I probably stopped watching around season 12 or so, I can't really remember. It doesn't have a single good joke nowadays though. Doesn't bother me either way, I gave up on simpsons going out with some decency a long time ago. I just imagine new episodes like remakes, made by completely different people. Because, you know, it is...

At any rate, I'm counting down the days to June 10th. Why, you ask? The return of Futurama, that's why.
Is that the new TV series? not more of those direct to dvd movies? If so thats great bring back Dr. Zoidberg.

On a related note to this topic;

CBC, go fuck yourself. Since as long as i can humanly remember The Simpsons came on at 5:00pm and now it's completely been removed from your schedual and replaced by another god damn news hour.

Whilst it isn't at its best, its still;
a)better than a lot of crap sitcoms
b)still got a chance to become a stronger and more relevant show

And whatever you make of its quality, its more consistent than a certain other knockoff...

You know, "canceled" implies a top-down decision that the show sucks and must be terminated. A better word might be "finalized." The last few seasons have definitely not had the same appeal as the first ten (in my opinion anyway), but it keeps on going. The longer something is on the air, the less good it becomes, so why not just give it a rest when the once lovable yellow people still have some appeal left? One last episode, showing them 20 years from now (in a non-scifi setting), how their lives have changed, etc, and give it some closure. I'd say the series deserves at least that much.
Oh, and if Futurama got axed for being slightly less awesome in its later seasons, The Simpsons ought to be as well.

26 new episodes, starting on 6/10/10 on Comedy Central. None of this movie-released-as-episodes crap.

*ahem* WOOPWOOPWOOPWOOP

I am stoked.

I really love the Simpsons, but it's damn tough to argue that it's as good as it was in the 90s. It's still okay, but it lost its luster years ago.

That being said, my biggest argument against canceling is that it removes the last non-Seth McFarlane show on Sunday nights, and I can't stand that idea.

I didn't realize a half an hour show was that much of an inconvenience to your TV consuming life.

Plus, what would replace it?

EDIT: Futurama seems to be the only show I'd think of replacing it with.

Other than that, I don't see why it would raise questions as to why its still on the air if companies are still getting views and making money.

All cartoon television shows starring a dysfunctional family living in suburbia should be axed permanently sometime soon... Because Seth McFarlane has taken advantage of that and RUINED it.

Futurama should be more frequent :D

Personally, I still like and watch The Simpsons, and it's still as funny as it's always been to me.

Although I do get more entertainment out of South Park and Futurama.

what Matt Groening said in the 20th anniversary special

"To the people complaining that the Simpsons aren't as good as they were 15 years ago well... your not as good as you were 15 years ago"

Option 3, with the amendment that I do relatively care about if it's canceled, and I think it should, simply because it's old, past its prime, and has enough seasons to stay fresh-ish to newbies in syndication forever. I bet the last episode could get almost enough viewers as the Super Bowl.

One negative side would be nothing saving us from the MacFarlane parade of mediocrity on Sunday prime time.

stay. Simpsons were actually still funny 2 years ago. now their episodes are sub-par-mediocre. but still better than "the cleveland show". <- cancel that.
