So, we all are fanboys to something. What game series or companies have you felt betrayed you, and how? Also, what are you a fanboy of now?

I always felt betrayed by World of Warcraft, I always loved the story and I feel that it has died. Its become so popular that they've had to make it a marketable piece of dreck. Garona Halforcen was turned into a stripper. I was never really keen on the idea of the Forsaken joining the horde, but when the Blood Elves joined the horde I had to quit. The story was officially dead. Orcs only got a single quest line on their own damn planet, while everything else was elves and wind chimes.

Currently i'm a fanboy of Bioware I guess, I mean, they haven't let me down yet.

Stories and series can't cater to the wishes of every single fan. In the end, someone is gonna wind up upset at what develops. That's really all there is to it.

Ubisoft & Prince of Persia. Absolutely wonderful first game with all the best things EVAR, but then they go and release this Two Thrones crap. Big letdown.

I've never felt betrayed by a series.
The whole concept reminds me too much of fanboys who gets pissed and angry when they're favourite band actually gets a deal, stops beeing underground and suddenly they're sellouts because people know about them.
It's like the consumer/fan think the sereis/franchise/band was made solely for him, and that spreading the thing tó other people is taking it away from him.

AAARGH! my neighbor knows who "donkey-fluffer" is! i will forever hate the band for trying to make a living off of music when they should've stayed underground for us chosen few who happened to find them before they became famous!"

I guess thats not really what you ment, so don't take it personal, but thats what i think of when i hear "betrayed by (insert game/series/band here) so i've never been able to think like that.

I felt betrayed when Halo stopped being beloved and started becoming reviled if that counts.

I don't think it does, because that nothing to do with anything the series itself did, but how the "general population" (and I use that term loosely) began to view it.

Its not really like that, its more like everyone had their slices of Halo cake and now they're full : )
They'll get hungry again soon.

I have to say, I usually give a series a chance before I hate it, expecially if I tend to throw bile at it every chance I get. But I have never given Max Payne a chance at being good and I doubt I will. It just seems like such a forced and overused stereotype. The bad cop out for revenge, oh joy, thats so unique. I dunno, maybe it was just me being my usual pessimistic self.

Betrayed? No, I'm not that emotional about it. I do feel like some games and series did some dick moves and screwed the fanbase over.

Heroes of Might and magic screwed us over with the 4th game, but the 5th one was a step back into the light.

World of Warcraft did rape the lore and characters of the Warcraft world, at least the expansions did.

I did feel screwed over by Bethesda when I saw the broken mediocrity that was Oblivion, but they made up for it with Fallout 3.

Total War did let me down somewhat with Empire, and considering Creative Assembly's latest game (Stormrise) I have little faith in it getting better...

I generally place my faith in Bioware and Obsidian, with mild caution towards Blizzard's upcoming non-MMO titles.

This and Silent Hill when they decided to cop it out as a movie. They screwed that up big time...

Max Payne 1 is one of the best games ever made, especially the story. Saying it's just another tale about a renegade cop is like saying that Portal is just another shooter.
I suppose that could be true, and it is at my local blockbuster... But.. I dunno. I am very skeptical.

I felt betrayed by Devil May Cry 4 (when talking about the DMC series I always say the three DMC games like Yahtzee does with India Jones series). I really seemed like they were out of ideas for levels, puzzles, and characters. I never could get fluid enough with the moves for it to be at least as fun as DMC 2(which is the worst of the three in my opinion). Rather than enjoying all this defying of various laws of physics I found myself waiting for it to be over. The worst part is you can do none of it in the actual game. All things considered it seems like after DMC3 the series got sucked into the black hole that is JRPGs.

GTAIV. It was all 'fur coat and no knickers.'
For all the hype and fuss about graphics and physics they'd forgotten about the fun. Missions were exactly the same as we've had for years and not just from R*.
You could argue that you get what you get with the GTA series. But atleast previous games had always added something with every subsequent game. It seems to me the R* scaling back what they'd given us from GTAIII, copters, Aircraft a whole state, just so they could release it in the games for this gen. Which strikes me as a bit of a cop out. They are basically going to use the template for this gen that they used for the last gen.
We need something truly special with our new consoles not just a repeat of games we've already played.

The problem is Deleted, every series can do that once and make a ton of money. They can get the hype up and spend half as much as they did on the predecessor and be set until they buy their next golden yacht.

This for me is a tough one. If anything though, I'd have to say I've been severely let down by Monolith Soft and the making of Xenosaga. To me, Xenogears (Created by Tetsuya Takahashi, when he was still with Square) was a game that really hit home with me. The vast storyline, phenominal storytelling, riveting game play, graphics and unorthadox combat system, music score kept me wanting more from Xenogears. No matter how many times I beat it I would feel the same way, time and time again; It really was/is a game that makes you think 'What if'. Truly for me, this is my all time favourite game on any platform.

When I heard they were making Xenosaga, with the formation of Monolith Soft I got excited. Being as Xenogears was Episode 5, it was a great chance to see the story from the beginning. How it came about, what lead to it, etc etc. Though after playing Xenosaga, I was profoundly disappointed at the direction it took and how it felt as there were no corrillation (Sp?) or anything showing that it was the beginning of the story. Poor gameplay, even worse storytelling not to mention horrible voice acting. The only thing that was any improvement was the graphics, and even then I felt those were lacking for the time. I gave up playing Xenosaga after the first one, haven't touched either the second or third installment, nor any of it's other platform games, which at this point it's nothing more then pettyless money grabbing.

Who knows. Perhaps if they do decided to do a Xenosaga 4, it will make sense and actually do some tying into the Xenogears story. I'm not gonna hold my breath on it though.
