Excuse the fuck out of me. I hate the fact that all the Oblivion characters look like someone sat Mr. Potato Head in the microwave but it's still a good fucking game.
Yeah, but a game like Oblivion you can easily excuse for that, since there's so many NPCs in that world that you don't expect the developer to hand-craft every single one.
I would agree with you, but look at Skyrim. The NPC's don't look like someone sat Mr. Potato Head in the microwave in Skyrim.

Thing is, the facegen software they used in Oblivion was shit. Mods corrected it but it was still shit and I'm not gonna give a dev bonus points for having the community shovel shit for them.

Oblivion was still a good game though. Fucking great game. 900 hours clocked on it according to steam, and I used to own the game on PS3. Plus, I have an urge to reinstall right now just talking about it. For me to write the game out because Mr Potato Head melted a few dozen times would be stupid.

Since the dawn of time, my brother doesn't play games with dwarves in them. Why, you may ask? Well, because they are dwarves and shorter than humans. What a racist oppressive shitlord!
I don't flat out refuse to play a game with elves in it. D&D 4 life. But I have never and will never choose Elf as my main character in any game.
But you still played those games with elves, right? My brother outright refuses to play them, so he missed out on such gems as Baldurs Gate, Icewind Dale, Neverwinter Nights etc.

It boggles my mind even to this day!

Well, I've mentioned this before but some people I know absolutely refuse to play cleric/priest/paladin type characters because they're atheists in real life and religion is stupid and only believed by people who are stupid... In games where gods are 100% factual and denying them is kinda foolish.
I've actually seen this before. Worse yet, I've seen people who'll completely write off a game because it has real gods in it and it's "feeding into an anti-intellectual mindset". Fireballs are still cool though.

I'm an atheist, and I really like playing as paladins. My favorite D&D character was a devout paladin who's faith in his church was unshakable, which made for some very interesting dilemmas when it's leader (and his effective adopted father) ended up being corrupt. One of my favorite characters in the Dresden Files is Michael, who is as paladin as you get. It's makes for an interesting motivation, and I can respect religious people and characters without having to believe in a god myself.

I remember back when Half-Life 2 came out, I knew someone who hated it simply because you couldn't gib Human Enemies like in Half-Life 1. That one was pretty silly.

And I myself am guilty of hating any and all overhead shooters/s'chmups solely because I love side scrolling too damn much. Metal Slug and Contra spoiled me on the idea of an overhead shoot 'em up for whatever reason.

I don't like Final Fantasy IX because of the art style.

I have heard nothing but good things about that game, and I know I'm being completely unfair to what is probably the best entry in the series since FF VI. But I just really, really don't like the way it looks, and I can't quite put my finger on exactly why. I mean, Final Fantasy's art style has never been particularly good, but this one did something different that I just can't stand.

It kinda irks me.
No, I completely understand, its the same reason I don't like Dust, the art style is just a turn off to me.

My reason for HATING FFIX is that I played FF1. If you don't understand why this is a reason, then you either didnt complete FFIX or you never played FF1.

They just ripped the main plot of FF1 and wedge it into FFIX in a way that doesn't make cohesive sense and feels more like they ran out of ideas after kuja(aka monkey sephiroth) wasn't interesting enough to hold peoples attention. Then to add insult to stupidity, they didn't even have the balls to make the super secret final boss that was never talked about until the very last second of the game Chaos. If you're gonna steal from your previous works, atleast go for full tribute.

I never got disliking a thing for its fanbase. For multiplayer, sure, as my limited playtime of League of Legends has taught me. But for anything else? No, it makes no sense. The two are pretty much separate of each other.

"If I wanted to play a sport, I'd go outside and play it".

...seriously? THAT's your reasoning? You might as well tell me that Call of Duty is stupid because if you wanted to shoot guns, you'd join the military or that if you wanted to play Dragon Age, you'd go LARPing.
Well, to be fair, if you compare the barrier to entry of actually shooting people as a soldier and playing some footie in the street, the difference is pretty big.

-I hate any Final Fantasy game that focuses more on a steampunk/technology theme than it does a fantasy/sword-and-sorcery theme. Final Fantasy 6 and Final Fantasy Dimensions are acceptable hybrids in spite of this.

-I hate all first person shooters that lack both color and brightness. Glowing neon blue does not make for an acceptable consolation for lack of either.

-By default, I passionately hate every game sold on mobile devices. They are guilty until proven innocent for being hallow, uninspired, cookie-cutter pay2win money sinks that suck as games and suck worse as parasites. I say this with all sincerity: any mobile game that DOESN'T aim that deliberately low is an outstanding exception to the norm.

Some people I've known have thought that my hatred of multiplayer games was stupid.

I've never payed for a game that didn't have a single player campaign. I've PLAYED a few that were purely multiplayer though.

Gotham City Impostors-free with games with gold
Plants vs Zombie Garden Warfare-bought by roommate
Destiny-bought by brother, both regretted that one
Defiance-free to play played mostly solo
Elder Scrolls Online-brother bought it, both playing mostly solo and enjoying it.

I just feel that my experience with a game shouldn't hinge on other people. especially if i have to look at everyone's jokey/poorly spelled/maybe racist gamertags.

I wouldn't say I hate it, but I refuse to try out Splinter Cell: Blacklist simply because Sam Fisher isn't voiced by Michael Ironside. Funny thing is I would have been fine with a new main character especially since it doesn't really make sense for Sam Fisher to still be working for the US government after Conviction.

People who get snobby about old graphics, but then play old RTS games with the dullest UI imaginable

I once knew someone on a forum who hated Kid Icarus: Uprising. His reason? Because he felt "betrayed" by it. Why did he feel betrayed by it? Because it was on the 3DS, and not on a main console.

There are a surprising number of people who will hate and boycott any RPG with same sex romance options. I'm pretty sure there was actually a mod for Mass Effect 3 that removed the option. Yeah, it's not enough to simply not take that path, you need to remove the path entirely.

This was a long time ago, so it's perfectly possible that this was just complete trolling before I really knew what 'trolling' was, but in a discussion about the original Starcraft, someone said that they would only play as the Terrans because the Zerg and Protoss weren't Christians.

I'm not making this up.

I think that most of my reasons for disliking certain games are reasonable for me.

The only one is really sometimes struggle with are games that have Anime style art and characters. Sure, if I don't typically like the art or animation styles that usually come with such, that doesn't mean it's a bad game, I should at least try it. But most of the time I don't even do that.

To some people that's probably a dumb reason but it's more or less good enough for me.. Then I think of games like Dungeon Defenders, Prison Architect, or RimWorld (which is excellent, go check it out) where I was initially put off by the art style by soon accepted and even liked the quirky uniqueness it brought those games.

Then I remember how silly I find very effeminate girly looking men, too young characters, low frame animations, and other things I typically think of as lazy, exaggerated, and juvenile way of presenting your setting and the cycle starts over again.

However, I immediately intensely dislike Mobile Games before I know anything about them because of the putrid garbage most of them are and the threat they pose to the future of gaming. The fact that rancid shitty fake games like Clash of Clans exist and makes money sickens me. Good reason for me, but some might say I should learn about them first, or take them on an individual basis.. But no. It would take a lot for me to do otherwise.

Execution is TOO EASY. Oh it can be deep as fuck and have a meta that involves multiple layers and elements for various characters... but if it doesn't have 360s or ludicrous timing for linking hits it's simply not worth the time. Seriously, arcade limitations on arcade boxes only, I use a controller and should have controls designed as such. Give the arcade hardcore a mode for arcade input but don't let them dare complain how much harder they have to try to do inputs. You want barrier difficulty to reach the higher levels of play, just leave.

I can see why people hate disc-locked content and while it's true that Splatoon and apparently Super Mario Maker have those, what I don't get are people hating on those games when it's already been announced for the one (and it's been happening for the other) where that locked content will be unlocked after launched. People who buy Splatoon now will have more stuff to do than I did on day one for example and, Super Mario Maker will apparently have everything unlocked after 9. I can see why that would deter day-one adopters but to say "INSTANT NO BUY" just seems a bit extreme.

I also don't get why people will abandon a series if it undergoes an art-style change...I hated Skyward Sword and the DS Zelda games because they controlled like ass. Wind Waker and Wind Waker HD were freaking awesome. Apparently Devil May Cry Again is freaking awesome to play even though people hated the new aesthetic.

A Polish game set in a med evil eastern european inspired country not having any black people or.. pardon.. "people of color"

Because you know.. the whole world is measured by US centric insecurities when it comes to skin color... and not lets say cultural background of the country the developers are from.

How dare those european shitlords not cater exclusivly to US centric "progressive" views? Dont they know that the US is the center of the universe?

So yes.. hating on a game for US-centric cultural issues is pretty dumb.. same goes for all the hate that "problematic" games from japan get piled on.

I hate it because the games controls cause you physical harm. Not since the virtual boy have I suffered such pain from a video game.

That's a reasonable reason to dislike the game. (I had no problem with the controls, but I guess I just have weird hands, seeing as I'm in the minority there) His reason, however, was literally nothing more than "It wasn't a Wii U or Wii game, so BETRAYAL".
