Every time I hear this I just think oh god not another one as the BBC news once again, without fail, claims that this time shits going to hit the fan.

Tl:dr At the bottom.

I am of course talking about their reports on weather and how we are all going to die.(I know that's a bit melodramatic but hey, they started it.)

According to this, the police are telling people to stay indoors unless it's an emergency.

They also report that "In north-east England, 35cm (14in) fell overnight."
And that "Scotland could get a further 15cm (6in) on Saturday, with more also likely in other areas, especially Northern Ireland and south-east England."

They then go on to talk about some airports closing and how this is the "Earliest widespread snowfall for 17 years and forecasters say it could last for two weeks."

Now I am not surprised by this at all, it happens every year, and I don't know why the BBC news keeps on reporting the snowfall this way every year.

Then they talk about treacherous conditions balh blah blah... It's as if they're an old woman telling a child not to go out or Jack frost will get you.

Tl:dr Are you tired of them reporting it this way? And do you think that people still believe them after all these years? Also to our American brothers how does the news report snowfall over there?

i hope they're right...mostly. where i am there was pretty much no snow last year. it snowed for about 10 minutes one day and that was it. it SUCKED. granted it caused havoc on the roads and stuff but they seem to be preparing for it a bit more this year so bring on the snow

It's part of British culture to over react and shut everything down when a centimetre of snow falls. I don't want that changed at all, it's funny.
Our school was closed because only 7 teachers turned up. The rest stayed at home over an inch of snow. British culture! Wooo!

I'm just wishing it'll snow in Aussie, its bloody hot here now.

And they over react a whole lot. I think most folks know not to really trust weather forcasts anymore anyway.

The best thing about 1cm of snow is waking up to all the facebook statuses which say SNOW!!!!

I like snow, no matter how much. Hopefully the football match will still be on today :)

Of course the snow is still dangerous, and British people aren't used to it because it barely ever happens (especially me on the coast) so that's why it is a severe weather warning, because the weather we have now is the most severe we will get.

You have just got to remember the ice on the roads and stuff like that.

I want some snow to fall here in NW. Its been ages since we had anything more than 2cm. Last year was awesome when it snowed.

[Edit]
About the overreaction of British news.. Remeber foot and mouth, bird flu and swine flu!

I remember at our school when the Headteacher said that the school will do it's best to stay open so we can keep coming to lessons and learn. You could feel the descent of every pupil's mood that day.

The problem is that people use snow as an excuse to be lazy; I would not be surprised that if on Monday it's still snowing there will be a HUGE increase in the number of children off school and the number of people not in work, for that sole reason.

Are the BBC contributing to this? I don't think so. I think that the Met Office and the BBC genuinely mean well - it IS dangerous out there and it IS safer just to stay indoors. There will almost certainly be an increase in police callouts due to idiocy and due to the conditions it's not going to be as easy to deal with them. That's what they need to try and avoid.

Shhh, don't let anyone catch on we're 'over reacting' to have an excuse to play in the snow rather than do anything productive. ;D

... if it'll snow at all, that is.

Urgh can't they at least think of a new word that's all they ever said last time

I love Charlie Brooker, he's one of my favorite comedians and he raises some really good points.
Also yes, I wish they came up with a different word as well like Deadly, Dangeous or mildly annoying but over all alot of fun and a good laugh with your mates.

It can snow all it wants, I get free days off work, paid, seeing as all the key-holders to the store can't get in to open the store if there's enough snow
