a good horror movie has the viewer scared and on edge when literally nothing scary is happening in the movie. Any movie that lets the viewer's imagination take control of reality is absolutely terrifying.

There are really two kinds of horror movies - the gross out, exploitation, gorefest movies and movies that are truly frightening and not comfortable to watch. I find Final Destination 1 to be a favorite of the former and The Ring to be a favorite of the latter.

While I find The Ring to be the scariest movie I've ever seen, the scariest moment in any movie is definitely House of the Devil on the stairs to the attic. You see nothing, yet the suspense and terribleness of it all will make you tear your eyes out in horror.

Good new Horror that's actually scary or at least deeply unsettling? Gotta peek under some rocks, so to speak.

Few suggestions:

All of these are modern, within the last decade, at least.

I saw Antichrist, my God...it was boring as hell. I watched Imprint, and loved it, and it got to me because I'm scared of needles. I haven't seen the other ones you posted yet though.

No, j/k... I get where you're coming from. It's pacing is, while appropriate for it's overall tone, kinda like a flow of syrup. Sorta like Irreversible or Audition, outside of the "infamous scenes", there's not much going on except a whole bunch of conversation and gradual atmosphere.

Fortunately (?) for me, it was just the ticket. Cheers.

I just want to say thanks for not being a douche because I didn't like Antichrist. The last time I told someone I didn't like it he had a big ***** fit. He was the teachers aide in my film class, and he was a art house movie or bust kind of a guy. And he was a giant douche bag.
