...yeah...

why don't enemies in RPG's just attack while your choosing what attack to use. No one can seriously be dumb enough to sit there and deliberately get hit. DODGE IT! Thats what makes it exciting in FPS's they don't sit/stand and willingly say "I'll make it a fair fight and let him hit me".

Turn based battles are not necessarily a representation of reality... It is a system designed for STRATEGY not action. If we wanted all games to be Fps's then they would all be Fps's. And RPGs are not exclusively turn based. See Zelda, Secret Of Mana, Mass Effect, Oblivion etc etc etc. RPGs with turn based battle systems do require a little imagination I'm afraid. Sorry, but this argument's been annoying me for a while.

As an opposite addendum, I don't quite get the obsession with realism in games. They AREN'T real, that's why I PLAY them, real life is predictable and uninteresting and I like getting away from it. I prefer being awed to shocked, prefer atmosphere and immersion to fright or a quick pace, and I have no desire to spend any more time than is prescribed by high school in World War 2. That's not to say there's no place for realism, just that it shouldn't be adhered to like the Constitution, and that if you're making a game about people in space shooting laser guns at one another, keep in mind I'm not going to be playing it because of the meticulous reproduction of all those real laser space battles.

That said: Majora's Mask was a whirling kaleidoscope of hideous leering faces. Everywhere you turned there was another god-cursed freak waggling their goggly eyes and oversized toothy mouths in my direction, and I stopped playing as soon as I started having nightmares featuring that god damn moon.

I know the feeling... Several years of 100%ing that game(which I haven't) has not done good things to my brain

Same thing can be said for Goldeneye 007, pretty much every enemy has an odd looking face that makes me feel oh so satisfied to shoot.

uhg.. Majora's Mask... I was enjoying that game, for awhile. The time system started to get to me, when I was in a rush, and then the game froze. That was several years ago. I haven't beat it or picked it up since.

Wasn't it creepy when Link would scream when ever you put a special mask on him? like he was in pain.... what if it was digging into his skin when it changed him?

What never made sense to me was the crowbar from Half Life 2(not sure about Half-Life 1). If you look at the attack animation, you swing the crowbar, but if you get up close to something you just sort of punch with it. Why doesn't Gordon Freeman swing his crowbar instead of punching Combine in the face?

How come in Star Wars BAttlefront the Rebel Sniper (the only girl) has no voice?

And all those black-out scenes in KoTOR make me wonder...

The entire game Seaman. It had Leonard Nimoy as the introductory voice welcoming you into the game... What the Hell!?! Also, Killer-7 is itself twisted, and I still have no clue what's going on in that game (gonna wiki it now to clarify). Also, Bridget from Guilty Gear. That's all I'm saying.

WoW has enslaved nine million people. That's not really something twisted in the actual game, it's just twisted and frightening.
That made my day, Thank you.

Edit: Also in Grand Theft Auto 3 and the little part of San Andreas, Claude (main character or GTA3) never speaks a word in either game, it just didn't seem right.

For the record, the American manual for SMB2 proclaimed Birdo as a boy who "wants to be a girl" and "would rather be called 'Birdetta". There probably would've been controversy about that nowadays.

I think it's a Monty Python reference. It sounds very much like a line out off Life of Brian.

EDIT: If anyone who's posted on this thread gets a message from the mods saying their post has been reported, I'd like to apologise. My finger slipped as I was scrolling up and I reported someone. I don't even know who it was, so let me apologise in advance.

What's weired is in Paper Mario, it's established that Bowser kidnaps Peach because he has a thing for her. Now way back when I was a kid, I was taught by those toys that you would hammer in shapes and such into corresponding openings; that some things just don't fit...

I think it's very strange that so few people actually think that mutilating, shooting, beating and killing hundreds or thousands of sentient beings is probably one of the most twisted things out there. It's awful that butchering other people is considered normal and mundane, but a nipple, pubic hair, a dysfunctional family and homosexuality, to mention just a few, is considered outrageous and twisted.

I want to be clear that I do not think that gamers are the source of this disparity. I think that some people who are in positions of authority and have petty and narrow-minded views about what is good for us, are to blame.

yep finnish ill agree there, why is it that a game where you will attempt to kill as many things as possible without dying yourself (every game in existence) will be easier to get past the media watchdog than a perfectly fine game with nothing violent or twisted, yet in the second game there is a brief flash of arse/bewbs and BLAM the second game is rated M. odd dont you think?

Well this is a movie but don't the Face suckers from Alien Rape your face?
What about the headcrabs from Half-Life?
The Xenomorphs are male rape, and Headcrabs are female rape

What about the rampant kleptomania in the old point and click adventure games (and RPGs to a lesser extent) where you even steal stuff right in front the owner who more often than not is pretty ok with it.

Skipping the fact that there are games out there that are twisted to begin with (i.e. Clock Tower o.0)...
When we played Kirby in his home environment, vaccuming up enemies and either gaining abilities or spitting stars was good "wholesome" fun.
Then his incarnation in SSB had him ... excreting?? ... the fighters after you stole their abilities. Yoshi at least lays eggs. -_-' [Yeah, everyone poops, but seriously, isn't there a better way to explain that??]
And just for once I'd like to see the ultimate weapon in a game be "the dagger of ultimate obliteration" or something instead of "the ginormous sword of overcompensation."

Is a lombax with many guns not twisted?
And what about in Devil may cry, where Dante has a FUCKING SWORD driven through his body, knocks him to the ground, and he stands up while the sword is RIPPING THROUGH HIM!

I'd go with the entirety of Xenogears I also think that the Hanged man social link in Persona 3 deserves a mention since it involves meeting an elementary school aged little girl who just happens to be all alone at a shrine on most days of the week.....There is also the fact that Persona users in this game have to shoot themselves in the head in order to summon their personas.

Edit:For the record Persona 3 has to be one of the hardest Jrpg's I have ever played, fucking leveling up is sometimes worse than fighting a boss because some enemies use instant death skills and unlike in most other rpg's I have played status effect spells actually do work! It also does not help that if the player character dies it's game over.................
