Burton c Bell of Fear Factory is, to me, the best metal singer out there. He's a perfect blend of clean/scream.

I'm a death/grind and black metal fan. I fucking love 'em. That is not to say I don't like clean singing, just apply harsh and clean vocals where appropriate, really.

Also worthy of note is that the screaming you hear in death metal is just about impossible to do with an untrained voice. You'd blow it out very quickly.

Incidentally, I also practice death vocals myself, sadly I have yet to find a band, haha XD
That's why most of these bands that scream don't do it the whole song. And then I laugh because they suck.

Also, good luck.

Depends whether it fits with the music. Screaming and grunting and the like is a relatively experimental form of vocalising though, and as with everything experimental, it can fail.

Moreover when it's used to cover up a band's lack of talent (which happens a LOT, especially in local band scenes) it gets really transparent and is quite disappointing. I'd pick autotune over compensatory screaming vocals almost any time. Both are shit though.

Bottom line: it must be used wisely. :) But it can be used to great effect. For instance I can't imagine In Flames sounding anything near as good with clean vocals.

Enjoy: The funniest video on YouTube.

Also, I saw Suicide Silence at Bamboozle Left last year. Their fans are a nice bunch and it was the most fun I've ever had in a mosh pit. I didn't care for the music, but it's always fun when a Metal or Hardcore fanbase can get over itself and just have fun.

Depends on the vocalist. Some can do it great, and others.. Not so much.
Yep.

It also depends on when it's used. I really don't see the point in just screaming during the entire song, every song.

Wanna make sure your band isn't around in the future? Let the vocalist scream every song. Then tell him good luck with the throat surgery.

It all depends on the song mostly. I don't hate it, but I don't love it either

I knew what video it was going to be. I've seen it before, and it's just as funny every time.

"Woo!" haha. I think it's funny how in the beginning they were teabagging, trying to look tough. Fail.

Well I like my black metal bands like Burzum, Immortal and Mayhem and I enjoy the screaming style vocals used in black metal. But when I hear bands like Suicide Silence and Bring me the Horizon screaming I just think they still sound like emo's. Black metal bands like Gorgoroth all have deep and powerful vocals, whereas bands like BMTH and Escape the fate sound like my next door neighbours little kids throwing a paddy because their girlfriends left them. That and black metal bands don't ruin good songs.

TL;DR. I like screaming if it's manly and not emo.

Most metal vocalists can growl for years without hurting themselves.

If they're winding up in the hospital, they're doing it wrong.

Sometimes I do find some music containing screaming that are ok, I have never been a fan off it to be honest.

I like it when it's used well. Bands like System of a Down, Dir En Grey, Billy Talent, and Versus the Ocean are good examples. I generally hate when the entire song is screaming or growling, though. The only exception being We Butter the Bread with Butter, because they're just awesome.

Haha, yeah, they're ridiculous. The song itself kind of grows on you and is actually really fun in Rock Band though, so that's also funny. Whenever my friends and I play, we reenact the video. The guitarist tries to rub his balls on the ground, then he and the bassist throw their guitars over their head, then I, the singer, do that fun little rope-skip dance after the techno breakdown. It's like it's so bad that it's fun and we love it.
