I was going through some of yahtzees vids because I am bored. I watched silent hill2 and yatzee ssaid something about a psychiatric test in shaterd memorys. I went to gametrailers found out about the system. Basicly, you take a short test at the begining of the game and the game shapes itself based on your answers. But their hasnt been any examples. I saw one of the questions was "Does a drink help you relax?". I assumed that later in the game, you might encounter a monster based on alchohalism if you answerd yes. What do you think it will be like?

We can even make a little game out of it. Make up some kind of question and come up with a scenerio in the game. Wheater its a monster or some kind of erie flashback ghost images like in bioshock.

I read a article in Nintendo Power about the game, and they said the demo they played the psyche profiles worked fine.

Q: Are you Lactose intolernt(sp?)

S: You come across a glass of milk. You drink it to refill health, and thn your character dies.
I dont mean like funny I mean serious. Like

Are you claustrophobic?

When you are chased by a monster while indoors, the building appears to shrink.

I was a bit disappointed. I expected more questions than those, but I have confidence that they will somehow work well.

They base the game on more than just that test.

Based upon actions you make in the game (some that you don't even think about), in addition to multiple psych tests throughout the adventure, the game will change.

I'm really looking forward to this game.

On topic: Do you make friends easily?

EDIT: Sorry, I forgot the result. If you answer 'Yes', you meet very few NPCs throughout the game. If you answer 'No', you meet a lot of NPCs.

... Huh... just that inro there intrigues me. The graphics are fairly good considering it's on the Wii, and I need a game that can creep me out. Nothing ever really does. I may just pick this up...

I have no idea what it'll be like, but with stuff like that you can pretty throw all the subtlety that made the series great out the window. I love the series but by now it'll probably end up "jumpy" instead of creepy. Any game can make you jump in suprise but a game that will give you nightmares is much better in my book

Here's one:

Q: Why would we need this gimmick when SH2 scared us perfectly well without it?

A) Lack of Imagination
B) Ran out of ideas
C) Bleh?
D) Please don't answer "C".

Seriously, I'm just waiting for it to be a test like the one at the beginning of Fallout 3, people will answer in the stupidest way possibly in order to get the funniest result.

EDIT: On second thought, after watching the youtube clip, they should just have one question:

Q: Do ridiculous cardboard pop-out scares constitute what a survival horror game should be?

A) Yes
B) No

If you answer yes, the game locks you out, not letting you play, and tells you to go play Dead Space or RE5.

The psyche profile isn't going to be just the test in the beginning. It's going to be watching you play throughout the game, for example, if there's a loud noise, and you quickly turn around, the game will notice that and will start making more loud noises at certain points.

When Yahtzee said that Silent Hill 2 got in the player's head without needing a psyche profile, he was wrong. The game got in the protagonist's head, did stuff that was scary to him. And sure, the player could find those stuff scary, but that's all there is, the player just got scared, this way the game could find what you're most scared off, start doing that, and oh, did you know that the monsters and the puzzles will change depending on your way of playing.

So, yeah, I'm pretty hyped for this game, oh and here's how the otherworld will be like:

It looks pretty scary, doesn't it.

It would take advantage of my innocence and easily-scared-ness...
I'm scared to play it, but I'd love to see how it would play out with my imput.

Dude, thank you for that. I hadn't seen any actual gameplay yet. This game will own.
Yeah it looks very original, at least they're not trying to make it action-packed like SH5 (From what I've heard you can't even kill the enemies) and the winter setting is a change of direction for the SH series. It even seems like the Wii controls will be useful in this games rather than harmful (I know it sounds crazy) the flashlight looks very easy to use.

I agree with this man's post. I hate people who thin BLAH! is just as good as a buildup of tension and claustrophobic atmosphere when it comes to making people scared.

That was just the test. Not how it affects the game. But iit was still creepy as hell.

I watched that in the dark. When he fidles with the tv security camera, I thought I saw something crawling around in the store and I jumped out of my chair!

There's alot of atmosphere to the game. The entire video consisted almost entirely of it. To me there were no 'pop-out' scares, as you call them. And calling basing the entire game on your psyche unimaginative?! I'd like to hear your argument on that!

What's unimaginative is trying to emulate Silent Hill 2. Should they just give up because they made a 'perfect' game? Then people would accuse them of beating a dead horse.. I for one am glad they're doing something different with this game. As others have mentioned, the psyche profile is not just questions that get answered. The game watches everything you do. Where you go first, what you examine first, how careful you are. It then uses this information to get inside your head and scare you. It sounds pretty sweet to me.

I need to point out it goes beyond questions the psyche profile. What you do in the game shapes the personality you have. If you say look a dirty magazine or try going into a womens bathroom the game will think you're a bit perverted. If you call the police as soon as you get your phone and check the map the game will think your more responsible. It isnt just a simple Q&A thing. Also the first questionare isnt the only one.
