The series i think should end
Most of nintendo's favourites such as mario, legend of zelda, metroid and super smash bros.
They need new material and all these games have had recent ends which seem fitting. Nintendo needs new material. Not that we will be able to convince them of this but i think its time to change consoles. Mario and whatever else is one of their biggest money makers. The same goes for any other game they have made a too many of.

If you want a more 'old school' mega man feel, as much as you can have from current gen games, I can recommend the Megaman Zero series (GBA), Megaman ZX and Megaman ZX Advent (DS). It's sidescrolling enemy slaughtering fun. The Zero games, obviously, star Zero. So you're replacing your Buster with a Z-Saber.

I played them and they did have Sidescrolling goodness but what I was saying was that the core series completely changed base

In Aria of Sorrow, Soma Cruz did something no Belmont had done before... found a way to destroy Castlevania's heart so that it would never be revived. Then Konami released Dawn of Sorrow...

yeah well Aria/Dawn of sorrow was in the future there is enough time to create some stories with Dracula ressurecting freaks. And Castlevania games are never terrible.

I'm not going to debate on whether Guitar Hero/Rock Band/GTA should be put to rest, but I have to agree with you on Metroid and Halo. Although, honestly, I think Halo Wars will probably hurt the series. The FPSers and the RTSers don't usually cross.

Honestly, a series never needs to be put to rest if it sells. If people are still buying it, of course you should keep remaking it.

Pokemon. You played one you have play them all. I was never a fan of pokemon to begin with but I played the earlier games just to see what the big deal was. I was not impressed to say the least, and I played all the way up to gold and still not impressed. The new games are generally the same from what I have seen, the only difference be MORE pokemon...way to sell your game. Just stop now or actually do something with the series instead of a constant rehash.

Halo: Seriously, I love the series, but now that Halo Wars is coming out, I don't think that's a good sign for the series. It could be microsoft's Mario, where they pump shit with the word Halo on it. (I don't Hate mario) It's the Paris Hilton of video game franchises now that i think of it. Everything its done has been done before, and to better degrees.
Crash Bandicoot: Please God... Crash of the Titans was so fucking horrible. How did they manage to take a formula that worked so well, and screw it over? There is no excuse whatsoever.
Spyro: All hope is lost. Just please end it.
EA Sports titles: No rational person will ever buy these games ever. All they are is just shovelware. That's the long and short of it. They've been released now for twenty fucking times, and it won't end. If that's the case:

I don't see any reason why the Metroid series should be put to an end... Although Metroid Fusion seems like what could possibly the very end of the series, and everything else is just games that take place between the very first Metroid and it.

I can't really think of games that need to end... except the DBZ series.
