It was a rainy Monday. Technically, it was Valentine's day where my sweetheart was. What better time to celebrate it together, right? I closed my laptop. Confuddling the residents of this small town was fun, but I realized that I shouldn't have put the spy on the list. It was kinda my fault that he was able to verify his identity officially so soon. Oh well, notes for next time. A freshly frosted cake sat on my desk: chocolate, with strawberries on top. I was never a big fan of either, but it wasn't for me.
You get me everytime. Why'd you have to be so cute? It's impossible to ignore you. Oh must you make me laugh so much? It's bad enough we get along so well~
It was nice to have someone to see on the dreaded V-day. Instead of being a bitter lonely single person, I had a date with my boyfriend. Even in Murderville, that was romantic. We met at a small cafe for coffee. Well, I drank some festive pink hot chocolate. Coffee was never my thing. I brought the cake, wrapped in ribbons. It felt a little silly, but I liked it.
"I got you something, sweetie." I grinned, inching the box in his general direction. He loved it, needless to say.
"Aw... you didn't have to get me anything..." he smiled. "I'll need to make it up to you somehow..."
I laughed. He was adorable.
We talked the afternoon away, and then it was time to go home. An awkward yet sweet kiss later I was back in my apartment, staring out of the window. I never felt so alive, ironically.
Then the glass shattered. I felt a brief headache, a burn, then nothing. I didn't even feel myself hit the floor. My vision was dark. As life left, I could feel what little that was left in my head leaking out onto the floor. Blood crept down the bullet hole between my eyes. Whoever the killer was, I didn't catch a glance of him. He probably never even came to make sure I was dead.
I never got to tell my sweetheart goodbye. Won't you tell him for me?
