Assassin's Creed II, All TES games after Arena (since Arena is worse compaired to each), possibly Two Worlds 2, Soul Calibur 2 and 3, Street Fighter II, Mortal Kombat Trilogy, Dynasty Warriors (some would debate 6 though) Rainbow Six: Vegas 2, GTA: Vice City and Sonic The Hedgehog 2. Plenty more though, but thats enough for now.

To all you Mass Effect 2 lovers out there - Mass Effect 2 was more combat based, but they remove the thing I loved about ME1 combat at the same time. Overheating weapons. I know that it was annoying when they overheated but it was great that I didn't run out of ammo for my guns(unlike the new one, where on an Insanity playthrough you are scrambling for ammo like a piece of bread trying to find it's children if you get my metaphor). Also the story wasn't as strong - but overall good game - I am in the middle of my second play through right now.

Um, someone else said it right before you did. Whatever it's still true.

Anyway, Devil May Cry 3 was better than 1 or 2. Resident Evil 2 was better than the first. Metal Gear Solid was better than Metal Gear 1 or 2. Super Mario 3 was better than Super Mario 2 (and possibly 1). Assassin's Creed 2 was better than 1. Uncharted 2 was better than 1. Jak 2 was better than 1. Ratchet and Clank 3 was better than 1 or 2.

In games it's almost too easy to find sequels that were better than the originals. The ones off the top of my head:

Gothic 2 (of course, if you know me)
System Shock 2
Resident Evil 2 (my favorite in the entire series)
No, although Silent hill 2 was a fantastic game, I still prefer the first.
Street Fighter 2
Super C
Rolling Thunder 2
Phantasy Star 3 (I know, but it has a special spot in my heart for being my first ever RPG) and 4

When it comes to movies, it becomes much more difficult. The Empire Strikes Back doesn't even count anymore. Toy Story 2 is a good example, I guess. Here are some others:

ME 2 was to ME 1 what GTA IV was to GTA San Andreas, merely a husk of what the previus game in the series was, in terms of gameplay diversity, content and FUN, a DOWNGRADE, and it should be THE OTHER FUCKING WAY AROUND.

You don't fucking SIMPLIFY a sequel, removing all the things that made the first game awesome, just so that console morons can play it, you ADD SHIT TO IT!

Whoever thinks otherwise is not worthy of the title of "gamer".

Assassins Creed 2 was better than Assassins Creed 1. Bit obvious, but yeah.

No. No it wasn't. By the time you've:
a) stealthed your way through the Terms and Conditions;
b) fought your way through needlessly large numbers of DRM procedures; and
c) assassinated the account creation procedures on every website and forum you can get an account for,
what's the point of actually playing the game?! You've pretty much beaten it on 'insane difficulty' mode already....

OT: I'm also for ME2 being better than ME1. I thought KotOR2 was better than KotOR1 as well (although I'm prepared to admit the possibility that some people don't agree). Also, there's pretty much no argument that Warcraft 2 was better than WC:O&H, and WC3 was better than WC2.

Do you mean all that crap on the PC version? I was kinda talking about the, you know, game part of the game.

I think the rule is that, generally, movie sequels aren't as good due to unoriginality and trying to squeeze more money out of it, but game sequels are better due to advances in technology and added gameplay aspects.

This isn't always true of course, because Transporter 2 was WAAAAAY better than both 1 and 3 while Halo 2 sucked compared to 1 and 3.
