You know, the first thing I thought of when I saw the picture and looked at the Slender Man was that he looks remarkably similar to The Tall Man (Cabadath) from Yahtzee's own game series, the Chzo Mythos? They actually look almost identical, the Tall Man from the games and the Slender Man from this 'myth'...
That made it all the creepier for me, really.

Just watched up to part 7 in the series, im loving it so far. Especially part 7 when
they finish filming, and you see The Slender Man in the background, following with the audio distortion

I wonder, has anyone linked this [http://jafool.wordpress.com/] yet?
Fixed? Pretty sure that this is the website you mean?

It seems fairly unrelated to a casual glance except for some references to someone disappearing after contact with the supernatural.

Anyone else know what it's about?
Yes, and I fixed the original, and you need to read it from the start to understand what it's about.

And how does OP know of me?

It would be scary, if in the pictures i could see the scary bits!! As far as i'm concerned, i can only see a foggy wood. However, i have a deep, profound fear in the supernatural, so Slneder Man, i'm sorry if i have offended you.

Don't kill me.

Bravo! Quite right too, I doctored the photos and put the stuff in there, I want to see if anyone believes it ;D

This Marble Hornets stuff is so obviously viral advertising for an upcoming film.
I had a feeling you were having a laugh there, mate.
The worrying thing is, I don't think everyone else did.

It's really quite scary how many people buy into viral advertising and ghost stories.
Really my point wasn't so much to mock as to elucidate the fact that people, as you immediately picked up on, view the world through their own personal lens. That's why the images have the Slender Man in levels of varying obscurity.

I'm not so sure thats the reason behind it. People enjoy making these myths, maybe it was just fun?
Yes, perhaps, but given the relatively low costs for 'suspenseful' voyeuristic films, like the Blair Witch Project and the success of viral marketing coupled with the fact that the superimposed/occluded Slender Man shots in the video are a touch too professional to have come from a random fear monger (video editing is much, much lengthier than photo editing) it appears that they're either a film student's project or advertising. The twitter feed, in-depth wikis etc all suggest advertising because whilst it is conceivable that a student might leak their awesome cool film project why would they create all the rest of it?
Nice Pictures btw.

I still think that the "slender man" is simply the newest iteration of a much larger Myth. The name "Slender man" came from the SA Thread; but the Myth is much much older.

Just look at the Mothman stuff; or the countless other similar qualities "the slender man" shares with other Myths.

Clearly it is all one in the same.

Edit: it is also reasonable to assume that retraction of belief in the slender man (or other similar mythos) and denial of it's existence is a way to comfort those who think they've seen it; or even a way to get rid of it!

Example: Person investigates the slender man/moth man-esque stuff. They start to get freaked out. They then try to find something that says it's not real, to comfort themselves.

Thats all true, I just don't see what kind of product (aside from a movie about this myth) that would use such a video in marketing. Prehaps it is a bit of both?

It does share aspects with other more "real" myths (by that I mean myths that come from native legends or ones where you can't point to something and say "thats where it started, it's fake") certain trends are repeated in many diffrent legends tales and even religious ideas and symbols.

Tall people, quiet people, unmoving people, all these things frighten us, and a stranger who takes people/kids away never to be seen again is a huge fear, particularly for the young and parents. It's not surprising that people give these fears a form, it's easier to be afraid of a thing than an idea, even if that thing isn't real.

EDIT: Whoh, double post, that hasn't happened it over a year. Sorry for the double post.

So I get this link to a video on youtube to a series called "Marble Hornets" [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wmhfn3mgWUI&feature=channel]

It's cool, very scary. You might notice that all the "Marble Hornets" videos have comments disabled; but on a related video I found people commenting about "The Slender Man."

So I googled and very quickly found it was a meme; that started on a 'show your photoshop ghost pictures' thread on the Something Awful forums. [http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3150591&userid=0&perpage=40&pagenumber=3]

Myth solved. Or maybe not.

To save you the forum lurking; I'll go over it briefly. A guy called 'Victor Surge' posts two photos of a tall figure, in a black suit. He notes;
"its persistent silence and outstretched arms horrified and comforted us"

In a later post he describes how he came up with the idea on the spot, and the thread runs with the myth adding all sorts of mythos to it.

Curiously before the thread was derailed into a "Slender man" thread one poster (Beerdeer) noted how he had heard of the myth before; before Victor explained the creation of the character. He then later edited the post to state that he was lying and simply wanted to see more of those pictures.

However, the myth of a tall or slender man has been with society for a while. It was present in the movie "Phantasm" (Where the OP states he got inspiration.)The Mothman Prophecies was in the same theme; as well as much of HP Lovecraft. As well as in alot of other fiction.

The constant trend in all mythos is that the more research put into the search for the entity; the more that it comes in contact with the researcher. This leads to two outcomes. Substantial works never published on the mythos, other than fiction. And retractions of sighting/knowledge etc. Such as in the SA forums, and elsewhere.

I even have a real link to an Academic Journal that leads me to the conclusion that there is truth behind this; it's a law journal mainly about murder cases which turn into insanity pleas. It talks about brutal murders in which the defendants claim that something not human performed the act of murder. The case study used is almost identical to some of the stuff I've seen online. Give me a moment to find it on JSTOR and I'll post a link; I can't remember the journal title.

So I know people are instantly going to jump on this and claim that it is all untrue, etc etc etc. But this isn't a true or not thread. I'm making an appeal for info on this unfindable entity; simply as a starting point.

So what can you find to help validate this myth?

EDIT: Loop Striken; I know you're going to post.
Here's a vid i found on it,it might help

i will not sleep tonight

There's been many videos - which one is 'that' one?
-------------------------

Anyway.

Now I'm back,
from outer space,
I just walked in to find you here with that sad look upon your... wait... umm...

------------------------

So anyway, the Slender Man.

Depending on where you've heard of him from, you'll probably have different impressions of who or what he is and what he does.

Let's see what I can remember offhand:

SomethingAwful: Gangly fellow, likes to hang around in the woods, abducts children for an unknown reason, possibly has a penchant for dissection and may or may not have burnt a house or two down in blue fire.

MarbleHornets: Seems to stalk people who've encountered him, said people become sick not too long after said meeting; causes audio and video distortion if caught on camera, and this may extend to areas he frequents.

JustAnotherFool: Apparently wiped out a squad of soldiers in Iraq, implaing their bodies onto a tree. The sole survivor went a little crazy and wrote down a number of scribblings in a sketchpad, which is the subject of the blog. Said pad is 'tainted' by Slender man and ownership of it seems to cause unpleasant events such as insanity.

If I've missed any substantial troves of information, don't hesitate to inform me.

Edit: There was also this segment on something the Americans have called "Coast to Coast".
Ignore the last caller, she's confused with Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The silly bint.

The only thing that I laughed at was the the cliched "moving swings" in the park in entry 3 or 4. That was the moment that I discredited these videos as fake. Clever, and well executed. but fake.
It took you that long to work out that it's fictional?

I just watched all 22 entrys and some of them were pretty creepy, excited to see where this is going.
Well they're not entirely absurd or anything. It's not like it's completely out of the realm of possiblility. Just as soon as I saw the swings, I knew that it was a blair witch sort of thing.

Celtic Music. You know, stuff like Celtic Woman, or Solas. The CD I use is called Celtic Circles, from Tapestries Records. I really like the harps, whistles and flutes. They're very calming
