The most superior person is the guy who has no strong feelings towards either game.

Disinterest = Superiority

Im sure im not the only one who does things like this. I also dont see why this behavior wouldnt follow people onto the internet.

Yes they are. (Kidding!)

In all seriousness, I agree that people should not consider themselves to be superior to another for any reason, but I have some comments to make regarding your post.

If you honestly think that you are superior to someone because they don't like the same things you do, you are truly pathetic, and have no business forcing your opinions on other people as if they were objective facts.
I'm gonna have to call bullshit there. There is nothing, I repeat, NOTHING that forfeits someone's right to express their opinion, no matter how biased, arrogant, or elitist that opinion may be. Freedom of speech brings with it the freedom to express the opinion, "I am better than you for whatever arbitrary reason I decide," as dickish as that opinion might be. Now, that attitude may forfeit the CREDIBILITY of their opinion, but that freedom is theirs nonetheless.

That's like arguing that people who like ball point pens are superior to people who like mechanical pencils. It makes no sense.
While a person's choice of writing implement doesn't grant that person any kind of superiority either way, mechanical pencils themselves are infinitely superior to ball point pens. That's just objective truth. :p

In fact, this doesn't just happen with Skyrim, this happens with a lot of other games as well.
And here's where I may seem to contradict what I said in the beginning, so just bear with me.

Some games require more critical thinking and intelligence to play than others. As a general rule, RPGs like Skyrim require more critical intelligence to play than FPSs like Call of Duty. Not that this makes Call of Duty BAD; it just makes it a game that revolves more around reaction time and physical reflexes, as opposed to higher order thinking.

Also, some people are just more intelligent than others. Therefore, there is such a thing as "intellectual superiority." That's just a fact. And, in the end, I'd be willing to bet that people with higher intelligence are more drawn to games like Skyrim.

While liking Skyrim and disliking Call of Duty doesn't in and of itself create an inherent superiority, there is some manner of truth to calling Skyrim the "smarter" game, or the "smart man's game" when compared to Call of Duty.

Don't get me wrong, anyone who goes around pompously flaunting their superiority is an asshat. At the same time, I think that there may be at least a kernel of truth to the idea that Skyrim's fanbase may have a greater percentage of intellectually superior players.

Uh, that image doesn't imply Skyrim fans are superior to MW3 fans at all, unless I'm missing something. Oh wait, yeah, the "Faith in humanity restored" part, fair enough.

Still, just because 1 Skyrim fan thinks that doesn't mean they all do. I'm sure some Modern Warfare fans think they're superior because they like COD more than TES, all it really means is that the person who thinks they are superior is a bit of a condescending jackass.

I'm happy lots of people like Skyrim, since it means Bethesda will be successful continue to make the games I like. I don't think people who like Skyrim are better than people who don't, and I think it's a safe bet that most people don't think that either.

I think all people who looked at this thread and thought; 'no, I will not waste time on this* are the real winners. And I replied, because I'm all about taking one for the team. shine on, you crazy silent winners.

You are superior in one way, and inferior in another. Therefore you cancel out and are just average. But as we know, average and below average do not exist as everyone is expected to be above average. Therefore, you do not exist.

How do you live with such a paradox?
This may be the best thing I've ever seen on the Escapist.

Reading the comments section of those links. lol

OT It's just the kids being kids. Go anywhere(even here) and you'll find the same type of people: PC/Console elitists, fanboys, and general haters of any franchise.

Am I just reading to much into this, and extracting messages that aren't there?
Yes.

I read through the comments of all the pages you linked. All I see are fanboys exercising their right to be fantastically stupid. Nowhere do I see a superiority complex.

I am a big fan of The Elder Scrolls, and I don't like the Modern Warfare franchise (but I do like Treyarch's Call of Duty cycle). But regardless of my preferences, I am a gamer, just like everybody else on these forums. My tastes don't make me superior, and no one ever claimed that they did.

Comparing Skyrim fans and COD fans is like saying people from Nebraska are better than people from Kansas; they're the same exact thing, except one likes to grow corn and the other likes to grow wheat. In the case of the games, one fanbase likes to shoot things and the other likes to stab things. Big difference.

And regardless of what these chimps post on the internet, I honestly don't get the impression that one fanbase hates the other. I think people only have enough money for one game, so when they buy one, they take to opposing the other to reassure themselves that they made the right choice. As Yahtzee once said, it's not a problem unless there's genuine hatred behind it.

(And Capcom employees aren't bad people... They're just IDIOTS.)

I'm tired of "reasonable" and "sensible" people claiming superiority. Nascar fans are rednecks and CoD fans are retards. Deal with it.

I am a massive fan of CoD series and TES so I guess I am a god. By numbers I have played CoD hundreds and hundreds of hours more than TES. But I like Skyrim better so for me it is balanced. Solid single payer and multiplayer package.

I guess we'll find out which game you like more in two weeks ;). I expect Skyrim's song to be more epic than through the age of the dragon(good luck)!.

I'm sorry but you are just plain wrong. Mechanical pencils are clearly better than pens. You make a mistake with a pen you have to make a mess and scribble it out, or even worse tippex. Mechanical pencils though, best of both worlds. Erasable and neat.
Dude screw you for being so damned right. Okay? :U No seriously, using my SumoGrip awesome mechanical pencil, packs the extra led and has a twisty eraser. Superior Tech!!!

OT: I'm a bit amused by the number of arrogant escapists strutting around saying how shit people are who play MW3 or whatever. That's generalizing an entire group of people because of a game they play, and that makes you the moron here.

Morons and opinions wheee!

Try not to let it bother you, not everyone is a fan boy. Though I think they should make more space games. Not enough space games. I want massive fleet combat in space. I want boarding parties. I want to be fighting on a ship when the Artificial Gravity cuts out and we're all floating about. SOMEBODY MAKE THIS GAME. I start my 4 year game dev course next year. I don't want to wait 5+ years for this!
