corner and--Oh, wow it's dark in here and this is kind of tense I guess and oh hey the lights are on but why is there water everywhere and you know I think I should get on this crate and what's that splashing sound oh something's coming around the corner and where is it I can't see it is it those footprints there and...oh. Shit. It's staring right at me, isn't it.

...You know, I think I've played enough for now."

The runner-up awards go to the bloodsucker lair/the vampire's shack in Call of Pripyat and the attic scene from Thief: Deadly Shadows. You know which one I mean.

In Fable 2, when you open one of the demon doors you take a walk down a nice snowy path, see a really comfy looking hut... the moment you walk into it, there's a loud SWOOSH noise and everything is suddenly twisted, dead and burned. There are also those weird cages with skeletons hanging out of them along the way out of the door.

I hate that part.
I wouldn't say this was the scariest, but it definitely freaked me out. It's just so . . . unexpected. Very well done by Lionhead.

Silent Hill 3, when Heather gets trapped in a room in the Hospital area. There´s a huge mirror in one of the walls but nothing else.
I try to exit the room.
Door´s locked.
I try to find some kind of secret path out of the room; that´s when i look at the mirror and i realise Heather´s reflection is standing still, even though the character is moving.
Suddenly the reflection starts to bleed from its ears, nose and mouth.
Then the walls start to bleed in the entire room.
Heathers life is draining!
I desperatly try the door again...it opens.

Fucking Konami, they scared the shit outta me...that scene was tense!!

The Regenerators in Resident Evil 4.

"Ha ha, I blew off his legs AND his head, so I bet he's completely harmless for a while. I'll just go past him and... HOLY SHIT, HE FUCKING POUNCED ME AND IS CHEWING MY NECK OFF!!!"

The most unsettling time for me, was during GT5 and a 'famous' nascar driver gave me a run down on nascar. His face and lip sync was so fucked up, it must of been located at the pit of the uncanny valley.

There's a level in Condemned 2 which has very little combat and pretty much abandons you in a hospital that a second ago was full of people but becomes immediately desolate after an x-ray scan. All you see after are glimpses of shuffling black shadows roaming the corridors and hallucinations. Condemned 2 is a flawed game but that level was very disorientating and very terrifying.

When the statues start moving in Fort Frolic in Bioshock. That's really unnerving, since you can't tell if they're moving or not at first. They seem to teleport when your back is turned. Speaking of teleporting mannequins, how about the Christmas-themed mall level in Condemned?
