I certainly wouldn't mind. I mean look at Digimon. While I haven't seen Season 3, it went in a dark direction and it benefited from this. I can vouch for the grimdark in season 2 though. God it got even more grim near the end.

...Is all I could think of. I thought the pokemon series was quite good (cheesy, but decent). I'd be more interested in a better game, rather than a clone of something that hasn't really changed since the 90's.

I don't think I want dark edgy Pokemon. To much stuff is already dark and edgy. It's nice to have something like Pokemon to bring a little happiness.
The original Pokemon anime is an insult to it's viewers really. It's just so bad, just because it's a kid show, doesn't mean that it needs to be of such low quality writing and character development.
That being said, like the Transformers, He-Man, My Little Pony and Thundercats (both new and old) cartoons, they are series made to sell toys. Some are arguably of higher quality than the other (MLP: Friendship is Magic has a higher writing standard than Transformers: Energon), but the goal is ALWAYS the same.
Sell. More. Toys.
With that in mind, it's hard to argue that Pokemon did not succeed in doing so. I would love to a more 'mature' Pokemon cartoon that doesn't treat it's viewer as a drooling retard, but I highly doubt it would happen. As much as I would want it to.

This is going to come off as jerk-shaped, I can feel it. But I say it out of concern for your own good.
Pokemon isn't made for you; it's made for kids who will then talk their parents into buying merchandise. You were probably once one of those kids. But your body has grown up; you'd probably better follow its lead and know better than to expect the show to instead. As sad as that might make you, you'll be better off not putting your hopes and desires into such a thing anyway.
