I've been playing Skyrim for the last 6 hours, I feel that they should be recounted in full, just so you get an idea of how ridiculous they were:
I started out in Morthal, where quite literally 30 seconds after I loaded in a dragon came and attacked the swampy town. I fought and killed the thing, and headed to Dawnstar in search of quests. When I got to Dawnstar, it was also attacked by a particularly flighty Blood dragon who simply would not land despite repeated hits with the Dragonrend Shout. I finally managed to fill it full of holes with a quest bow I had kicking around, and picked up a Daedric Shrine quest, where one of the goals located back to Morthal. I returned there, not 24 in-game hours from when I started out, and was attacked by a dragon. What the hell? The last dragon's corpse wasn't even gone yet and there was another one of the damned Dovah flying overhead. How unlucky were these people? Anyways, this one wasn't so much a threat as the others seeing it was only the regular kind, so a couple of mace blows to it's skull later it joined its very recently slain kin.
I was fortunate enough to be able to complete the rest of the Deadric quest with no more Dragons nipping at my heels, but lo and behold, the very minute I returned to my residence in Solitude to unload my accumulated loot, it too was attacked by a dragon. 2 hours in to this play session, I had killed 4 dragons. And this was only the beginning.
Now seeing as my Khajiit fighter had little in terms of magical defense, and even less need for any spells due to it's dual-wielded weapon stance, I decided to go find the Atronach Sigil Stone, which from prior experiences in Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, I knew to provide some spell absorption ability. I'd figured out it's whereabouts, which were roughly east of the Throat of the World, and fast-traveled to a town near it's location. On route I was blind-sided by yet another Blood dragon, which like it's counterpart in Dawnstar, didn't like the idea of landing much. Fortunately, this one being out in the open, my Dragonrend Shouts actually did something this time, but not before the canny bastard led me smack dab into an as of yet undiscovered dragon lair, housing one particularly obstinate Elder dragon, to whom my standard greeting of mace to his face did little more than piss him off. 4 minutes and several health potions later, I had finally finished of the stubborn bugger, and claimed a Shout word and some expensive dosh as a reward, to which I made a bee line for the Atronach Stone, got it's benefits, and got back to Solitude which mercifully was not attacked again by a dragon, though that was unfortunately overoptimistic on my part, because from there on in the crafty reptiles started hunting in packs.
After getting the Atronach Sigil and returning to Solitude for a second time I decided to get my Thanehood for the city and began taking quests for the inhabitants, and the first few where mostly kept within the city walls, three of them required that I leave safe walls of Solitude and venture out. Though the first time only had me face a lone straggler dragon that I saw flying over the Burrow that housed my quest's goal of an old book, the other two times I was attacked by a pair of dragons. The first, while I was out between Dawnstar and Winterhold looking for a flute that a necromancer stole from a bard, and while it was surprising, was not particularly hard considering numerical disadvantage I faced, as I had recently crafted and enchanted a pair of Daedric swords, that when combined with some poisons and these dragons' preference to fight me up close and personal, made short work of their scaly hides. The second pair, out near the northen edge of Soltitude's county, however seemed to have learned from the others' mistakes, and proceeded to perform co-ordinated bombing runs on me. They, like the Blood Dragons in Dawnstar and near the Atronach Stone, did not like to land and it took me honestly 5 minutes of getting alternately frozen then burned before I finally clipped the wings of them enough to bring them down and finish them off.
Once that was done, I finished the last quest I needed to get my Thanehood, hightailed it back to Solitude for my complementary weapon and housecarl, then headed over to Markarth to buy and decorate some property. Once that one done, I started clearing out some secondary quests I had kicking around. I'd cleared half a dozen fairly simplistic ones before I set upon one particular quest that had me retrieving a moon amulet from out west of Whiterun for a Khajiit merchant-bodyguard I met out near Dawnstar. Why the bandits went that far to get some simple trinket is beyond me, but dosh is dosh.
Now comes the climax of this game session. While on route to the amulet, I was attacked by not one, not two, but three dragons one of which I'm moderately sure was an Ancient Dragon aka one of the Big Kahuna's of the Dovah, due to his inordinately high resistance to being stabbed or Shouted at. That's right, I had 3 bus-sized flying lizards on my butt, (four if you count Odahviing, whom I Shouted for to even the odds, though he was pretty much useless for the little time he was there), all of whom tried to roast, freeze, bite, stomp, and other wise render my feline behind into a much deader state. That fight took 10 minutes. ten insanely fun, but by far the most challenging minutes of my gaming experience, after which half of my potion supply had run out and the landscape resembled a warzone after Jack Frost had vomited on it a few times. At that point I saved and stopped playing the game, because nothing was going to top that event tonight.
So ends my most recent experience with Skyrim. 6 hours, 14 dead Dragons. My fellow Escapists, I ask you: are the dragon's in Skyrim getting smarter, or was the game's enemy generator just screwing with me?
BTW feel free to recount your own Skyrim horror stories regarding these scaly foes. I'd love to hear that I'm not the only one who was targeted by the Dovah for doom.
