Actually the STEAM pre-purchuse just seems to have some items for the game and the little promotional game they created to hype it, through which you can unlock a few more items. I haven't seen anything about X-com being added to the bundle, but I haven't looked recently.Robeltu said:I told myself after all the out roar of Aliens that I would stop preordering games and waiting, but the steam prepurchase will most likely come with TF2 items, bioshock and Xcom Enemy Unknown, which if I sold Xcom to my friend would end up with it costing £20. I don't know what to do about it.
Normally the pre order bonuses are shite like you said, but these are very enticing and 2K as a publisher has always released quality products, there are publishers I wouldn't pre order from and some that I wouldn't even buy from *cough* EA *cough*.sanquin said:No. For the love of god no. Don't pre-order. Don't tell the publishers 'it's okay to use shoddy, grey-area business practices' by pre-ordering. Whatever little bonus you get from it is not worth it. And if the game is indeed good, what's the harm in waiting 1 or 2 days longer to buy your game? Or are you really that impatient that you want your games RIGHT NOW DAMMIT!! (Most gamers today seem to have that mentality.)
It could be because they don't have faith in the game or it could be that people are very cautious after recent games about preordering. If people are worried about games not living up to what they are marketed at they will try and use bigger rewards and lower prices to distract the consumer.Rack said:It's a gamble but a pretty good one. The only thing that gives me pause is WHY is it such a good gamble? If they had faith in the game would they really offer so much at so deep a discount so soon?
You get a previous game which you can probably already buy for a few dollars, and some puzzles and ingame items. Only the puzzles sound 'interesting' the rest are pointless pre-order bonuses. And tell me, do you really want to risk the game being bad and you having wasted too much money on it, for just a bunch puzzles? None of the pre-order bonuses really add much to the game as a whole, so I don't see why you would pre-order. Even if it's a company you trust, the way pre-ordering today works is shit. And you continuing to buy any pre-order from any company, tell them that they can continue doing so.Robeltu said:Normally the pre order bonuses are shite like you said, but these are very enticing and 2K as a publisher has always released quality products, there are publishers I wouldn't pre order from and some that I wouldn't even buy from *cough* EA *cough*.
I decided that yes I have been impatient with games and that I was going to stop pre ordering from publishers and developers that I don't 100% trust and try and ignore the bonuses and the discounts.
You can "pre-order" on Steam five minutes before the game unlocks. So just wait for the reviews still. As far as I know the deals always run until the game unlocks.Robeltu said:snip
Actually, this is the greatest idea ever. Didn't Elizabeth turn the Songbird into a poster before..? If from reality to fiction works, then why not the other way around?Otaku World Order said:That might actually be an interesting twist...Th3Ch33s3Cak3 said:inb4 Booker isn't real, and instead was created by the girl so that she could have a sterotypical handsome hero rescue her(she got the idea from books, hence Booker)
OT: Anyway, I don't think so. Never pre-order. You can always buy it at launch day if it gets good reviews.

Still, the whole "smart side" comment is complete arrogant. Is there any argument that you would admit to being on the dumb side of? No, because everyone always thinks that they are right at that there is a smart side (their side). It is just one choice versus another. I can't for the life of me figure out why people can't think for themselves and wait for reviews or people with a huge ego and a youtube account to tell them if a game is good or not.Windcaler said:There isnt a smart side to either side of the debate? No. Im afraid I have to disagree with you. You see by choosing not to gamble on the chance a game will be good youre loosing nothing worthwhile. You can still buy the game later. You can still buy it day 1 if you want to. However the reward for being patient is learning whether your money will be well spent or not. You can make that decision in a variety of ways and reviews are just 1 of them. Personally if I cant play the game at a friends place I watch a lets play/walkthrough and make judgements based on what I see and whether I believe the gameplay suits my personal tastes. Being patient and informing yourself on the product your buying before you buy it is smartAssassin Xaero said:If you are saying the smart side is to not preorder, that is rather arrogant, since there really isn't a smart side on either side. When I preorder games, I'm going to buy the game anyway, so why not just put the money down now? I'm not going to wait for reviews (can't think of a single game where I read a review and decided not to buy it), and my opinion about games usually differs from other people, so what they say usually means nothing.Windcaler said:Ive been saying dont preorder for a long time and giving the same reasons that people are spouting for ACMs fiasco. So Im happy people finally are seeing the smart side of the argument. Hopefully it'll start making people really examine their consumer practices and buy smartlyAssassin Xaero said:This gaming community reminds me of airport security. One guy had a bomb in his shoe, now we all have to take our shoes off. It is a bit ridiculous.
Im unsure why anyone would blindly put their money down on a product they know little to nothing about. It seems like a very irresponsible consumer practice to me. Do you do that with other products like firearms or cars?
