@Schizzy: Remember, I am the town mage, I do MAGIC! So I have my funny little ways of finding out things. I also started a local little pub, you know, to have some income, but that's not really important.

*Pub suddenly appears out of thin air*

Come inside, I'll give the first round.

@CA Yeah, I was glad to have finally pulled a planeswalker out of 30 or so packs but I wish it had been a Gideon or Garruk. Liliana won't be gone for long thankfully, and boy does her new art look awesome! I was never a big fan of her old art though.

Ok, I see what you're saying about card draw spells and that makes a lot of sense. I think I have some pretty decent ideas for characters so let me know when it's ready. I'm looking forward to it for sure.

@Fragrance: I don't like Liliana's new art. Much preferred her older style, same goes for Jace.

Couple of things about characters, though: Nothing Phyrexian in nature, in terms of both characters or spells. This is, however, set after the Scars of Mirrodin block, so you could choose spells from Scars or Besieged. You can't choose planeswalkers as part of your spell list, though. Other 'walkers aren't part of the RP at present, and I doubt they will be. If they ever do become part of it they'll be under my control.

@CA I agree that Jace's old art was way better. He should've just left his hood up.

Fair enough, I wasn't planning anything Phyrexian related regardless. And I suppose it wouldn't make sense for us to be able to summon other planeswalkers either. At this point I'm leaning towards an artifact based planeswalker but blue back mind destruction sounds like a fun idea as well.

@CA The RP sounds interesting, I'm a bit busy with a few at the moment, so I can't join, but it is the perfect excuse for me to ask this: is the new MtG game any good for beginners? I want to try and get into it, it seems like fun.

@Fragrance: Not sure what I'm gonna do with my characters, but I think I may need to write three in order to get the plot going according to the brilliant idea I just came up with ten minutes ago. Also, still working out things like a character sheet template, a world map, introduction and suchlike. Rules are simple enough, and can be taken from my other RPs with a few modifications to suit the new thread.

@Schizzy: Pick up the Soul Drinkers Omnibus. Amazingly good read. Not sure if they'll have it in stock, but it is so good. Outside of the normal 40k box of thinking too.

@CA:I have so much 40k Knowledge. Id be interested. But I dont really like the idea of being inquisitors. I think there are better things to do. Like be Tau, or fight orks, or be in the Guard, or even be Space Marines, or be Rouge elements, or be Chaos elements or... Im just not that fond of the inquisition.

@Icarion: My inquisitor will be Ordo Xenos, but fairly radical in some ways. You could be a Tau character, but they would have to have turned their back on the Greater Good, or be somehow mentally reconditioned (not sure how that would be done since Tau are resistant to the Warp). There will be some Ork fighting, though.

And characters will most likely come from any walk of life. Guard veterans, techpriests, sanctioned psykers, heck, even eldar... and for the record, I'd allow only one Space Marine and/or Assassin. Too many and it becomes an OP-fest quickly.

@CA Brilliant idea you say? Consider me intrigued.

@Omega You mean Duel of the Planeswalkers right? I picked it up on PSN awhile back and I'd say it's decent for beginners. It has a tutorial, but I didn't play through it and it handles a lot of damage calculation and card effects and whatnot on it's own so you don't have to worry about remembering abilities and things like that. And rather than giving you a bunch of cards and making you build your own deck it gives you preconstructed decks to play with and as you win games it gives you cards to modify those decks with which seems like it would be a good thing for beginners since deck building can be a complicated and unforgiving process at times.

TL:DR Yeah, it's good for beginners. And of the two decks to start with, Koth deck is garbage. Gideon's is the way to go.

@Fragrance/Omega: Personally, I'm a big fan of Tezzeret's deck once you unlock it and all its cards. If you get the right opening hand, you can play all of it on turn three.

Turn 1: Island, Signal Pest.
Turn 2: Island, Etherium Sculptor, Signal Pest if you draw it (Etherium Sculptor reduces the casting cost of artifacts).
Turn 3: Land if drawn (preferably Terramorphic Expanse to get a Swamp for Undermine or Go for the Throat), Etherium Sculptor for 1 mana, two Steel Overseers for free since Sculptors are cumulative. Then you keep tapping the Overseers to pump everything each turn and constantly attack with the Signal Pests.

Of course, the chances of having this exact hand are pretty slim. But I can hope. =D

@CA Yeah Tezzeret's deck was one of my favorites, second only to Kiora's Ancient Depths because ramping into huge dudes like Ulamog and Simic Sky Swallower will always be my favorite strategy. The only downside is that the deck only has one removal spell and it costs 5 but I imagine that's all for the sake of balance.

@CA: I know nothing to very little about both subjects your RPs are based on. Just thought I'd say that so I have a post on this page.

@Fragrance: I don't play much green; maybe that's why I'm not a fan of Ancient Depths, or the green/blue combination in general. I mean, you could throw an Eldrazi into any of those decks; even though it wouldn't be particularly thematic. Tezzeret's deck is my current favourite because I love the idea of artifacts helping artifacts (Etherium Sculptor, Steel Overseer, Master of Etherium), plus the Metalcraft bonuses you get from other cards in the deck. There are a few counterspells in there as well, which I do like.

Also, Darksteel Colossus. Wish it was Blightsteel, though.

@CA This is true, but how many decks can reliably get to 10 or 11 mana? Darksteel or Blightsteel go with the artifact theme since Etherium sculptor makes the cost more manageble, although they would be better if the deck had Master Transmuter or tinker like Karn to cheat them into play.

Speaking of which, I went up against Karn in the revenge campaign and his turn one went something like this. Island, Mox Sapphire, Mox Sapphire, Tinker saccing a sapphire into Darksteel. I scooped.

@Fragrance: Best counter for either Colossus? Revoke Existence. Sadly, only Gideon's deck has them.

I haven't started on the Revenge campaign yet. I want to finish Archenemy first (just got Sorin, Nissa, Kiora and Nicol Bolas left, plus Seek No Longer) and deal with the two Hard challenges in the standard campaign before I go into Revenge. Haven't beaten any of the Hard challenges: don't tell me anything about them.

I also want the expansion pack when it gets released. Innistrad promos, being able to play as an Archenemy, three more decks and extra cards for all the others... Squee~

@CA I only have Karn left, but as you can imagine he's pretty tough. I went for revenge campaign before Archenemy since it seemed like less of a coin toss. Those Scheme cards can make winning almost impossible if they get the right one at the right time.

Yeah, that expansion is gonna be pretty sweet. I look forward to wreaking havoc as the Archenemy. *Evil laugh*

@Fragrance: Schemes are awesome if they have nothing to target, like early in the game since the Archenemy always takes first turn. They only really start to take effect once the opponents have a decent number of permanents in play, unless the Archenemy draws cards like I Delight in Your Convulsions (Exsanguinate for three life), Introductions Are In Order (they can play a creature from their hand for free), or Look Skyward and Despair (they get a 5/5 Dragon). Then you're kinda buggered.

God, I want to play as the Archenemy now. I wanna see all the Schemes you get.
