The point: it's bound to sell by the planetload, and so will the inevitable "expansion" packs.

Which in turn means money for EA. Lots of money.

I wonder if The Sims 3 will manage to be even worse than Spore?
Tough Call there eh

The Sims 3 actually looks pretty good, to me. A personality system that isn't an annoying point based bar system, A.I that actually works, the ability to make my Sim not look like an idiot, those damn needs bars being sidelined to make way for actually having your Sims live a life, not an endless routine of pissing.

I am actually looking forward to The Sims 3, as I think it'll be a laugh.

That's impossible. Nothing can give me as much of a headache as Spore.
That fucking game crushed my dreams.

i enjoyed the hell out of the original sims. never bought an expantion, never played the sims 2, wont be playing the sims 3. the original one pretty much had everything that the game COULD have for me atleast. not once while i played it, or even now when i load it up do i think to myself "hmm if only i could ". the original had it all. the draw was using your imagination. it really WAS a 'doll house' kinda thing, but all the 4 millon expantions just took away your imagination and tryed to make the 'play' too 'real'.

i enjoyed it when my dude ran out the door at 3 AM 'late for work' i didnt want to actualy take a hand in his job. point is for me atleast is half the fun of the game was making shit up in your head about the details that WERENT in the game. once EA started to try and put those details in it just kinda ruined the draw for me.

its like Star Wars when i was a young kid, how i pictured Vader being maimed was WAY more cool than the movie actualy SHOWING me how it happed could ever be.

What's the point of any sequel? To capitalize on the former games success. That's kind of a no-brainer.

The big thing this time around is that you can give your Sim a personality....wow, really? That's it?
Actually, that's not it. The "big thing" this time around is that it'll have seamless neighborhoods. Also the whole notion of building your houses and placing your furniture is being completely revamped. For instance, now you can place furniture diagonally, etc.

What you're forgetting is that this game isn't really for gamers, per say. You don't need Crysis-like graphics, because people that don't upgrade their computers every 6 months are the people buying this game. How stupid would that be to shut out their main demographic?

That's also why you won't be hearing many people sticking up for the Sims. Because the demographic that enjoys the Sims aren't the same people that come to places like The Escapist. I'm not even into the Sims, this is all just common sense.

Well the sims has always been good for sadistic people to live out their strangest fantasies. My friend used to make his sim swim all day and night until it peed itself on the side of the pool and fell asleep in its own wee, he subsequently boxed him in, got rid of all the doors and set fire to the house...is that worth forty dollars?
BDSiM

*EDIT* Sims was something I never got into, but I respect the franchise for growing the gamer community and bringing in money that can fund other games I might be interested in.

This is what I would do in the Sims. Actually, I may pick that up now that I can't go to Stranglethorn and kill people 40 levels below me that are trying to level up.

Wow..so much hate. what were you all beat with the sims cd cases as children? Look sims is the sims always will be the sims no matter how its packaged. It's a good time killer, a change of pace, and some ppl really enjoy it...don't buy it if you don't like it. EA doesn't need your money.

I have a feeling I will probably buy Sims3 sometime down the road but as with my transition from Sims1 to 2, it probably won't be for a while. I just don't see the point. When I run out of things that are interesting to play with or run out of ideas of screwing with my Sims I'll get the new one :p

(If it's as pointless as Spore I'm going to cry.)

Man, I'm going to spend so much time on the Sims 3. Well, if it's not so glitchy.

I can't wait! :3

Then why not release a new version of Sims 2 so everyone can keep their own shit from that game without having to sink $150 into a game?

EA would disagree with that last part.

The answer is obviously, money. EA is a business and it's goal is to make a profit. Besides, I'm not really sure "upgrading" sims 2 would work that well, while still thinking you can keep your old stuff. They'd be completely restricted on how much they could upgrade because of the limitations the original engine had, which wouldn't be much use. Regardless, even if I'm completely wrong about that, money is the main reason.

Can you say it doesn't?
I have a feeling that ultimately, everyone who ever bought The Sims ends up doing it out of curiosity or rage. I know most of my Sims do. (I had the original Sims, but never bothered getting an expansion for it).

What?
Don't worry. Guys like those have a tendency to not stick around very long. Either that, or they do stick, but manage to learn some grammar. Either way. Nothing to worry about. Give'm some time.

Also. A female friend of mine is hyped about this game. I have no idea why. She does, after all, own Sims 2 ... But hey. If it keeps you happy.

ALso. What is it that I'm seeing? Is not Maxis any part of it any more?
GIRLS LIKE THE SIMS.

It's pretty elementary. We've known it for years. Girls like the Sims, for the same reason they like dolls, and why the ones who like MMOs like MMOs.. they love character development... If the sims offers greater social status, like visiting other people's houses online, or making friends, they will eat it right up.

I know I'm generalizing, but this is elementary stuff.. It's the first thing you learn about when you look at genders in gaming.. On the whole, girls like the Sims. Boys like BOOM HEADSHOTS!!!

Bottomline, if you don't understand the appeal of the sims 3, or don't understand sims at all, then it's really not for you.. Yeah, it'll sell like fucking crack, but there's a reason - the intended audience is hooked on it.. because Will Wright largely is a genius.. sure, "Real" gamers won't forget being fooled into getting Spore, but my girlfriend won't shut up about how awesome it is.

Honestly, I want to see it. Sims two is still one of my favourite games of all time, due to the presiscion I could get. People are complaining that it "takes away the imagination" but I don't think that's the case. It still allows the imagination, but allows those things to actually happen. Also, I'm looking forward to giving my character the "insane" trait.
