I just received a sum of cash, but i'm using most of it, which leaves me with 5 dollars I can use. Question is, should I get TES: Morrowind, which is for sale at steam for 5 dollars? Is it a recommendable game?

Absolutely 100%. It was the game that turned me onto fantasy RPGs. It starts pretty slow but the game WILL reward you if you stick with it. It's certainly in my top 3 favorite games of all time.

Yeah, Morrowind is a great deal of fun, and my sources of the PC version say that it is quite customizable to boot.

Hm, how do I put this... YES!!!!!!

Morrowind is one of the best games out there that you can buy, in my opinion. The game is extremely deep and you could travel its wilderness for ages and still not see it all. There is a lot of interesting lore that is included in the gaming universe as well, as well as many different guilds and organizations that you can join. I also think that it has the best story out of any of TES games so far.

I can't recommend this game enough. If you like reading fantasy epics as well as play them TES: Morrowind is the game for you.

Is it reccomendable?! There is a reason it was called game of the year my friend. If RPG's are your thing, you are in for the ride of your life, while the game may be old, its still considered a classic by many, due to its flawless storytelling, world interaction, and the shear number of things you can do. You could spend a whole year playing that game and still have things to do on it. While the melee combat is a bit clunky, its still a very good game. So if you like your magic, odd races, and a story which is epic in scale, you have found your game.

Yeah, if you're into modding there are so many awesome mods out there that improve the game immensely. They can be a pain to install, but there are helpful guides out there that will show you how to get started.

My favorite mod of all time would have to be The Children of Morrowind mod. It adds that one element that many people have asked for in TES universe: Children. If you don't add any other mod than that you should be all set. =-D

Another thing I love about the game is that almost all of the negative aspects of the game (faces, body builds, etc.) can be fixed with the right mods. I'm not sure if modding on Steam is the same thing as modding if you own the game but I'm sure there's a way.

YES. It is a wonderfully detailed, incredibly huge game, and if it seems like your kind of thing you should definitely check it out, especially for a price as low as 5 dollars.

Definitely one of the best RPGs ever. Get a few texture packs and the Morrowind Graphics Extender to spruce up the graphics and then prepare yourself.

Agreed, I was quite shocked to find that after playing Oblivion quite a bit, I was almost inifitely more impressed at how well Morrowind did things.
Cities are well made and unique.
Maps(or should i say MAP) are large and detailed
Quests are really interesting if you put in the time to find
your way around and familiarize your self before giving up cause you cant
find anything (like i said Maps >>> big) but when people sometimes come flying down (splat)
from the sky for no apparent reason who can complain.

I reckon its well worth the buy as long as you put the
effort in to get past the i-dont-know-what-to-do lump
from the start.

No it's a boring brown world with laughable combat. Granted it has a good story but you move slowly, combat has to be moded or it's just impossible and the interface could not be more user unfriendly if it tried

I got it on steam and it is brilliant, though my brother got it and it dosen't work for him and most mods don't work for the steam morrowind. But it is still a great game. But if you've never played an elder scrolls game then it might be hard to adjust to morrowind's gameplay.

It depends. Its one of those RPGs where you have to grind your skills or else you are completely horrible at combat. It defiantly a huge open world game but the fact is its slow to start with and the skills system makes combat nearly impossible at the beginning. Overall its up to you to say if you're in to really deep RPGs like this.

Honestly, Oblivion is a lot better in many ways, but Morrowind does have a fairly novel setting that makes it worthy enough of a spin.

I have been doing nothing but play Morrowind since summer started. I own Oblivion- but I choose to play Morrowind as it is, in my opinion, the best RPG ever made.

That's not to say that there aren't advantages to Oblivion, or some other RPGs. The gameplay of Morrowind is a bit outdated and the graphics are very much so. However, especially with the computer version which allows player made mods, it still easily outmatches anything else around.

edit-

I have nothing morally against pirating, but considering the quality of the product I urge you to, in this case, pay for it. If not, that's your choice, but I don't understand why so many people are saying you should pirate something so worthy of paying for it. Especially if its just $5. I picked it up for $40 after Oblivion had already been released and have never regretted that price. Make sure to get Tribunal and Bloodmoon though.

I would suggest downloading a few mods that make the combat a bit more like Oblivion though. I use Morrowind Combat Enhanced as well as a Full Attack mod (makes it so that when you hit somebody it actually hits them, and when they hit you it does the same). They even out the combat for low levels while not making it too difficult for high levels.

Ha! This very question was running through my mind as I held it in my hands at EB just yesterday. I'd heard a ton of great things about it, and I was looking for a good fantasy game to relax and explore... It was only ten bucks, but I ended up not getting it. I was a bit poor at the time :(
