I think it's run its course, and its always disappointing when a well loved show overstays their welcome, even a legendary series like The Simpsons.

I still enjoy the new episodes.

I think that people who like Family Guy (as, for some reason, it is always compared to that show) just haven't ever understood the multi-layered nature of humour on The Simpsons. The more you know, the funnier it's always been; a lot of people might see only part of the hilarity because it's made to be funny for multiple audiences at a time.

Yes, the show got more outrageous with age, but I actually enjoy that change. You have to keep things fresh somehow, and I believe that the show has grown with the times. It hasn't "run its course", because it's still coming up with new material, despite shows like South Park directly accusing it of having "done everything". There are new things to comment on every month, and the show manages to do that without feeling old. Like the funnies in the newspaper, there is something very integral about this show as a home experience, not just in America but in Australia as well.

As far as I'm concerned, there is absolutely no reason not to keep it going. Despite the rampant complaining from people who quite possibly avoid watching it anyway, the show remains very popular and very lucrative business-wise. If Matt Groening or any other critical voice in the making of the show wants to quit, it won't be because he isn't getting the profits he wants. It'll be because they are tired and have worked on the same thing for more than 20 years.

While I respect the OP's opinion as someone who has seen the entire series so far, I believe that he may just be tired of it because he's watched the whole thing rather than objectively seeing a decline in quality. The Simpsons is, in my view, too big to do that and not get jaded. That's why I think it's more suited as a TV show you end up watching because it's on, rather than something you buy the DVD collections for and watch in a binge like Heroes or Lost. It's possible to do it with those shows because they have a plot progression over seasons and ultimately the whole series, something The Simpsons just doesn't have. The whole of Springfield is in a whacky time-warp junction where everyone celebrates Christmas 20 times and doesn't get any older.

So it's a no from me. It shouldn't be cancelled, people should just stop watching if they are bored. There are plenty of other people who will probably take their place.

It is way to lucrative for it to be canceled. Even if they stop making episodes they will be run until the day Sol expands and fries the Earth. Even then aliens will pick up the radio transmissions of the show.

I would like to put my vote as, "Hell yes! Put that SOB out of it's misery, I stopped watching it when it stopped being funny in the middle of the third season."

They should have cut off the Simpsons and kept King of the Hill going.

..Although, I do feel happy King of the Hill ended on the high note that it was on. It makes the show seem all the more refreshing.

I started watching The Simpsons when they debuted in 1989. I was 2 years old. I am now 22 and still love The Simpsons.

Canceled and to be replaced with what, exactly? Another American Idol or Wife Swap-esque time slot?

No thanks. As much as I don't really care for the Simpsons, I'd rather it stay than be replaced by complete trash.
Yeah, I"m tired of all this "Become rich and famous for a year and burn yourself out" sort of tv drama shit we got these days. One show I really gave a damn about was The Colony.

I could never say "cancel The Simpsons". It would feel like a betrayal. That was the only show I watched my entire childhood and almost up until college. It's nowhere near as good as it used to be, but I'd just feel dirty turning on it. It's still leaps and bounds better than Family Guy ever thought of being. And I would still take it over any reality show or any show using a laugh track.

In all honesty, I like the simpsons, sure the episodes haven't been the same, but they are none-the-less entertaining but I constantly have the lingering feeling they are scrapping the bottom of the barrel for ideas for the show and are constantly pulling out new gimmicks to attract ratings, honestly the last episode I liked well was the one with the muslim family, everything since has been just meh, not bad, nor good (the one where lisa tries to find a decent family member, gee that sounds like fun /sarcasm). However, it would just mean one less show and one more seth mcfarlene show, and although I do like his stuff, I started to draw the line at the cleaveland show, I share stewie's sentiments in saying "HE'S GETTING HIS OWN SHOW?", what is the point, cleaveland barely did anything, was only central to all of two episodes, you can make a better case for Joe or quagmire to get a show, and as such The Cleaveland show seems more like Seth McFarlene isn't taking it all too seriously.

or it could be they cancelled King of the hill (and have no intention of airing the remaining 4 episodes) for The Cleaveland Show...

Not as long as it's making money. I still watch it, I don't think it's gotten significantly less funny since the beginning.

I think that it should be canceled when the makers feel that they can no longer make the show.

The last good thing the simpsons ever made was the movie. its time for the final episode, and for Matt Groening to do something better with his talent than futurama.

I think the new Simpson episodes are terrible and look awful. But at this point they will never leave on a high note.
