Well, popularity can get annoying, even if it's for games you actually like. And yes, it got so bad that even my appreciation of the game got infected by it.

The most utterly retarded excuse I saw was not only from this site, but to this day I remember who it was clear as day.

They refused to play AC Unity because Arno was a male. After explaining how the co-op works and why there are 4 Arno's featured (which yes, still makes perfect sense. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's senseless). After pages of arguing, her response was literally, word for word "well, they should of just written Arno as a female in the first place".

Could they have? Sure. Did they have to? Fuck no. And if your feminist bullshit is that much of an issue to you for games...then you really shouldn't be playing.

I'm a white male. I still enjoyed the shit out of AC3, Tomb Raider, Infamous First Light, Sleeping Dogs and I'm beyond excited for Mafia 3. Just because it doesn't portray your specific race/made up sexuality doesn't make it a bad game.
I didn't play Unity, don't intend to, but co-op sounds like 4 Swords Adventures sans in-story excuse(please correct me if I'm wrong). If you're playing as assassins teaming up for a mission, it doesn't make sense that they're all the same guy, nor does it make sense that they all be guys, all the time. In AC 2 and Brotherhood, at least, we are given strong evidence that the organization always had women among its members and even the elites. And in a game called Unity, does that word really mean anything if it's all the same guy?

As to your first point, making the main character the typical protag (white, brown-hair male in his 20s to 30s), was, to me, just another sign that Ubisoft was just seeking the path of least resistance to our wallets. Protagonist(s) that matches target audience, check. Releasing the game on time instead of delaying to fix the bugs, check. Horde of micro-transactions, check. The French Revolution [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/video-games/columns/criticalintel/11758-The-Historical-Case-for-Playable-Women-in-Assassin-s-Creed-Unity] was the perfect setting, and new-gen launch was the perfect time for Ubisoft to take some risks with their franchise, but the France-based company didn't even risk hiring French actors for their France-based game.

God of War: Because it has you fighting and talking with multiple different Gods, and there is only one God, period!

Not as comically absurd as the ones above me, but still...
I don't know. This has got to be one of the most ridiculous statements I think I've ever heard. Not least of all because you'd think someone so religious wouldn't want to play such a violent, aggression fueled game anyway. 'Yeah, I'm okay with all the carnage, boobs, and innocent bloodshed, but polytheism..?! Fuck that!'

I think people hating on Fallout 3 because they prefer 1 & 2 or New Vegas is incredibly silly. Just don't play 3 if you don't like it.
Well, thank you! If someone will spoil your favourite non-shooter series by turning it into FPS which also places a nice big pile of you-know-what on original lore, I'll say you exactly the same words, just don't forget to remind me!

huh, guess he would have fucked hated me, I use the mouse in my left hand, while being right handed ^^

OT: I had a couple of friends who hated indie games because of the label of indie games... Took a good few years to get them to come around to the fact that some of the best gaming experiences can come from non-AAA titles. Also me and a friend took the piss outta two of our other friends for playing WoW, basically after watching that south park episode. About 6 months down the line, we were both playing it too xD

I've mentioned this in another thread recently but...

"I can't/won't play RPGs where I can't play as myself."

Because there are apparently people out there utterly incapable of playing the role of a character but instead must play as themselves as something. Frequently turns up in anti-JRPG, pro-WRPG rants. It has got to be the single most bizarre argument against playing a game I've ever seen.

Well, up until I saw that God of War one above. I think that one just took first place on my list. X-D

I used to refuse to play FPS games because I couldn't see my feet when I tiled the camera down.
The massive influx of wonderful FPSs in recent generations got me over that quickly and made me realize how silly that pet peeve was.

(Although it is still kind of funny how a studio can put so much effort into making everything else absolutely beautiful, yet you're still a floating camera without a reflection in any of the water or mirrors, it just now won't stop me from playing the game).

This may not be valid now, but back when instruction manuals were a thing, I had a friend who would play games without reading the manual and then quit because the game didn't tell him how to play it.

I am guilty of stupidly disliking anything anime or otherwise typically asian in artstyle (Final Fantasy, JRPG's in general, etc.). I think I've just seen it around so much that I've started to want to distance myself from it, and it's really a shame because I know I'm probably missing out on potentially great games.

This is more of a reason for not playing a game. I have another friend, who insists on playing the games of a franchise in their proper order. Not a bad practice, but he's already decided that he'll never end up playing Persona 4, because the very first Shin Megami Tensei game is pretty much unplayable for someone who can't speak Japanese. Anyway, he refuses to touch any of the other games until he has played that one, which he'll never play, thus all Shin Megami Tensei games shall forever remain out of his reach. Sad huh?

For me, it's Free-To-Play stuff. I've had experience with a good Free-To-Play game before, and yet, when I'm browsing through the Steam store, the sight of the word "Free-to-Play" makes me scroll past any game as if it said, "Malware detected".

I thought the question was what silly reasoning does one-self have, not others. Oh well, I shall start my own possibly logical failures;

1. Hating Ff XIII and above for their incredibly shallow, angsty character scripts, while having no problem with minimalist story games such as Mario.and Rayman etc..Though to be fair, it is worse when FF is all bigging up its' own dramatic, theatrical style, replacing gameplay with solely prettiness and more cutscenes whereas Mario and Rayman etc are pure gameplay with no pretence. And that is what I think is the dealbreaker, it is the pretence of FF that it is deeper than a 13 year old girl's dandilion mind. Japanese culture I believe needs more childhood freedom so that the adults can grow into adults and not subtly repressed children. Blanket statement aside, I cannot feel for these characters as they remind too much of being a child, hanging around other children talking about childish stuff while believing that we were really talking about the most important things in the world. It brings on shame; how does a game so easily make you ashamed of your child self? A film like Tideland can explore childhood brilliantly because it is aware of its' goal. FFXIII and above seems entirely unaware of its' bushy-tailed impressions, as unaware as a child would be. So perhaps that is a silly reason, but it is still the one thing I cannot get past.

2. The Redux of Metro 2033, which I can almost garuntee was Deep Silver's intervention to make it more CODlike to get that juicy moolah. While there is nothing wrong with COD inherently, there is something wrong with Metro the frightening, tactical stealth shooter being CODified when the virtues that gave it an identity are taken away. Why the happy music too? Anyway, the game is objectively still good, I just will stick to the non-redux for now. Maybe i'll even complete the sequel if I can delete those memories of playing the first game.

Okay now on to the recieving end;

1.Too kiddy, too bright, too Nintendo. Yeah we get it, you are a big boy now and must maintain your identity as an adult. Else the world will fall away and all will see you maskless, naked and alone. It's not as bad as it sounds, really!

2. Some people cannot understand wii motion controls, I have tried and tried to help but they do seem to be unable to account for anything. I would like to study their brains further if possible.

There are more, though I see many mentioned already.

Ehm, I remember reading somebody who claimed watching the stanley parable on youtube gave him the same experience as playing it so you might as well watch a video of it. I know many people didn't like it but I hadn't expected anyone to miss the point that much.

But that's not the main point. We were talking about video games one day and started talking about Zelda. Out of the blue, the guy says that Majora's Mask is objectively a bad game... because it uses the same game engine as Ocarina of Time.
To be fair, he disliked majorra's mask. What reason could he possibly have offered that wouldn't have been dumb?

Well, yeah, I think there's a difference between:
`Ugh the fans of this thing I love can be really obnoxious and that makes me love it less`

and

`I refuse to enjoy this because the dirty masses enjoy it and I must be different`.

I don't really have a problem with people liking stuff less because of the fans, but I don't like the trend of- say, after a really popular game comes out loads of people will just decide that they hate it because everyone else loves it.

Never agreed with hating a game because its exclusive to PC or a single console. I mean I understand being angry and upset, but blame the devs and publishers. The game has no choice in the matter.

Since the dawn of time, my brother doesn't play games with dwarves in them. Why, you may ask? Well, because they are dwarves and shorter than humans. What a racist oppressive shitlord!
I don't flat out refuse to play a game with elves in it. D&D 4 life. But I have never and will never choose Elf as my main character in any game.

"I don't like the way the character looks, therefore it's bad."

Excuse the fuck out of me. I hate the fact that all the Oblivion characters look like someone sat Mr. Potato Head in the microwave but it's still a good fucking game.

Hating Eurocom's Goldeneye because it isn't like Rareware's Goldeneye and because it's "like Call of Duty" because it has optional regenerating health and a grenade warning icon. Nevermind that Eurocom had been developing their own Bond games (World is Not Enough, Nightfire) for a decade or so and Goldeneye was a movie before it was an excellent Rareware title.
Im not even a big fan of Goldeneye (I prefer Perfect Dark and Timesplitters, Goldeneye feels very basic in comparison) but I get why people dont like the recent one, it dismissed the things that made the game unique and made a game that is indeed very close to Call of Duty, something that we get every year not counting the other games that copy Call of Duty, and all of them still worse then Call of Duty.

So yeah, in the end the game can be ok with a under a shadow of a huge sign saying "Missed Opportunity" to revive a different style of FPS (those games were very objective centered in areas that you could go back and forth to complete them), and then all the other cool things that they could have made.

So yeah, it hurts.

Yeah, but a game like Oblivion you can easily excuse for that, since there's so many NPCs in that world that you don't expect the developer to hand-craft every single one.
