Before I give my choice... please please please stop saying Guitar Hero. It's gotten better in my opinion. They've stopped using cover songs, they've gotten more songs, they've updated the controls, and they've added great online play. Now people saying it should stop trying to be Rock Band need to think for a second. Imagine you are an ignorant consumer who wants to buy a music game. You go into the store and see two choices: Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero: World Tour. Now, imagine that World Tour has just the guitar and no band thing. You would compare the two and say "Well, they both look good, but Rock Band has 2 guitars and a drum set! I'm going to get the one with more features." It had to keep on par with Rock Band and if it kept just the guitar, then it wouldn't be getting anywhere technologically. So please stop bashing it. It's just a music game that's the same as the first one.

Now, I would have to say Sonic. It may be a little cliche, but seriously. I love the first Sonic games. Hate the new ones. It's sad, really.

Correct. Except i would say that LoZ : MM was an awesome game maybe not as good as OOT but not a bad game either.
I agree, it was different and added something special to the Zelda games and I guess Wind Waker and Twilight Princess did as well. They were all good games but I feel they could learn something from OoT, thats all.

Mercenaries. The first one was so simple, gritty, and fun.
The second is just annoying.

Final Fantasy. After FFX nothing good came out except for ports (War of the Lions). X-2 couldn't live up to its predecessor, Tactics A2 was just not fun in the slightest and XII is downright the worst FF title I have ever played. I'm hoping XIII will be the first good FF in a while but I won't get my hopes up.

The better question for you is "what hasn't gone downhill?"
Metal.
Gear.
Solid.
Yep, Metal Gear Solid always sucked so it can't get much worse.. Badum Tish.

I'll agree with the ongoing argument of "all sequels" and leave it at that.

Specificly though? World of Warcraft. Warcraft 3 had alot of plot holes but I forgave it, such as the inexplicably and sudden change of tone from Ner'zhul being a coward and an idiot to being an ultra evil badass. Lets not forget the mary-sue Arthas and killing off most of the worthwhile heroes. (The best hero, Doomhammer, already being dead by Warcraft 3, the bastards.)

World of Warcraft saw the addition of the Forsaken into the Horde, which made no fucking sense but in the end I rolled with it because it wasn't that far of a strech, another outcasted group seeking refuge from racism and attempting to make a new life for themselves.

Then The Burning Crusade came out, seeing the addition of Protoss and California-- I mean Draenei and Blood Elves. The cockslap was that the orcish home world didn't have much orcish content, it was mostly focused on the two new races. Then a group of light elementals that looked like floating jigsaw puzzles are revealed to be the source of the light.

The Wrath of the Lich King saw Dalaran fly its city to Northrend to answer Malygos' call of them abusing magic. Yeah that really proves you have alot of brain power, flying an entire fucking city over to Northrend and endangering the civilian populous when it would have been just as easy to create a fucking portal there to one of the already established alliance settlements. Not to mention there is no mention of Ner'zhul yet, just Arthas, which is yet another cockslap to the Horde as most of the content we've been getting feels forced and out of place.

To top it all off most of the instances feel out of place in the world, such as the wintergrasp instance and an instance to defeat a group of Black Dragons in their own fucking turf for no better reason then their there. (dey iz evul k?)

To finish off what little interest I had in the universe they created a manga, their art style is awful, turning Garona Halforcen into a chibi stripper. The story is tripe, which fits well with the other recent additions. Such as an amnesiac king who can fell dragons with one hit with his mighty elven blades.

Overall the series should never have been made into an MMO.

this entire thread is pointless. the people who really love the original game will never be satisfied with a sequel because it either isnt exactly like the original or it is and then its boring. just never buy the sequel to a game you absolutely love and youll avoid thinking it ruined the series (this can obviously be disregarded if you just want to know what happens next in the storyline)

Tribes.
UT
Mercanaries
Mechwarrior (I DESPERATELY want a new mechwarrior, not a new mech assault)
Armored Core (To be fair, it's suffering from bell curve syndrome)
Dawn of War

Not until Crytek realease the fourth one. If you think that Future Perfect was worse than the other two, then you are so, so wrong. It's just an addition of an indepth storyline! Apart from that, it's exactly the same, what more could you want?

Anyway, Devil May Cry. It made me cry. ;_;
