Snow snow snow snow.
Oh how I love snow.
Mainly because the country completely falls apart after an hour of snow. But also because I can do this:

What the heck? Some snow comes and yer all over it in the news? Hell, we Norwegians first start commenting on the weather once it starts breaking some records! (Which happened a lot all over our country lately because of some wind comin from up north or from Siberia or something). Hell, our MAILMEN keep delivering our mail even in a FREAKIN' -43,5 degrees Celcius (now THAT is cold), and you don't see 'em complaining! (actually read that interview today in the newspaper about a mailman who didn't think it was cold back then, and had a cellphone picture of his dashboard that the newspaper published).
To be fair, this is the earliest snow fall in 17 years here in Britain. Also your country is slightly more north than us. So nobody is surprised that a country nearer a pole gets colder ;)

had a bit of snow overnight, but nothing like the extreme stuff they are talking about there, and it's barely snowed all day.

However, I'm stuck at uni doing a Maya workshop ALL FUCKING WEEKEND, 10-7 - not impressed at missing the first (and best) early snow I can almost remember!

Cycling home in the dark, as the melt freezes, is gonna be fun... ^_^

I live in England. And I was out in the snow on my motorbike yesterday.

Don't think they're getting to me!

EDIT: Also remember that England is constantly warmed by the Gulf Stream from Mexico, all year round. We don't do extreme weather; the cold is tempered by the heat from the stream and the warm is tempered by the cooling effect of being surrounded by water. The extremes of temperature that are inherent in other countries (from latitudes or geography such as mountains or barren flats) seldom apply to us, so we get all comfortable in our temperate clime. Then the shit hits the fan and we're not prepared. No snowplough crews, very little grit (we used it all last year!) and no concept of the Scandinavian model of kitting our cars out with winter tyres and chains and just getting on with it.

The government haven't a clue why it gets so scary at low temperatures, where they grit the roads to melt the snow, then it refreezes and we get black ice instead of the grippy snow.

It's part of British culture to over react and shut everything down when a centimetre of snow falls. I don't want that changed at all, it's funny.
Seconded - it got me on the news before as a kid...mind you that was like a foot of snow though.

But yeah mega over dramatisation of saying "there's going to be a 10day straight cold snap" - so far we've had a few hours over night resulting in one inch of snow.

[dull sarcastic voice] Oh god we're screwed! [/dsv]

We've got, oh I don't know, 2-3 feet of snow where I'm at.
And its supposedly going to be the harshest winter in 70 years...

It's just an unspoken rule. Since Britain gets among the fewest public holidays in europe we make up for it by taking the day off everytime it snows.

You think you guys over react?
Pretty much all of eastern Massachussetts had a snowday where it didn't snow at all.
We like to call it "Snowless Snowday Wednesday".

Also to our American brothers how does the news report snowfall over there?

Depends on what state you're in. What region of certain states also changes people's attitudes on snow. If you're from a warmer state like Alabama and get barely anything people will still panic and stay home. If you're from a more moderate state like Maryland then schools often get shut down but more because we get a hideous amount of black ice every winter. This is mostly due to our states habit of going from freezing in the morning to moderately warm in the evening to freezing again. If you're from a really Northern state they won't really give a damn. In some places even if the snow can cover your front door.

last year i was just grateful for snow where i lived, its pretty rare thing. however when i went back to uni being snowed in for over a week wasnt fun, especially since i had no working computer and essays to write. But still my life was never in danger, just my education.

Where i live we get snow but I don't remember any weather warnings.
Right now in my opinion there's quite a lot of snow outside. Not in a "we're in Norway!" way, but still quite a lot. it fell in the last 2-3 days. It's quite lovely and fluffy, since it's very fresh. I don't really know how MUCH snow has fallen.

But I have noticed that in the recent years there has been more and more snow...climate changes or just randomness? Hell if i know.

Also, i live in a country that's basically on the same line as Scotland. Of course, Scotland( and the whole island it's on) is right next to a ocean, so that makes the weather quite different. And since we're directly south of Finland, we get all of the snow they don't need- for free! But seriously, i consider my country to be a North-Eastern European country.
