If I said Skyrim would I get lynched? Ok I know its not even meant to be in the genre you're all discussing but its pretty creepy when my mannequin is idling in the middle of the room. If a single smartass modder were to sneak in making them move after I put something on it I would probably flip in my chair.
Haha I can relate to that. I've still to see a house mod where the mannequins aren't bugged to shit. Every time I walk into Castle Grey the two mannequins in the hall are wandering about and as soon as I see them they snap in place at either side of the hall.

What sinister things could they be plotting while I am gone!?

SCP-87-B nearly made me crap myself. The game is about 15 minutes long yet it took me about 2 and a half hours to actually beat. Now that I know about SCP-Containment Breach I'm even more scared, especially since its by the same guy o.o

I would say overall I was scared more by Silent Hill 4 : The room than 2 and 3 combined.

Vampire the masquerade has several good jolts in it too, but its not a game trying to scare you. It just inadvertently does at times.

LOL people find Silent Hill 2 scary?
That game was mildly creepy at best.
Most of the time it was just frustrating.

OT: Siren Blood Curse.
Oh God, that game.

OT: Penumbra made me yelp, Amnesia made me pause repeatedly, Silent Hill 3 made my skin crawl, Fatal Frame made me afraid to move my character, The Path made me afraid to look around my computer room, and Myst III featured Brad Dourif.

Myst III wins.
His acting was pretty frightening. (Not really sure why the fans seem to like him so much; his "NO! NO NO NO NO NO!" scene just made me cringe. Gehn is a way better villain.)

OT: I'd have to say Silent Hill 2, 3, and 4. I played SH1 long after the PS1 era had ended, so the blocky graphics unfortunately didn't do anything for me. I'd imagine it would be the same if I tried playing Clocktower.

Riven was actually pretty scary too. It's so eerie and empty, and the whole time you're playing you feel like someone is watching you. (He is.)

Also, I own Amnesia but I'm too scared to play it. If it's as scary as everyone says it is, I'm sure it would end up on this list too.

I actually thought Dead Space one and two were pretty creepy, even though it was hardly a survival/horror game in the end.
When dead space 1 and 2 were being more subtle they actually got a bit creepy, I cant really remember any parts in 1 that were but there was one part in 2 that was done really well and was almost scary (keep in mind Ive gotten to the point where Im really hard to scare with most techniques since I have a tendency to look under the game mechanics and see what the devs had in mind so I know when I cant be killed) anyway, the part in 2 that was
when you go back to the Ishimura and you see all the hall ways covered in plastic wrap and you get the audiologs of that dude who got knocked out and woke up there as he wanders around and gets lost in the ship but can hear stuff moving under the plastic sometimes
it was really well done and the fact that you can go like more then 5 min without a monster jumping out yelling boogyboogy actually makes it a bit tense.

That is actually why I didn't like silent hill 2 much, after the mind fuck that the first one was, I didn't find it scary at all so I missed most of the plot since I kept thinking how much more i liked the first one.

Condemned 1 was extremely scary. Condemned 2 didn't for some reason. I still hope that I'll see a Condemned 3 although that is probably a dream.

It made me cringe at first, but if you take it at face value, it suddenly gets really chilling.

The kid that I was at the time appreciated a villain who threatened to club me to death over the subtle "I hate you and everything you're connected with" villain, which is why I just prefer Saavedro. It's also nice that Myst III could have a happy ending for everyone involved.

Plus, well, there's his freakouts on the viewscreens. I nearly cried.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent, the atmosphere, the darkness, how defenseless you are, the monsters, the noise they make when they see you, how when the monster is gone from the immediate area you're pretty sure they have left the area but deep down in your mind you KNOW they are around the corner somewhere, etc

I agree with you there, the only thing that stopped Dead Space from being a truly terrific game was the constant flow of enemies popping out from vents in the wall. It got to a point where I could pretty much guess where they were going to come from, which kind of defeats the purpose and ruins the atmosphere of the whole thing. But Dead Space 2 sure was a pretty game thats for sure.
And when you walk through the cryo-bay in Dead Space 2, the first boogley that jumped out from one of the tubes from the wall was scary as the location had made me feel so tense.

AvP2. Marine campaign. That fucking motion tracker

Yeah I found that pretty scary too. But for some reason, the same campaign and motion tracker in AvP from 2010 was not scary at all.
I think there's two reasons it wasn't as scary:
1: The motion tracker marks X's for friendlies and didn't note pieces of the land that were moving or small game that could freak you the hell out like those giant beetles did. There was no suspense for that dot, it's an X, it's an ally.
2: AVP2 took away your weapons. In AVP3, you have to find them. Your starting gun, the pistol, is used much more than your pulse rifle for the first parts, as it's the best weapon to use, as ammo never runs out. When you had only the pistol in AVP2, you felt naked. When you had it alone in AVP3, as soon as you learned to use it, fear didn't play into it.

OT: I don't know, I'm not a big horror game fan, so I'm going to go with AVP 2 as well.

So many eggs... They were in the lake mommy. You said the lake was safe mommy! You said it was safe!!
