When I had a Ps3, I used it once for like 15 min and after that got bored, but playing the flying saucers was fun lol.

I use it now and then. The games are pretty fun- and most of them are free -and it's a nice little stress-break to enjoy now and then. Yeah, it's not as polished as a full-sized game, but hell, the basic element of just USING it is a free bonus for having a PS3 and online access. I don't see why it seems to inspire such loathing. If it's not your cup of tea, one assumes you have some full-sized games on your shelf you can enjoy instead.

Tried it for a bit, but it was kind of stupid. The games at the carnival were okay, but most people just weren't talking, unless they were hitting on female avatars, most of whom were likely dudes.

HOME is an interesting application with horrendous application of the application (if that makes any sense at all). It's not something you're supposed to spend hours of your day on, just something you play with every now and again to check up on what's going on.

Unfortunately, HOME is still plagued with some problems that have yet to be fixed, and is it even out of "beta" yet? You have to download every. single. damn. room. and whenever there's an update you have to do it again. This horribly restricts the HOME world and just makes it seem artificial.

I'm sure there are plenty of people who still use HOME, but personally I haven't used it for months. And this is coming from a self proclaimed Sony fanboy here, supposedly #1, and even I think that HOME was a waste of potential.
Now that I think of it, I think you and I have been on this ground before way back when the "beta" came out. You're still on my PSN friend's list I think lol although I haven't seen you in a coon's age.

Thing is, I guess Home is on the GT5 development plan... in that it'll be usable and functional and released in about another 7 years.

But what you mentioned is EXACTLY why I bailed on it. Even moving into different sections of my own HOUSE required a minute or MORE of downloading! That was ridiculous. Finding friends was an exercise in futility, because I think they have the game sharded on different servers and I could never find my friends. I seriously believe people were purposely PARKING themselves on the games or chess boards (just staying in the game and walking away, not even there playing) and waiting in LINE to play virtual chess that had no "time limit" for the current players was stupid. It wasn't like it was "one game per person per hour" or something, you could literally sit there and play and play and the line would have to sit and wait until you got tired of being an ass.

As I stated in my opening, I saw a video showcasing a new "mansion" you can buy and decorate and I was thinking... why would I buy non-functional furniture/items for my house I can't use? If they had copied sims online where it made all the items usable in some way, like minigames, then they'd have had something. Also, what ever happened to the "TV" functionality, where I could invite friends over to the virtual house and they could watch whatever blue ray movie I was playing on my virtual "tv"?

I just fail to understand what the purpose of Home was supposed to be? If it was for marketing purposes, it's quite an expansive (and expensive) way to get people to check out videos and demos. The "locations" from video games thing (like the guy's bar from Uncharted) was a cool idea, but went ultimately wasted since once you got there, you could look around, but couldn't do anything. If you could climb around and explore with your avatar like in the actual game, that would have been a great way to advertise. If you could compete in little games to win stuff for your avatar, even better.
Instead, you walk into a 'showcase' room, look around, and instantly regretted the five to ten minutes it took to "download" the space.

I feel as if Sony wasted an amazing opportunity here by going for the "microtransaction" throat too greedily, too fast, and two they didn't apparently approach their game developers to get them involved and make the concept the best. Microsoft also kinda dropped out on this, because I remember a long time ago their plans for allowing you to use your avatar in little free minigames you could play online with your friends. Like golf. Never saw that pan out, although I have seen some games like that you can BUY.

I just don't know why companies sink such resources into these things if they weren't going to properly invest in them or utilize them to their maximum.

Games? Maybe this is worth a second look. I remember a couple trial versions of like icebreaker and echochrome and the chess and flying saucers, but that was pretty much it? The bowling I never got a chance to play because EVERYONE was always on them.

What else do they have?

Messed around with when I preordered the Scott Pilgrim game but only because it came with the free shirt. Haven't been back since as I don't use my PS3 for socializing :p

Here and there. I like to find glitches that make me walk high up into the air and stuff, for laughs.

I accessed it briefly when I got my PS3. There was nothing there that I liked and plenty that I hated so I never went back.

I checked it out for about 10 minutes. The most entertainment I got out of it was running up to a "hot girl" avatar that was attracting a lot of guys and running around "her" with a word bubble that said "SHE'S A DUDE" before leaving. I have not so much as thought about it since.

Depends on where you go to. Carnival games, mini-golf, space shooters, hover-tanks, trivia games, a wide array of poker options... seriously, if you've got a PS3 and an internet connection, go on over and take a look around. Mind you, the carnival is sort of a weird example; some games open up for brief free plays to allow for a shot at them, but most of the time if you want to enjoy them, you'll be plunking down a few bucks for a bunch of tickets to play them. Sort of like a real carnival in that sense. But hell, for about $2 I got a few hours of fun out of the whole mess and scored some interesting Home swag.

If you want free goodies, go to the Irem matsuri area for an array of random shirts, outfits, masks, etc, etc. You can also play a few Japanese carnival games while there, and those games are free. Actually, you can get free goodies from a lot of places, in particular places with games, since those tend to be the rewards for not-sucking. You don't need to shell out rapid-fire to have a good time in Home, but fair warning, it's NOT intended for you to sit there and waste months on end in. It's more like a fun collection of different realms and mini-games. But there are worse ways to kill some time, and given I can access it for free anytime I want, I just don't get why folks spaz out so hard about it.

I did, but I always tend to attract stalkers.
I am reminded of the woman who tried to sue for rape when someone used of the crouch emote behind her. Ahhhhhhhhh...... good times.

OT:
As a 360 owner, I cannot say what the status of home is, but from what I have seen it looks like something that I would want on the X-BOX

That's a pretty big way of saying "HOME had potential, but Sony fucked it up!" :p

And I'm still on my PS3, I've just been on my PC most of the time with Mass Effect. I haven't seen you around in a cat's life either, har-d-har.

Actually there are avatar awards on the 360, e.g if you complete all the campaigns on expert in L4D2 or something like that you get Ellis' shirt for your avatar etc. So Microsoft didn't miss the boat.

OT: I don't because I don't have a PS3
I had no idea! What other games did this on the 360, do you know?
I know some other people have already said some, but Halo Reach had you unlock the SPARTAN helmets and armor for your avatar for getting certain medals in multiplayer, getting achievements, and completing the campaign on certain difficulties.

You mean Halo 3. Halo Reach you have to buy them with credits that you earn when you play multiplayer and do certain challenges, or you unlock them using Halo Waypoint by getting achievements and unlocking certain milestones.

I used to use when it first came out, but after a few weeks it became really boring and pointless, so I stopped using it.
