lets keep this on topic people.

heres what you should wonder.....why is their court system so damn stupid?
My theory remains: too much contact with the catholic church is the reason why their court system is so damn stupid, and im sticking by it.

Where religion gets a foothold stupidity always follow.
oh well thanks, i like to think that just because im religious im automatically stupid.

ITS A WONDER AS TO HOW I GOT INTO COLLEGE!!!!!

also, i wouldn't call that a theory as much as a prejudice remark.

Ok Italy this is your last chance. I'm only going to let this pass because your Pizzas are so delicious.

Hopefully justice and common sense will prevail. Though it is a thorny issue. Do geologists have the duty to warn about possible earthquakes, and did they do all they could? Were signs ignored or the authorities not told in time? I can see this case bogging down.
wasn't the pizza actually made in ancient Persia?

Maybe, but Italy perfected it. In fact I'm off to Italy tomorrow so I shall see how good the Pizza actually is.

Sooo, I don't know all the circumstances surrounding this case... but.. if they failed at their job, the case should be at least be inspected... to put them at a trial might be a bit of an overreaction... but well, maybe they already got enough evidence against them (manslaughter through culpable negligence, is still a crime).

And I somewhat have enough trust in the law, so they won't get lynched by any angry peasants with pitchforks... on the other hand... I don't really know on what basis the Italian jurisdiction works...

I can't...

If anyone needs me, I'll be in the angry dome.

Is there room in there for two?

Government on trial should be a new reality series, right? Wouldn't that be one of the highest rated programs ever? I'd think so.
Better make it three.
Lets make it a whole damn party. I'll bring the spiked purple soda.
Ooh! I'll bring the chips!

Jesus... TBH I thought this was a hoax at first.. But what am I saying?? All scientist want to destroy the world and kill people right? Who would ever think its just about the collection and understanding of facts and knowledge?

Only everyone who isn't a politician
(I say they bastards are trying to cover their own negligence for not funding or listening to the scientists)

It's HAARP ! it creates & amplifies earthquakes, changes temperature, manipulate plasma, induce messaging in your mind, etc.

how can a supposedly "scientific weather research center" in Alaska would be guarded by Navy Seals and out of reach from civilian scientists...

Yes, those evil plotting scientists are being put on trial for the 300 victims who lost their lives in 2009 to the L'Aquila earthquake. How you ask? I'll just quote the news article and let you see for yourself. Yes, the article is pretty biased, but really how else can you see this event without scratching your head and wondering what the hell are they thinking?

I came into this thread expecting to see about how someone had recreated Tesla's earthquake machine.

I am disappoint.

Eh, ive heard about this.

They're not actually being sued for causing or predicting earthquakes, but for releasing a statement that "its not gonna be that bad" thus putting the mind of the populace at ease, and therefor causing more casualties.

Damn, the legal system is finally onto us scientists. However will we cause wanton destruction and death with our mining lasers now -_-
Dammit! Quickly, we must flee from the filthy hordes to the monn!

OT: That is utterly retarded.
Like the chinese kings who executed their astromers if they didn't predict an eclipse.

Religiously funded witch-hunts and supression of scientific finds speak pretty loudly in favor of my theory.

No, im no saying that you're stupid specifically, but you can't really deny the phenomenon going on in the macro-scale, right?

Let it be. They're in the "LOL they're stupid" phase: they'll ignore anything that might put the news in perspective.

If you'd like to read this story from a less *ahem* "impassioned" source, you can read it here:

http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/311759

It makes the important distinction that the scientists had told the government that a major earthquake was "improbable", so I can see why they'd be a bit miffed that the entire city was reduced to rubble and three hundred people lost their lives.

Not that Gizmodo, the pinnacle of unbiased reporting, would ever overlook something so important for the opportunity for lavish dramatics.

Not only is predicting eartquakes *not* the job of seismologists, there isn't even any way to predict earthquakes to begin with, aside from telling people they've built their cities on fault lines, and even then there's no way to determine when an earthquake will strike there.

This trial would be the equilvelent to trying to sue a private eye for failing to read a psychopath's mind and arresting him/her before they get the chance to get their hands on a knife in order to stab someone, even though it isn't even a private eye's job to arrest criminals. In other words; utter bullshit. It's a goddamn shameful that the prosecuters weren't tossed out on their asses the instant they brought this case to court.

when was the last time a witch hunt happened? and isnt that like....less than a percent of the total religious groups? hell, how many fucked up NON religious groups are out there doing the same thing but for another agenda?

i never blame the belief behind it, just the nutjobs who do it.

Also - a quick note - Roman Empire....evil? Imperialist, maybe. Not evil, though. Our entire culture stems from the Romans, and nobody has managed an empire like their's since, and if they were truly evil, they'd have lost their grip within months.[/quote]

If you're suggesting that the Roman Empire hasn't been matched in terms of size, population and power since it's fall, then you're mistaken. The Japanese Empire, Empire of Brazil, Portugese, Second French colonial, Qing dynasty of China, Spanish, Russian, Mongol and British Empires were all superior in those respects, they're also in order according to the aforementioned criteria. This list alone is without roughly five other superior Empires, due to my lack of knowledge about them, however they were indeed superior.

However if you are referring to an "Empire like their's" by some other criteria, then you may well be correct. I agree with you that the Romans weren't evil though, just living in a different culture where imperialist policies were fairly normal, as opposed to the much more anti-conflict (albeit still not anti-conflict enough) views of the modern World.
