Eber shifted out from under Kumiko to reach into the front to attempt the glovebox; it was locked, that that was hardly a deterrent for the German. A little fiddling and the little door popped open. There were papers inside: insurance, vehicle registration, a couple of fines for speeding in excess.
And a handgun.
"Someone is quite cautious... Damn. I was hoping they would leave behind one of those earpieces they wear..."
Ishikawa: You, on the other hand, open the trunk. And you find more computer equipment than you'd expect to find on an F.B.I. stakeout.
Little characters blink in green on three black screens. One shows a map of the infrastructure of the city, and it is registering the seismic activity in real time. Another shows the web of subway tunnels, and the rooms you found today that are clearly not a part of that system are shown in a separate color. You see that the Pit extends quite deeply into the earth, and on the other end, one appears to be somehow higher than ground level.
The last screen shows a vast network of names and addresses. They appear to be recent deaths across the whole of Japan. As you watch, the names continue to add: name, age, and cause of death, followed by contact information.
You also find more firearms, and an empty box that appears to have held the earpieces.
