Complain about people insulting you for your taste in film: Fair enough.

Complaining about watchmen directly after: lolwut.

You're kinda undermining your point about taste in films being subjective when you start bitching about people liking something you don't.

You do of course realize that you're setting yourself up to have people insult you directly right?

I will say this though kiddo, try not to get worked up when people don't like the same things you do. You're going to run into a lot of that in life. This thread screams of a high level of immaturity on your part. I wouldn't be surprised if you were 13 or somewhere in the neighborhood just based on how you're reacting. And what's watchmen got to do with anything? I couldn't stand it nor transformers equally. But insulting someone else for their taste in movies after you bemoan having the same thing done to you is more than hilariously ironic, it's hypocritical.

I love all the Watchmen fanboys chiming in with "Nuh-uh! Watchmen has a deep and thoughtful/interesting plot so it's totally an amazing film!" when the OP basically just complained about the plot being boring, which is why they didn't like it. I'm not a fan of the Transformer flicks because they spend too much time with human characters and the humor seemed a little too "huh huh, testicles" for my taste, but I also think Watchmen is rather dull and uninteresting.

Whilst I don't really like Transformers it's nice to see someone else who hated Watchmen as much as me.

The movie was boring people, sure it had som plot twists but other than that it was just boring.

When I go to a transformers movie, I want transformers, not 2 hours of Shia Labad actor and his even worse of an actress love interest doing things I don't care about, not to mention he just whined and acted like a general douche in the third movie, does that mean you shouldn't enjoy it? No, it means that I didn't enjoy it, keep on lovin what you love!

I've been told the same thing about my Pro Wrestling fandom...
Again, and Again, and Again and Again...
Each time, the arguments get a little less logical and little more homophobic, oddly enough...
Over the years, I just plain stopped talking about it in public.
The power of Mockery ladies and gentlemen, allowing otherwise average people to get away with being total dicks for no real reason.

The Transformers films are abysmal - if you enjoy them, fine, but people mostly get antsy because it then swings things back into the favour of Summer blockbusters that are mind-numbingly stupid (there are hairs on my arse with more intelligence), when other films have proven they don't need to be.

Films can be fun without people having to tell you to "leave your brain at the door" (or more likely, a full-on lobotomy for those films).

OP has a point. I like the transformers movies because i go to see robots fighting because of some paper thin plot and its what I get every time. Everyone else hates it because it has not plot. Now i'm left here wondering if the plots really that important. If its cool and entertaining i'll watch the crap out of it.

Example? Monster trucks smashing things.

That's what YouTube is for.

These are feature length films. If I'm going to sit down for 90 minutes then I want reasonable back story otherwise it has no meaning. And here we're talking about films more than 2 hours long and instead of a story we're get the US Military butt-slapping eachother for 90 minutes.

If these movies had no plot apart from giant robots come shit explodes I'd almost agree with this idea. But Transformers includes tacked on shitty side plots about Shia Laboufe and his dumb girlfriends and bizarre diversions into hack political drama. Why?

This is what the plots of Transformers movies should be: Bad robots arrive, Good robots come to stop them, some humans help. Done. Easy. Instead Bay tacks on the hackneyed romantic subplot and "maverick vs authority" bullshit that he always does.
When you go to see a transformers film, everyone knows exactly what they're going to get and yet everyone seems surprised. Youtube can have things smashing, sure, but it doesn't beat being in the cinema with your friends watching something on a big screen which actually has production value (even if its value not to your taste)
No-ones surprised. This is Michael Bay.

I'm not railing against people seeing dumb action films, dumb action films are great. But these are BAD dumb action films in need of at least serious editing.

These films could be great. Remember Starship Troopers everybody? Dumb Action Movie. GREAT Dumb Action Movie. Full of self effacing parody and great cinematic CGI. Here we have to wait though an awful teen coming of age movie mixed with retarded political intrigue and banal military posturing (Whereas the military posturing in ST was done with big knowing winks to the camera.) before we can even get to the payoff of fighting with robots.

And then you don't care. You don't care because you never given a quality reason to care for any of these characters. You don't care because it's such a visual mess with little way of telling whats really going on until the end of the scene leaving the viewer to switch off till then.

But then these movies are wildly successful...... So I guess I'm a snob. Or they are successful because of the broad demographic of male idiots that its aimed at. Such a huge number of every male from the age of 5-40 sees these films and there's going to be dumbasses who defend anything I guess.

Have fun with your 'sposions lads. I'm going off to watch 2001: A space Odyssey with it's slow pacing which according to OP is bad film making.

Im with you, I enjoyed Transformers 1 and 3 and yet I have been called:

Wrong, Sheep, Stupid, Childish, Dumb, Not Right, Pathetic

Really, its kinda sad, I watch the movies not for an Inception worthy plot or characters, I watch it for explosions, giant robots, and tits on the hot lady of the movie.

I esspecially liked the third one but I was told I was wrong for deciding that Laserbeak was my new favorite decepticon. Why did I like him? Because he was probobly the one that Transformed the most, killed the most, and had a lot of screen time while while still having a sense of personality.

Plus he just looks fucking awesome.

I don't want to hear the "Go see a youtube video of fire or someone smashing a computer"

Really, thats a pathetic excuse, thats like me telling you that if you wanted to see Toy Story, you should just play with your action figures.

The first one I tought was good because it kept a simple plot for adults while allowing everyone else who knew what was going on to enjoy it as well

The second one was meh-ish. I don't defend this one because I can only actually see 1/3rd of the action in while the rest of whats going on is covered in dust. Also its more implausible.

The third one I liked because it featured what I wanted, more action that I could see along with great effects and some cool new droids. Also less screen time for that 1 foot tall former decepticon. Also Laserbeak.

I quite liked the third transformers movie, because the humans didn't just stand around saying "oh my, giant robots are fighting, how quaint", and then die. They actually help out at the end,
blinding the decepticon [sp?] soldiers with snipers and just being an utter pain in the arse for them. Having said that, squirrel-esque parachuting down to the city? Fuck that.
.

Watchmen was a fantastic movie, and if you didn't like it the first time I would massively recommend giving it a second go. Then you might start to see beyond the surface of the movie.

I just think Megan Fox is a tool.

I'm old enough to remember the cartoons, and I enjoyed the first movie (haven't seen the third yet). That said, not everyone likes the movies, for various reasons. I've heard the "it has no plot argument" and... they're entitled to their opinion, just as you are for saying they're good movies. I don't see how that correlates with age, though; that part of the argument is kind of silly. So... don't listen? People are going to be jerks about everything in life. It happens.

I did like the first Transformers movie, but now they're getting repetitive. However, what the OP is saying is exactly why I don't respect MovieBob as a critic. He insists on insulting a fan base instead of concentrating on a movie's faults. He'll call them stupid for liking a mindless action movie and then turn around and say a movie is great because two hot girls make out or because it has horror when it really just has a lot of jump scares.

Anyway, I get what you're saying OP. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and people should judge a movie and not a fan-base.

btw I'm sure I'm going to end up eating those words sometime in the future when I make a moronic assumption about a fan-base :p

I happened to have invented a fool-proof system when dealing with people like this.

Step 1). Hold hands out in front of you. (to make sure you still have them)
Step 2). Put hands over ears.
Step 3). As loud as you can shout, "lalalalalalalala!"
Step 4). Run away to someplace free of the non-believers.

You're welcome. You are now free to enjoy whatever your heart desires.
That's strangely what over-zealous religious nuts do as well. It must have some credit to it. :D

This is substantial proof that this movie is rubbish.

It reuses footage from an older Michael Bay film.

Plagiarism much?
It's not plagiarism if you reuse your own material.

OT: You like the Transformers films. So what? so does my brother. You are entitled to have your own opinions and not be ashamed of them. It may be a good idea to say what it is about Transformers that you really liked and I have not seen much evidence of that in this thread. As for the whole not liking Watchmen thing, neither did I. I thought it was overlong and I fell asleep about halfway through, but my friends all really liked it, but you are by no means the only person that didn't like the film.
