I just got asked by my parents if I want to move to Australia.
My dad has a job opportunity there.
Is that a good idea?
I really don't know because as much as I'd love to move there, I'd be leaving my friends behind etc and one man stands in my way....
Michael Atkinson!
EDIT: Just to clarify, I live in Scotland just now so I'd probably explode from the temperature differential alone
EDIT2: I'd be moving to Perth for those who were asking
I've lived in Perth my entire life. What do you want to know? Post or PM any questions.

I live in perth and I hate it with a fiery passion, but most people who move here from somewhere else kinda like it. The main problem with it is there's nothing here. No local pubs, no nightlife, expensive booze, short shopping hours (the entire state shuts down at 5pm, nothing opens. worse on weekends. and even restaurants stop taking orders at 9), no arts/culture, fairly limited (but not non-existant) long-term career opportunities outside of mining, trades, and hospitality, almost no tourist attractions, no r-rated video games...
essentially a boring place, but if you're the sort of person who goes home every day after work/school and spends it inside with your family and a small group of friends and is happy to do that until you die (a majority of the worlds population as it turns out), then it's a good place to do it.
This post here has something to it. I'd contend that it's a little dramatic, but there's a lot or truth to it. Let me play devil's advocate though.
Firstly, people who move here generally do seem to like it. Sometimes I wonder how since I agree it's a little boring, but perhaps there's something to this place that I take for granted, like oxygen.
There is nightlife, but it's confined to a region just a few blocks north of the city (which, thanks to terrible city planning which has only in the last few years been made
irreversible, those dumb f***ing F***ERS is only about a dozen blocks long and
four f***ing blocks wide *fumes*) called Northbridge. That's where you'll go for clubbing. There's one casino. Pubs are dotted around the (vast) suburban areas. In short, nightlife is lacking compared to any major city, but it's there.
The shopping hours are a little more complicated now. Yes, we mostly close at 5. However, this isn't true for the city, and the state government is changing that. After a failed referendum to lengthen shopping hours, the government is now introducing it "by stealth". A few suburbs around the city (including mine!) have had their hours extended; and more are planned.
Our beaches are quite lovely. Perth isn't well known compared to "The Gold Coast" but it's just as good.
Few tourist attractions, except the fake ones successive governments have been setting up along the river. Ignore them.
We are the most isolated capital city in the world. This means there's no quick visits to Melbourne for a change of scenery (unless you've got the cash for that).
No R-rated games, but it's really overstated on these forums. I possess an uncensored copy of L4D2 which I ordered from overseas for cheaper than in the stores, Michael Atkinson be damned. Most technically 'R' games usually get under the radar as MA. I personally think this is worse for unsuspecting parents and their kiddies than having an R rating, but that's moot for your purposes.
Finally, bear in mind that WA is the boom state of Australia. In economic - and population - growth we lead the country. Yes, Perth is basically a jumped up mining town, but it's only a matter of time (and PROPER URBAN PLANNING YOU F***ERS) before that changes. And if you really don't like it you can always move east once you're out of high school/uni.
And if you're interested in LANs, a friend of mine organises ~30 man 360(/PC) LANs every few months. Just in case you were worried about gaming prospects.
