I just watched the season 3 finale of the brilliant detective/comedy series Bored to Death and interested as to when I could expect to see the next instalment of one of my favourite shows I googled it and found out that even though the writer was promising season 4 would be the biggest and best season HBO cancelled it late last year while continuing the creation of ailing franchise Enlightened. Bored to death had Zach Galifinkas, Ted Danson and Jason Shwartzman, it was delightful as well as critically acclaimed and while the views were not brilliant I'm still slightly baffled by the cancellation. The cancellation did however prompt me to ask this question: Escapists what T.V./film/game series do you think ended before it's time? Alternatively what series do you think has gone on longer than it should of?

Pirates of Dark Water. So much. (If anyone else remembers that show... and the SNES game. I played that thing so much - except it didn't have a save feature. At all. Don't think I ever beat it.)

I was going to try and be inb4 the Firefly responses, but then I remembered that this is The Escapist.

The 4400.

And while I don't think it was prematurely cancelled because eight seasons is still pretty impressive, Scrubs got shafted pretty hard by the Writer's Strike and their moving to ABC.

Todd And The Book Of Pure Evil. It hasn't been cancelled yet but it wasn't an extremely popular show and hasn't been renewed for a third season. This makes me worry for the show's future. Hopefully it will get picked up by another network and given the green light for season three but I can't help but be pessimistic.

My top 5 prematurely canceled shows are: Arrested Development, Clerks: The Animated Series, Freaks & Geeks, Firefly, and Pushing Daisies
Runner up: Dead Like Me

Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip used to be on that list, but then Sorkin's The Newsroom hit HBO and I realized that Sorkin really only writes the same show over and over, so I don't miss 60 as much.

Megas XLR. It only had 2 seasons and it is so upsetting since it was such a great show.

Y'know Scrubs had 9 seasons right? Admittedly season 9 was awful and JD was only in it for around 4 episodes and they completely got rid of Carla and Jordan from what I can remember...

Hah. I knew somebody would take the bait.

That's the joke. Even Bill Lawrence wanted Season 9 to be more of a spin-off than a direct continuation of Scrubs, and had it been a spin-off it probably would've fared much better than it did. But as it stands, Season 9 isn't really Scrubs so I refuse to include it with the previous eight seasons.

Heroes. That's right! Mutha-truckin' Heroes! I loved that series, even when it was crap. It was starting to get really good again towards the end but then it was brutally axed! Right when they ended it on a huge plot twist too!

But they already made Scrubs: Interns which was a half decent spin-off whereas season 9 is universally bad because of the new, unlikeable characters it immediately throws at you each one a more "hip" version of a pre existing character but with non of the good traits and tries to make yo sympathise with them!

I never said it was good. I said that had it not born the name Scrubs, it probably would've been received a little better. But it had to live up directly to the legacy that had already been established, and because of said new characters and the removal of old characters (The Janitor, Carla, minimal appearances by JD and Elliot and the vast numbers of third-tier extras that had been given screen-time in all of the previous seasons) it ended up falling flat.

Wait, this is getting off-topic.

They were talking, and I think they still are, about bringing Red Dwarf back but after the atrocity of Back to Earth and the fact that it kind of fell apart towards the end (not got bad though) I'm kinda glad they stopped making Red Dwarf...

They're not just talking about it, it's happening. http://reddwarf.wikia.com/wiki/Series_X
Looks to be better than B2E and the studio audience is back, but the boys from the Dwarf are really showing their age.

No mention of Farscape? *hangs head in disappointment*

Could have gone on way longer than 4 seasons, fucking brilliant sci-fi show. I didn't mind the movie end, but god damn I wish they could have kept going.

Scorpius was one of to best antagonists I've ever had the fun of witnessing.
