Why do I have to have such realistic feeling dreams? I mean, it's good when they're nice dreams but it just makes the bad ones more horrid >.>
At least you have dreams that you remember. The only time I remember having a realistic dream was a few months ago. I had a dream that I had joined the army and was in basic training (no clue why). It was nice because this is my first year out of high school, so back then (and more than a bit now) I didn't know what I wanted from my life, so it felt like I had a purpose, and I was really happy. I actually remember thinking "This is too real to be a dream" then I woke up. It was horrible waking up because it felt like I had lost an entire life, one of those "This is the life I could have had" except I actually lived it for a moment, so when I lost it, I actually felt like I had lost something.

It took a full 30 seconds before I was completely back in my own head-space again, realising that none of that had ever happened.

But yeah, the only realistic dream I've had was so nice that when I woke up I felt like I'd lost a very dear friend. If I think about it enough I can still remember how it felt.

EDIT: OT: That's my most disturbing dream, my most disturbing nightmare would probably be one where I was trapped in a house with some other people in a suburban estate-thing, and outside were these weird things from Magician, where their touch steals your soul.

I was following this random guy down a dark street, all made of cobblestone like 19th century Britain. He was wearing a dark over coat and a short top hat. There was something udoubtedly sinister about him.He reminded me of the Spiv from medieval.Anyway, he turns down a dark alleyway, so I follow him.He rounds a corner, which I go around. Then, his arm flashed ou, and his knike slashes open my throat.I could feel my blood pouring down my chest,a warm, sticky torrent. And then I fell to the ground holding my gaping hole of a throat, and darkness swirls around my vision till I could see no more, and he laughs, deep, wicked, evil laughter.

Or the dream I had when I was 7, and the world was flooding and everyone was getting eaten by sharks.

I don't get scared by monsters or boogie men, what scares the shit out of me in my dreams is crazy ass people.

The scariest dream I ever had involved a bunch of Football hooligan/Fallout 3 raider type people chasing me into an abandoned hospital, they were clearly trying to kill me, they kept yelling "We're gonna fuck ya before we eat you!" Which I believe I heard from the bandits in Borderlands.

The scariest part of the dream was when they stopped yelling, I kept expecting them to be right around the corner, but they never showed up, I became very paranoid and scared, when I woke up I didn't sleep for another 2 days.

The second scariest dream I ever had I was strapped naked onto an operating table, above me was an operating light, but the rest of the room or area we were in was completley black, I can hear someone just outside the light pacing around, then he starts singing Frank Sinatra's "I've got you under my skin" but without the music and with a very scary ass, monotone, serial killer voice. I kept struggling against my bonds but they were too secure, after the song is over I hear him say "Relax we'll be together soon," Then I go under like i was being anestesized.

Funny you should ask because 2 nights ago I had the most disturbing. Dream. Ever!
All of my sisters were masturbating, but that's not the bad part. THEY HAD PENISES! They told me that when a girl turns 13 she grows a penis! Then I woke up, using all my willpower not to yell "NOOOOOOOOO"!!!!!!!
Yes this is a true story.

What's the scariest or most disturbing dream you've had?

One time I was dreaming that I was laying in my bed with my eyes closed (but I didn't know I was dreaming) and I heard the footsteps of someone casually walking up to my bed. I didn't think anything of it, but then it walked up along side of me, leaned down and gave the most demonic and terrifying scream you could ever imagine! Scared the crap out of me and I had audio hallucinations for a few minutes! O_e

I've had one that was much worse than that ... but I don't like to talk about THAT one. :-(

What's your scary dream?
Two of the come to mind one when I was say 5 or 6 and it was very similair with the dream you described, but instead of someone walking to my bed I saw the head of a witch floating in an upper corner of my room laughing and just being creepy. The scarry part was how realistic it was, and I would sooner call it an halucination then a dream.
The second is scarier, I was 16 or so and I had mastered the art of waking myself during my dreams (That's a neat skill trust me, especially if you have nightmares). I dreamt I was in an elevator with a fence instead of an actual door. The elevator got stuck between two floors and I could see the higher floor. I saw a dimly lighted long hallway going leading up to the elevator. At the other end of the hallway I saw a dark figure with a knife. He (in my dream I knew it was a male) saw me and started to slowly walk towards me. I decided to wake up, and I did so. Then I went back to sleep only to find myself back in the elevator again with the figure still walking towards me, but now he was closer!. I woke up again, and went a sleep again, the figure was again closer. This repeated itself several times until I decided not to go back to sleep again for that night.

One of my earliest memories is a bad dream that's stayed with me - considering where we were living, I must have been a bit less than 2 yrs old, so extremely limited life experience.

In my dream, the phone had rung (this was around 1980 so big ol' green bakelite phone) and I answered it (like little kids do). My mum came over and took the phone from me. When she finished talking, she'd put the phone down, but not actually on the receiver - just next to the phone.

I know this was my young mind trying to work out reasons why we do things (parents would have said 'put the phone back on the receiver properly' but never would have explained the concepts of phones and you need to hang up to receive more calls); and I was curious in the dream, so I'd walked up to the phone and listened.

I could hear the hiss of static on the other end, and slight murmurs of talking (like on a bad tv channel). This for some reason was very upsetting to me and I backed away from the phone; at which point little people started climbing out of the handset - little 2-dimensional STATIC PEOPLE, hissing and blizzarding angrily. They jumped down off the wall unit the phone was on. I ran as fast as my little toddler legs could carry me into my bedroom and jumped onto my bed screaming. I could hear the static getting closer and closer to me, but I couldn't turn around because of fear.

And then I woke up.

Also, I remember a dream about a giant poo snake coming out of the toilet. Now that shit was scary! (lol)

I was being chased round an abandoned manor house by an old lady with a voice sythesiser. She was in an electric wheelchair with machine guns on it. I hid behind a bed and she said 'i know your here' in the robo voice. I was 12, it scared me really bad at the time.

(Takes a while to get creepy/scary)

So I was part of an international secret-crime fighting group (headed by Ian Mckellen for some reason), that was currently fighting against an international secret evil group that was attempting to find the world's most evil killers. Without the public's knowledge, these killers were hidden inside secret chambers located in buildings throughout the world. My (rather large, maybe 15 person) team was ordered to gather 4 killers that were hidden inside a public library (this was my first mission, if I remember correctly). As we entered the library, a team from the evil group started shooting at us so we hurried inside. Once in, we split up to unlock the chambers and capture each prisoner. The prisoner I was order to capture with two other men had killed 20 or so people by the age of 6. The two men with me opened the chamber as I covered them. This small, box-shaped chamber was lined by white tiles, and had lights running along the top. In the center, the killer was suspended in mid-air by 4 chains going from his arms and legs to the walls. The killer's was almost all completely burnt or rotten, he had a iron plate nailed into his head that covered his arms, and several pieces of metal were impaled in him, sticking out of his body. As my two colleagues unchained him, he ripped a piece of metal out of his arm and stabbed both of them to death while I ran and hid. The last thing I remember in the dream is hiding in a corner and crying as everyone around me being killed...

May not seem that creepy or scary, but it really was to me at the time.

One time, I dreamt I spent £40 on a Metroid game co-developed by Team Ninja which turned out to be crap.

What?

My memory tells me that really happened. Shit.

When I was about.. ohh... ten, I had a series of nightmares that Freddy from the Elm Street movies was chasing me and my friends through our village.

Weird thing is I'd only ever heard of him vaguely in a pop culture way. I didn't know anything specific about him.

The worst however is the waking dreams I have when I've got a high fever... my depth perception goes to hell and I think everything around me has shrunk, or is far away if I'm trying to interact with it. I stumble around terrified, convinced I can't reach the end of the hallway or I'm going to stand on a pet and crush it.

I was in an old house, and there was an old woman. When I approached her she screamed and her mouth stretched. She chased me around the house 'till I woke up. Also, I had a dream where I got stabbed in the chest, and I had a pain in my ribs when I woke up...

I generally don't have nightmares, but I remember having one as a kid. Must've been about 6 or 7. I was in bed but I had my whole family around my bed, Mum, Dad and two younger brothers and they were all laughing hysterically and talking about how they were going to kill me, even my brother who was only a baby at the time. After I woke up screaming I didn't know who to run to lol.

Also, not so much a nightmare, but there was another time when I was about 10 when I was lying awake in bed. I had this weird feeling in my mouth like a had some cotton in it, everything in my room seemed to be stretching away from me and I was utterly convinced this monster was running really really fast from somewhere to come and kill me. When I went downstairs to my Mum I was utterly terrified, everything seemed to be going really quickly as well. Turns out I was coming down with the flu and had a really high temperature. I don't remember this but when my Mum was trying to cool me down with a wet flannel I asked her why she was trying to kill me >.<

It was like I was having a nightmare while I was awake.

Ok, so it may have been worse while I was actualy in the dream.
Thanks for that one, that gave me a good laugh.

I always find the simplest things are the scariest.

I used to have my computer right next to the door of my bedroom, and I once had a dream where I was sitting at it typing, in broad daylight. All of a sudden, with no warning, the door opened and a really pale, bald man wearing black clothes poked his head through and grinned at me wickedly. I actually woke up screaming from it and didn't sleep for the rest of the night.
Are you kidding me.... holy crap. Holy crap. You saw slender man.

He comes to you in dreams. Then he comes for you in real life. Id be terrified. Just thinking about him scares me shitless. Scariest thing ive seen online. Ever.

Mine is pretty straight forward. Zombie invasion, loads of them swarm me in a telephone box, i try to wake up, realizing it was a dream but i cant. I cant escape. Pure panic overwhelmed me as i thought it was real life. The second they prize the door open i wake up. Scary as fuck.

Oh God, I remember having a zombie apockalypse one as well when I was four, realised it was a dream, tried several times to wake up but failed each time. Maybe tried about four times or something. Those particular dreams always seem to last forever as well, don't they?
I also remember my great, great aunt Margaret kicked one zombie down the stairs of my granda's house, where I was living at the time. But that's not the strangest part.
I remember near the start of it, for whatever reason, Professor Utonium from the Powerpuff Girls was just casually sitting on the sofa (it was just like one of those live action/cartoon films like Who Framed Roger Rabbit!) reading the newspaper, then looked up all shocked, pointed out the window, "Oh, no! Look! The zombies!" or something along those lines, and I think that's when we all ran up the stairs of my granda's house as they started slowly after us.

Not.. not terrifying or traumatising at all, especially thinking back but being three or four years old at the time, it was pretty darned horrifying.
A recent-ish one was yet another zombie apockalypse one (those are the most common I get, come to think of it) was one where I shared a house with Freddie from iCarly (Yes, you read that right. I don't even watch the show, wtf) and one or two others or we came by car to pick them up to go with safety or something.. anyroad, I was sitting waiting anxiously in the car or.. desperately trying to get in it, turn round and I remember Freddie slowly walking out, zombified, in his bathrobe. Reminds me somewhat of Shaun of the Dead actually, just during night hours, a bit slower paced, yet more struggle to get in the car because trying to do everything in dreams just becomes awkward for some reason. Oh, plus the bathrobe.

All my dreams are just... weird. They're always terrifying at the time though. I'd wake up and still be scared but at the same time, "What the actual hell?" sort of thing. Although, I think if I had a dream about Slender Man, that would just about end me. Even though I know he's not real, haha.

It's kind of hard to descibe. But there was fire and death everywhere and I was being chased by a skeletal dragon that may have been the physical embodiment of Death...
...But I was a dragon too, which sort of took the edge off the scariness.

Only three come to mind:
1) If you consider this a dream. I'm sleeping, dreaming normally, then all of a sudden, I guess, I dreamt that I heard a really loud, high-pitch scream coming from the center of my room. As soon as I "hear" it I wake and sit up in bed yelling (my half-conscience brain thought that yelling at it might make it stop). Of course it stopped when I woke up. I couldn't see anything in my room. I then spent the next two hours with my back against the wall so I could see any ghostly assallents coming.
2) The next night, after the night #1 happened; this one was more of a dream. As I'm sleeping, I could of sworn that I was woken up by a large siloette kicking my door open. When the bang of the door swinging open woke me, if I was really awake, I couldn't see farth enough in the dark to see if my door was open. I'm guessing this was also part of dream-- my mom later came, remarked on the door being open, then closed it.
3) Time for one that sounds like it was from Paranormal Activity. So, I went to bed one night, pretty high. It was crazy. I pretty much convinced myself that I was asleep, I couldn't move, and I kept seeing quick flashes of really weird things. I remember it was pretty unpleasant, and I had to force myself to wake up.

I wouldn't call this scary or disturbing except to me cause i had it but, my dream involves me as a carrot with just a face sticking out of the ground. Suddenly theres a loud thud in the distance behind me. my face rotates around the outside of the carrot to see, and its a giant pink cute smiling bunny walking towards me. As panic sets in I try to get out of the ground (failing cause i dont have arms) and screaming at the top of my lungs. closer and closer the bunny gets as my screams get more frantic and blood curdling, untill finally the bunny gets to me, pulls me out of the ground and as Im heading into the darkness of its mouth its suddenly lifeted like a curtain, and theres the old 20the century fox logo, changed to say "20th century SUCKS to be you!" music and all. I always wake up drenched in a cold sweat right after that.

also, I have this one dream once a month where i walk through a door to find myself sitting in a big ornate chair in front of a fireplace in what looks to be a study of some sort, wearing a nice robe, smoking a pipe (I dont even smoke), and reading a newspaper. i look up at myself and simply say "I've got nothing tonight, come back tomorrow night." at which point I wake up. not scary it just weirds me out.
My God. I laughed the whole way through that post; I'm so sorry. My mum and sister were so confused there as well, I heard them muttering, "What the hell...?" and "What's wrong with you!?" and proceded to laugh at me themselves :L

I don't have any that have haunted me for a long time, but a few of my recent ones have been pretty trippy. Like the one where I was at this party at this hotel and Lady Gaga and The Situation were there and Gaga wanted to suck on my penis but I told her no. Or the one I had after I saw Requiem for a Dream where, spoiler alert, my arm was amputated. I know I did recently have an Inception-style dream within a dream where basically the second level dream was about how Alpha Protocol's dialog system would be more revolutionary if you pressed two of the buttons at once.

Or something. I'm not good with remembering dreams.
