He shook his head. "It's not your offense to apologize for, Seiya Sempai. His treatment of those two students was unnecessary. He had no reason to be so harsh."

He frowned terribly at the thought of the class. He didn't want to be rude to Seiya, but he was upset that she'd allowed that to continue. He understood there wasn't much she could do against the president, but they way it'd been handled still upset him greatly.

"That isn't it," she said, looking down at her desk, "If Mori-sama doesn't behave that way, everything becomes unraveled. It may have seemed disproportionate, but I doubt you'll see another student slap a classmate." Hikaru tangled her hands in the fabric of her skirt. "The reports prove it. Mori-sama knows what he's doing."

-------

Eber chuckled, flopping down on the couch and overtaking it with his tall frame. "Is he truly always this way? I will do it, if no one else will. I am not afraid of him; he is barely even older than the two of us." He kicked off his shoes and folded his arms under his head, looking up at him with a content smile, "But how was your afternoon?"

"Just try not to get in too much trouble, ok?" he absentmindedly took up Eber's shoes and placed them into the shoe cubby. "Oh, hmm...I ran into Yamada-senpai. Have you heard of him? He's pretty good with a traditional spear. After that I pretty much came straight back here to cook. I still have a few things to finish making and what smells so much like chemical?" his nose twitched.

"Or he figured out how to be terrible to the students and get away with it." He was surprised at his own words and found himself staring ashamed down at his hands. "I apologize, Seiya Sempai. That was out of line. What I meant was I have a difficult time buying into that entirely when this sort of "discipline" seems to please him so greatly."

He wasn't sure if that was enough and didn't want to see her upset with him, so he tried his best to come up with something that wasn't going to sound the way he thought it, because that was going to upset her more.

"I had a word with them both after the two of you left. They had started another argument almost immediately, but I'm fairly certain after our simple discussion it isn't going to happen again." He thought about the two students a moment. "At least not on school grounds."

She looked at him with a mixture of sympathy and exasperation. "Ah, so you believe you resolved the situation yourself--clearly it had nothing to do with Mori-sama's efforts. Is that what you're telling me, Yamada-san?"

-------

"I spent all day cleaning. Remember?" He lifted an arm to sniff at himself curiously and made a face, grimacing. "I suppose it is rather unpleasant..." Eber shrugged, returning to lounging, "Well, I am not going to take two baths. Ah... I may go and try to sort through the homework, though."

"You haven't already done it?" he bopped himself on the head. "Right! Cleaning all day. Do you think you can get it all done before school tomorrow?" he took a seat in a chair in front of Eber. "D-do you need help? I know I don't look it, but I think I can be of help. I take good notes and stuff." he muttered.

He bowed his head, ashamed that he'd been so rude. "No...No, you're right. He did bring awareness to the students and intimidate others from following in their misguided footsteps. I'm apologize for being so rude."

He still didn't agree with the other man, but he supposed he had to give him that much. He didn't get the position for nothing he supposed, but he wasn't sure, even now, what did get it for him.

Isoroku tried to make a solid effort at his homework, but had a great deal of trouble making headway. He couldn't understand why he was so unmotivated-- after all, he now knew that he only had to make it through a few more days of this. He should have been extra motivated to keep his grades very high in order to avoid suspicion. How hard was it, really, to ace your homework for a few nights, provided you had the time to put into it?

Nevertheless, an hour after beginning he'd left his homework on the desk and was lying on his bed reading a novel, thoughts of his schoolwork forgotten. It wasn't until much later that he realized he should get back to it.

As he frowned down at a group of math problems, he realized that what he said about Yamada earlier was true-- the boy had ambition and the ability to work hard, but, so far as Isoroku was concerned, he was no genius. Isoroku realized now that he was the opposite-- he considered himself extremely intelligent, and yet he totally lacked the drive that Yamada possessed. Oh, he still had drive of a kind, of course... it was hard work that seemed to present the problem. In a way, it was an even bigger hindrance to success than would have been a lack of intelligence.

He sighed and half-halfheartedly tried a few of the math problems, struggling to recall whether one should multiply before or after one divided. It did not matter, really. A few more days, and everything would be back to normal.

Kojiro placed all the clippings about the murders into his bag. He was mortified about how the students had either died or received injuries that resulted in death later. He definitely needed to go over with Junsui and Isoroku the idea of bringing something to protect themselves.

But for now he had homework to do! He pulled out first assignment and set to work. It was always easy at first, but as he got into the more complicated questions and problems he realized it took him longer and longer to get done. When he finally finished he sighed at how long it had taken him. He needed to keep his grades up to be on the Kendo team and, he shuddered, to keep Mori from jumping down his throat.

Kojiro leaned back in his chair and rubbed his neck, but his new buddies were number one and number three in the junior class...perhaps he could suggest to them that from now on they should all do their homework together in the library? That sounded like a good idea.

He packed up his homework, and set to work making himself lunch and breakfast for tomorrow. He wanted to get to class early to talk to the others. He could only hope they did the same. When everything was done, he crawled into bed.

His mind lingered on the train that was waiting for him tomorrow night.

Hikaru softened at the boy's expression, adding an apologetic note to her voice, "Yamada... If you really want to make a difference, you should attend the Student Council meetings. After all, you've been invited. Maybe you'll understand him better once you see the ways we're permitted to operate." She paused, but continued, deciding she was unable to let the topic drop without clarifying her opinion, "I know that deep down, Mori-sama only wants the best for Akaito, to help it reach the high standards of the prefecture. If he loses his temper, or makes a mistake... Well, that's no different than anyone else. You must think I'm weak for not controlling him..." She blushed, embarrassed of her own strong words, "And I think you're weak for not standing up for your friends when it mattered."

---------

"Why would you say you do not look it?" Eber shrugged, not appearing concerned over the assignment, "I do not usually put much effort into the papers, and yet I do all right in grades. It is only the first, besides. But, if you are worried about it, I will get my books." He sat up with a sigh and folded his hands in his lap. It might not be bad to have such a talented friend to help with schoolwork--but so much for making every night Movie Night.

Something in Yamada's chest uncomfortably tightened at her words, because he'd been disappointed in himself for that as well. She was also correct that he did think her weak for not having any sort of control on the matter when she was in a position to do something. "Yes. You're right Seiya Sempai. I'll try harder to understand him and take care of the students in my class."

His voice had been a bit hard, terse. He hadn't expected to feel this way over anything. He was guilty, but angry, and didn't want this girl to think the worst of him. There was always the option to try harder and that's just what he intended to do.

"I will be attending the Student Council meetings from now forward. I hope to make y-Akaito proud." He got his materials ready at that and hoped the class was going to start soon so that he didn't further embarrass himself or stare at her blushing face.

Hikaru's lips pursed and she did the same. The lesson began shortly after but she found herself distracted by Yamada's words. It wasn't that she didn't want to keep Takuya from behaving the way he did, she simply couldn't. His will was too strong--and she'd been telling the truth when she said the reports proved it. Akaito had never been so successful, and was receiving extra funds because of it. Besides... She worked as hard as she did because she managed most of the Council herself. She doubted Takuya would make himself known to the students again unless there was another incident that broke his strict code of conduct.

Tomorrow, for example, would be a wonderful day. She'd planned Club Rush to be festival-like, and each club's booth would be running a related game to garner attention. One may not be an all-star on the soccer field, but that didn't mean they couldn't try to kick a ball through a hole in a cardboard cat. Takuya had said it was childish, but had allowed it.

She eventually had spaced out one hundred percent, doodling tiny pandas on her notes.

Rin smiled lightly as she finished up her homework for the night. It'd proven a bit challenging at some points, but she felt she had done well on most of it. She put her work back in her bag so it would be ready in the morning. She stood up from her desk and raised her arms above her head, stretching for a moment. She wondered how things would go at lunch tomorrow with Yoshida and Ishikawa. She pushed the feelings of nervousness out of her mind, and pushed her chair back up to her desk. Even if she was nervous about it, she knew she should at least try to make it work. Giving a quick nod to herself, she decided to make her lunch for tomorrow and get to bed a little early tonight.

Akinari nodded. It was always best to get homework done quickly. "If we both work on it together, it'll get done twice as fast." he beamed brightly. "It's no fun to work through the night on papers. It should free up some time." he tapped his chin in thought, wondering what to start on first.

He still had to cook, but he could always finish the rest of it in the morning.

Yamada threw himself into the lecture, not paying attention to anything else. He was flying through his notes not wanting to do only better. He was planning to get his Sojutsu club rush preparation completed, his assignments for the next few days finished, make his lunch, and get up early to go running in the morning, possibly with the foreigner he'd seen that morning.

He didn't pay much mind to Seiya after that, or did his best not to. He was determined not to consider what she said, but when there was a lull in the lecture he found he couldn't help it. She'd been right on a few points, but he was sure there were many students better suited for presidency than Mori. He still believed the other boy's extreme ways were going to get him and the school in trouble.

Isoroku finished his homework, though he had dubious feelings as to its quality. He managed to beat curfew by a few minutes as he ran to a convenience store and bought some prepared food for lunch the next day, and upon returning he locked up the room, disrobed, and got back into bed with the novel. Eventually, he fell asleep that way.

When the lesson came to a close, Hikaru stood up and gathered her things. She hesitated a moment, having wanted to offer him a ride home as penance for failing to earlier. He didn't seem up to the idea. She left the building and returned to the dorms.

"Bahhhhh... All right," Eber stood and dragged his feet as he walked aound the sofa to fetch his bookbag from where he'd tossed it earlier. He brought it back and sat down on the floor at his feet, "Let me see... Something about plant reproduction in Biology... and some algebra. What was the literature?"

"Oh don't make that face!", he waggled his finger. "We have to get this done quickly so we'll both have energy for the morning run." he started to point out notes and general patterns for figuring out the problems. He wrote some notes down on Eber's notes. "Does any of this make sense? I've never actually...helped anyone, so I don't think I'm too great in the explaining department." he scratched his head.

Eber would've given him an extremely encouraging answer; would've, if he hadn't been completely asleep by the time the boy actually looked.

Akinari gave Eber a gentle shake, finding that he was passed the point of waking up he pat him on the back. He hurried back to his room, grabbed the nearest blanket and brought it back down to the common room. He was unable to lift Eber to take him to his room, so he simply nudged him it he plopped over on the couch and tucked the character blanket on the slumbering boy. He then returned to his room for much needed rest.
