A cinematic instead of a playable sequence, but near the end of the original Silent Hill when the game starts losing it's tenuous grip on reality and the nurse Lisa starts spazzing the fuck out and bleeding from every pore. Even though I was 15 at the time, that sequence scared the shit out of me. Still one of my favorite FMVs in a video game, even if it looks dated and not-scary by today's standards.

Practically all of Silent Hill 2, and also Dead Space. That game may not have been scary, but it certainly was unnerving, featuring some sequences I can't get out of my head.

Let's pull out a fun little mind-fork called The White Chamber.

Indie game by a group who's gone their seperate ways by now called Studio Trophis. Starts out with you in a coffin, goes downhill from there.

I swear, that corridor still creeps me out. You'll know if you play (or have played) the game

For me it would have to be, hands down, in Fallout 3 in Point Lookout when you get exposed to the fruit spores. You start tripping BALLS.

I just finished playing batman:AA, and really loved the Scarecrow fear gas sequences, they weren't necessarily scary, but at the very least unsettling, I was wondering what scene really stuck in your head, even if you cant put your finger on why
They fake the game messing up, it had just happened to me the other day and I got so pissed, then the game did something I didn't expect with the joker being the driver and blah blah blah, I didn't know if I should of cried from relief or if I had lost my freaken mind. Ravenholm in HL2 and Fear would be the only games I think I was unnerved

The only recent one I can think of is encountering The Darkness when you first reach Aurora in Fable III.

Other than that, the first time you transition into the Otherworld in the old Silent Hill games is always memorable for this very reason.

The ending sequence to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow Of Chernobyl... where your in the destroyed power plant filled with Monolith members, high radiation and that voice droning in your ear as you walk through the dimly lit Monolith filled corridors...<.<

That has, to this very day, disturbed the hell out of me. Bravo, Silent Hill, you just rocked my f*cking world.

I remember playing Unreal I or II or whatever, I don't know in what game this was anymore but if anyone does, feel free to correct me.
The part at the beginning where you are chasing down the skaarj, but all you see is bodies and blood on the walls. At one part, a gate doesn't open completely, so you can't go through yet, and you hear the screams of the men being slaughtered inside. Doesn't look creepy now, but it sure had an effect on me back then (was about 8-9).

First berserker in GoW1... Intense...

Metro 2033 all of the Visions, random Ghost and Dark One sightings and the... *shudders* Librarians....

And finally 343 Guilty Spark. You have to admit for a shooter the amount of tension they built up and then when you get locked in... Played though it recently with a pair of turtle beaches and DAMN the ambient sound makes it so much worse!

Drakengard's giant flying cannibal babies really got me. Oh and the clown falling on his mini chainsaws and laughing in Dead Rising. Oh god, that laugh...

The following is a transcript of my thoughts while playing the demo for Amnesia: the Dark Descent.

"La-da-dee, la-da-da, going into the castle refinery, turning the corner and--Oh, wow it's dark in here and this is kind of tense I guess and oh hey the lights are on but why is there water everywhere and you know I think I should get on this crate and what's that splashing sound oh something's coming around the corner and where is it I can't see it is it those footprints there and...oh. Shit. It's staring right at me, isn't it.
This, mainly because I have an intense fear of "water monsters". Then when it chases you and you have to run away......

That game is just full of brick shitting opportunities.

The mannequin parts of Condemned. They don't jump out at you, they just appear in neat rows behind and in front of you after a flash of light and they stare with their lifeless faces. :(

Also the bear chase sequence in Condemned 2 had me shitting myself and the bit in the magic theater when the lights go out and there are big rings of fire spinning about around you and flashing on and off and black gooey things are appearing out of the ground trying to kill you.
Also in Condemned 2, being chased by the big metal thing on the boat level was scary. And one of the last levels where you're going through corridors and there are skinless people all tied up and hanging upside don from the ceiling making ear piercingly terrifying screams.
Or the bit near the start of Condemned 2 when you folly Vanhorn and see black tar coming out of his eyes and you go through a room covered in tar r goo or whatever and little black gooey people jump out of giant sacks from the ceiling.

Almost forgot the doll factory where the little babies crawl up to you and explode. I know they're dolls but they look so much like actual babies it just creeps me out.

Almost forgot about the scene in the bowling alley level when you see all the torture devices. It didn't so much scare me but it un nerved em and disturbed me. I think I've actually repressed that memory since I had to be reminded about it yet I could remember all those others off the top of my head.
<3 Condemned.

Is it wierd that I love being scared by games, but I hate watching scary films? Anyway, the entire playthrough of System Shock 2 is just creepy. Constantly creepy.

But the winner is the god damned Mannequin section from Condemned. I hate Mannequins...I HATE MANNEQUINS!!
