Personally, I wouldn't stress it. Enjoy it, have a lovely evening, and take pictures. Really, my prom wasn't that big of a deal. I enjoyed it, but I didn't find it nearly as big of a deal as most in my class and everyone around me did.

Still, have a good time.

No school proms in my day. Only information I could pass on to you would be from American movies.

I guess, try and relax and just have some fun.

Step 1. Request this song.

Step 2. Do this dance.

Step 3. ???

Step 4. Profit.

That looked like every person in a club ever.
Basically yeah, OP should do this, including the casual walk at the beginning.

Bro, if it's anything like my prom (which I understand was like most proms) the dance floor will become an orgiastic mass after like 10 minutes. See, I got grinded on by pretty much every attractive female there. Towards the end, anyway. For the first few hours I sat around wallowing in self pity. Hope that helps.

i just used my prom to hang out in a tux =P, for us dancing disolved into jumping up and down to awful music and in the case of some very drunk people making a fool of themselfs , then being tricked into paying for the cab ride home...by me =P but ya just have a laugh dancing not a big issue imo.

At my college tech dance (same kinda thing) we decided that these things end up boring. So when the couples went up to dance a group of us had a techno-viking-pirate-rave. Errrrrrr....thats good advice right?

I've haven't gone to any of my schools proms/dances, personally seems like a waste of money, mostly cause most people I hang around with never go as well

At my school's prom, we rented the top floor of a downtown restaurant (with really nice views) and cleared it out for the night. Sucks that we were just 1 year under the legal drinking age at the time as there was a bar on that floor, but w/e. Everyone drank outside near the water a few hours beforehand, just after the graduation formal ceremony. We didn't have that thing where you have to "take" a girl.

So by the time me and the other 10 or so guys I was with actually got to this place, we were pretty drunk. Inside, in the bathroom, a lot of kids were doing coke or dropping bombs; I didn't, but I kind of wish I did.

I ended up dancing with this fat chick for about half an hour and then sitting there with my friends, making out with a girl I had had a crush on for about 10 minutes before realizing she was drunk and I wasn't her first tonight, and then just sitting there with my friends again. By the end of it, security had been called in, and kids who were too fucked up or who had brought drugs were getting kicked out. At about 5 AM, the bus came and drove us back to our suburb, where we went to Denny's, then to my friend's house to sleep, wake up, and play video games before saying goodbye.

So my "prom" was pretty much ideal, I guess. More like a house party, but at a restaurant instead.

Spike the punch, that is all.
For a moment I was confused as to why one would need to spike the punch, but then it hit me the drinking age is 21 in America.
Ours was loud and pretty crazy, there being free beer and wine from 19h to 00h. Then there was after prom party. Not many people remember what happened there.

Stick with your own crowd. On a side note, I spent my prom either in the corner of the dining room or washing windows, so you won't have the worst one ever.

I went to my girlfriends prom to make her happy. How it went? Well, the very next day I broke up with her. Okay, to be fair I should tell you that we already had issues. Anyway, it wasn't fun. At all. Though it did have chocolate cake, and I got to eat as much of it as I wanted. So all in all, it could have been worse. But it wasn't fun or anything.

Just go with the flow.

As for interesting experiences, I made out to my friends for the first two months that I wasn't going to the prom and that I hated it out of some irrational fear. Eventually they gave up, unknowing to the fact that I had bought a suit and paid my deposit.
However, the teacher in charge of the prom sent out an e-mail listing the people who had paid their deposit. I was forced to go to her office and beg her to remove my name from the list so that my friends didn't see what I was up to. I didn't bother trying to get a date for it... I couldn't risk it.
It was successful. On prom night I walked across the road to my friend Holly's house (the girl in charge of the limo), only to be nearly run down by my best friend in his car. There was a lot of shock, even from my friend who had to do up my tie first before she registered I wasn't even meant to be there.
And best of all? I got a date.

The bad thing was, it was a guy. We had a good time (say nothing).

But yeah. The moral of the story is, just roll with it and you'll have a good time.

So, my high school's prom is tomorrow. I got everything ready, tux, transport, whatever, but I still have no idea what to expect. Are there any kind souls who could offer some general tips (especially on dancing :< )?

Just to jazz up this topic somewhat.. anybody got some interesting experiences to share about their prom? ;0
My school prom is next Wednesday, can't wait :D

Just picked up my tux today, that's good news. The bad news is we weren't able to get a limo, so from now until then I need to worry about transport, or if it comes to the worst I could just walk there. It isn't even that far from my house...

My prom was utter shit. It was a school disco in tux and dresses.

Then again, I wasn't with anyone. Everyone had their boy/girlfriend by their side, so they didn't need someone like me, so they swatted me away like a bothersome fly.

Basically, find someone who won't do the above to you.

lol, rum and punch is the most deliciously deceptive drink to give to non-drinkers, ever.

Don't worry about dancing, just try to have a good time.
Hell, I can't dance worth shit and I still had a blast for my prom. But then again, I also didn't really give a damn about going to the prom.
Just think of it as an excuse to hang out with all your high school friends one last time before you all go your separate ways in life.

Not sure what else I can tell you.
You Americans make a HUUUUUGE deal about prom, and I can't understand why.

For us it wasn't so much the prom as it was the thing after prom. Most kids ended up getting rooms in Niagra Falls (Canadian side of course) and heading over there for the night. I remember about the first hour than small segments over the rest of the night. Still fun as shit.

My all boys school had a different kind of prom last year at Christmas; we played host to a dance with an all-girls school.
From what I hear, it was a pretty good laugh. Nothing special, no after party.
I wasn't there, I was moshing my face off at a Pendulum gig.
I regret nothing!

Get a group of friends and their dates to go with. From my experience it's just weird to go with only your date, group dancing and parties are way more fun.

Unless you have been in a relationship with your date for a long time, don't expect to get laid after the dance.
