I endorse this idea and support it greatly. Good for them, finally acknowledging kids play video games, and most video games have violence and aggression in some form or manner.

I was reading about this in the Daily Mail, they thought they where letting them play the games, ah the uninformed mass media...

I can do that lesson in about 30 seconds using GTA4 as an example.

"The whole point is to get children to realize what's real and what's not"

Sounds patronising as hell to me.

It is sad that we must teach children what is real and what isn't.

Were we all that stupid back then?
actually, I'm pretty sure we all were, remember the 1940s era propaganda? People actually BELIEVED that
Which propaganda?

I'd say "Only in the UK could this happen" but no, this is just stupid. Lawl.

I agree with you there, but sadly in this country and this day and age things like this are necessary, at least here in the UK.

I agree with this idea, I think it's pretty good and will hopefully show anti-gamers that games can be used for good as well as bad. The police could easily have turned around and complained that kids are playing these games and called for a total ban on GTA and it's ilk, but instead they're using it for good purposes. And that's something I'm happy to see now :).

I imagine this type of education would be one of the first things to have its budget cut in times of shortage. Still, it's well-intentioned, and while it might not seem all that necessary to us, if it helps prevent a murder or two one day, it pays off.

I would call it ironic, but I called this crap years ago.
Wonder how long it takes before the coppers realize they were dupped and got sold the wrong game.

Itchy and Scratchy? Huh, that Simpsons episode was right, it CAN be used to teach the consequences of violence ("Itchy and Scratchy Land" 2F01)

Couldn't find the video for it but i immediately thought of this Family Guy moment:

Guy on Street #2: It's 3:00. Where the hell is Louie?
Guy on Street #1: Well, you tell me. Louie left his house at 2:15 and had to travel a distance 6.2 miles traveling at a rate of five miles a hour. When will Louie get here?
Guy On Street #2: Depends if he stops to see his ho.
Guy on Street #1: That's what we call a "variable".

I think this is a fantastic idea, way to think outside the box. Like he said, if it already interests the children, it should hopefully hook onto them better.

Picking up prostitute off the street: right. Killing prostitute afterward: wrong?
Uhhhh...Actually both wrong in the UK...
/sigh. To paraphrase:
Will it teach kids that picking up a prostitute off the street is right, but killing the prostitute afterward is wrong?
It's a joke, y'know.

On topic, I've nothing against this scheme. Will it work? That remains to be seen. But you'd have to be living under a rock to assume kids of that age don't play GTA. The problem will always remain (to some degree) due to the parents, but they might as well try to teach the kids some sense.

IT'S THE PARENT'S JOB TO TEACH THIS!
Sadly so i remeber when i was at school having to help a 10 year old doing a ""who would in real life would i want to be" report and spent half an hour trying to explain that superman isnt a real person.

It's a decent idea, but knowing the people at my school, they would probably just laugh, and this whole thing would probably make the situation worse for the ADD kids that want to cause chaos for the fun of it. They're a bunch of insurgents.

Another thing, maybe they could show clips from movies such as Inglourious Basterds and Scarface to show more realistic violence?

This could work if handled correctly. From what i can tell the main reason people think video games are bad is because stupid kids copy them. If this program goes on and they still start crime, this tells you they are:

a. Too stupid to lisson or

b. They would start crime without the help of video games
