Seriously... is ANYBODY really using Playstation HOME?!

I was watching one of those free downloadable videos on the PSN today called "Pulse" or whatever that talks about all the stuff Sony wants to sell you this month, when a segment came on talking about the new "exciting" items in Home. Apparently there are some new furniture items, and a new Mansion with a Tiger that greets your friends when they visit, a swimming pool, and some other stuff.

What shocked me about this is that I had assume "Home" had imploded into the Netherworld, never to be seen or heard from again every since it's abysmal, epic failure of the highest order.
(For those of you who don't know what Home is, think of a Sony version of Second Life where you create an avatar and walk around in a virtual shopping mall looking at previews for movies and games to buy from Sony, while making microtransactions a la Farmville for stuff for your avatar or your avatar's home with REAL money for useless, functionless items, all the while being harassed by 10 year old ass-clowns wearing Frosty the Snowman heads and pop-locking their ways into your "kill" book.)

I honestly thought Home was dead. Everybody, I mean EVERYBODY I've literally ever encountered that either OWNS a ps3, OWNED a ps3, or knows someone who owns a PS3 took ONE look at Home, spent about 15 minutes laughing at the stupidity of it all, and subsequently kicked it to the farthest depths of their gaming memory to languish forever with the N-gage, Virtual Boy, and those weird "3D" glasses for the Sega master-system.

So does anyone ACTUALLY still use Home? I mean, not just peeks in there from time to time, but actually is an AVID user, utilizing it's social community, perks, and buying items? If so, WHY?

I jumped into Home for the first time in a looong while. There are still tons of people running around, so yeah, people use it. People are buying digital items, and using the place as a digital chat room or gathering hall. It's used, even if it's not what you'd use it for. :)

I had no idea there was a community still using this. Is there voice chat still? I remember they had voice chat set up so if you were in proximity to another character, you could hear them talking.
It lasted all of like two days before it was taken offline, due to abuse.
I'm TEMPTED to take a look at it again, but I remember the ABYSMAL load screens.. transferring between each "area" was a pain in the butt, everything was ALWAYS being used with long lines in front of it, and I am NOT going to pay REAL money for VIRTUAL gear. I have NEVER bought anything for my xbox 360 avatar and I never will.

However, it would be nice if a lot of the stuff for avatars were obtainable by accomplishing trophies or whatever. I think both Microsoft and Sony missed the boat on that one.

I did, but I always tend to attract stalkers. It got really boring and when I got my new PS3 I didn't download it again. :|

Actually there are avatar awards on the 360, e.g if you complete all the campaigns on expert in L4D2 or something like that you get Ellis' shirt for your avatar etc. So Microsoft didn't miss the boat.

OT: I don't because I don't have a PS3

I downloaded it and used it once to create a pedophile looking dude, all in all, it was stupid and a potential waste of money.

I was in the Home beta, I used it for all of maybe 15 minutes because it's so stupid. Well, I also think things like Facebook and MySpace are stupid too. The game setup in Home was stupid; in the mall, there can only be as many chess games as chess boards. You literally have to wait for people to finish playing to play chess. Why can't the chess boards just represent the ability to play chess? Walk up to a chess board and you can browse though all the games going on and be able to join one or create your game and wait for someone to join you. I deleted Home way back during the beta because it "reserves" like 2 or 3 gigs, it actually doesn't even use that much space. Lastly, there's like no reason to go on Home, I can be having a better time playing a game or watching a movie or TV show on my PS3 than walking around in Home. Therefore, Home is rather useless.

I'd forgotten that that thing existed, so when I saw this thread I was like "Playstation HOME? What?" And I'm still a little fuzzy on it. In any event, I don't have a PS3 so no, I don't use it. Not that I would if I did.

I used HOME once. Then I found it was a horrid attempt at being Second Life.

Close to nothing is free, and it's really boring.

I tried it once. walked around, met someone i knew, got halfway through a chess game (i was winning, but it was hard to see what was going on with the pieces). I tried to go into shops. I then quit and deleted it. If i had to rate it i would give it 1/100. The 1 is for trying.

There're quite a few, most big recent games have them [Fable III, Red Dead Redemption for example] you should check your "awards" tab either within avatar settings page, or on the far left of the guide.

I used it when it started, I forgot about it and haven't used it in many, many months. There's just not much point in using it.

HOME is an interesting application with horrendous application of the application (if that makes any sense at all). It's not something you're supposed to spend hours of your day on, just something you play with every now and again to check up on what's going on.

Unfortunately, HOME is still plagued with some problems that have yet to be fixed, and is it even out of "beta" yet? You have to download every. single. damn. room. and whenever there's an update you have to do it again. This horribly restricts the HOME world and just makes it seem artificial.

I'm sure there are plenty of people who still use HOME, but personally I haven't used it for months. And this is coming from a self proclaimed Sony fanboy here, supposedly #1, and even I think that HOME was a waste of potential.
