Game developers shouldn't be censored by gov't. If they want to introduce a baby-killing level it should be on the consumers to choose to support (buy) or not support (dont buy) the product.

Me and my friend often have this discussion, is it morally wrong? Just sick? or SUPER AWESOME!
Tell me what you think.
Because of Freedom of Speech, yes.

No other reason.

It can be used effectively to make a sad situation even sadder so yes. In a game like gta? Yeah sure, why not I don't care, they're not real.

Well were they actually children I would say no. But, lets be realistic here, they are collections of pologons and AI. No different than "adult" NPCs, or a Midget NPC coming to that. I man we don't stop putting black or asian characters in games because it might be offensive to go around only killing them on a racial basis...we have animals that can be killed and skinned in Red Dead Redemption and killing animals is supposedly the first step to serial killerhood...

It's a argument on a fallacy that says that anyone in a game should be excluded from death. The only reason to exclude it is to stop up-roar among people who do not understand games. From that point of view we are probably better off without being able to kill children in games, because there is enough backlash against games as it is...see MW2, GTA (all o' them) etc...etc...

Yes. We should. Saying something's somehow morally wrong with killing fake children in a videogame is also saying that there's something morally wrong with killing anyone in a game. That somehow rampaging through a GTA game makes me a bad person, or 'someone to watch'. Which is bullshit. Complete bullshit.

I don't like to do it, but the option should be there. Nothing rams home the consequences of collateral damage like when a kid strays into the crossfire. I say give the kids guns and let them shoot back. How many people wouldn't be able to beat a level where you face child soldiers? Just an idea for when Infinity ward decides to one-up 'No Russian'.

Why not? I know it seems inhumane but when a game advertives that you can do anything you want, it should let you kill children.

Depends on the game. In wide-open sandboxes like Fallout or Oblivion in which the sheer amount of player freedom is a main selling point then yes, I don't see why not. Is killing this one kid somehow worse than slaughtering the entire population of Rivet City? I don't think it is. Whereas in games with more established characters such as Mass Effect in which the main character has to be a hero, it would have to be a dramatic scene worked into the story, and you could only do it once. Really, you have to trust the developers to be reasonable about it and know when it works for their game and when it doesn't.

In any game where they are children and you can kill whoever you want ,yes.

Why the hell is ok for me to kill every single adult in fallout3, leaving all the children not in that town full of primarily children to die from starvation or super mutants or whatever, but killing all the children directly isn't.

Or, if you're not thinking about it that deeply: Why is it worse to kill a kid than an adult

yes you should if you also can kill the the adults. If a game places children in a war zone just for the press it will get it's a bad choice. But if its like in fallout where you can got nuts inside waht passes for a city in the fututre by all means let me kill children

WOOOOOOO 1000th POST!!!!!!!!!
Anyway, I agree with the people who ask why you would want to. I feel bad if I hit someone with my car on GTA or Saints Row 2... never mind killing a kid...

It used to be I'd think such an act was both evil and despicable. Then I played fallout 2 and 3, got my pockets picked of rather expensive items, and had to put up with VERY irritating little snots that seemed to latch on to cursing the same way most kids do but for none of the same reasons. Now I wish I had the option more often.

Though you'll still never see me harvest a little sister.

Women aren't children and emoticons make you look like an idiot.

Also, why shouldn't you be allowed to make yourself feel guilty?

I think we should be able to. Hell, keeping children out of games entirely to stop you from killing them can ruin the game.

Take the GTA games for instance. Entire cities filled with pedestrians. Young(20+), old, male, female, every race imaginable, but no children? How does Liberty City have not a single child in it? Why are the playgrounds empty and how is the human race surviving? I've killed every person in a 20 mile radius. How will they repopulate?

Children are just small people. If we can kill big ones, why not small ones?

there should be an option in games that is set to not being able to kill children by default but if it's what you really want and feel the game needs you can change it
