Finally! someone who is brave enough to publicly speak freely even with the anti-smoking crusade going about.

I SMOKE BECAUSE I LOVE IT! The taste you get off of it after a bacon sarnie or smoking one with a pint ... is well fucking heaven!

I've been smoking since i was about 13 (I think) and i am now 20. I'm not going deny that i am addicted because i am, but i'm addicted to something i like. The best thing about smoking is when someone walks up to you, trash talks you about smoking and you blow a nice big puff of smoke in their face!! HAHA! (he did indeed go nuts at me!) lol

Smoke all you want, just not around ME. I don't enjoy my lungs filling with mucus and dying (I'm asthmatic).

I think that people who think that they can quit whenever they feel like it are deluding themselves because they don't want to admit that they're dependent on a molecule.
would you like to ask my grandad that? 60 years of smoking quit in less than a month.

People harp on the lung cancer, but what some of you may not know is that it is also linked to:
Cancers;Acute myeloid leukemia,Bladder and kidney, Cervical, Esophageal, Gastric, Laryngeal, Lung, Oral cavity and pharyngeal, Pancreatic
Pulmonary diseases; Acute (e.g., pneumonia), Chronic (e.g., COPD)
Cardiovascular diseases; Abdominal aortic aneurysm, Coronary heart disease, Cerebrovascular disease, Peripheral arterial disease
Reproductive effects; Reduced fertility in women, Poor pregnancy outcomes (e.g., low birth weight, preterm delivery) Infant mortality
Other: cataract, osteoporosis, periodontitis, poor surgical outcomes

- And this isn't just first hand smoke so if you think about it, saying that it feels good just makes you sound selfish.
Yeah, but do you know how much second hand smoke you have to inhale to raise your chances of getting any of things? It's a lot more than people think. Fair enough you shouldn't smoke inside when you're living with someone who doesn't want the smoke, but other than that getting a whiff of smoke in the street is not gonna give you lung cancer.
It WILL cause my lungs to fill up and I could die. So don't smoke around me - at all.

I don't smoke, never did. Out of principle I don't put things in my mouth that are still on fire. But I have nothing against other people doing it, as long as it doesn't bother non-smokers. Hey, it's you funeral.
What about marshmallows?

Ok its kind of a joke but not fully. There are hundreds of places (at least where i come from) where its illegal to smoke. The only places left are open outdoor areas away from doors where the smoke just blows away.

I'm generally a very considerate smoker, i wont light up in a busy place or around children, I'll blow my smoke as far away from people as i can, but then to have people coming up to me coughing and whining about it really pisses me off. Some people should just never leave their homes.
Sorry, I'm just used to smokers only worrying about themselves. It's nice to hear that there are considerate smokers out there, I just wish that more people were as good about that sort of stuff as you are (that's probably why people complain, they just get used to it being a problem. You just keep getting lumped in with the jerks, I guess. Sorry about that.).

Well, it's bound to happen every once in a while. Maybe I'm just an ignorant twit, but I'm pretty sure that nicotine is very addictive. I think your grandfather was lucky to be able to quit with such ease.

Honestly, good for you.

Why should we care? You don't have to hate something to be addicted to it. You most likely are addicted to it, you just dont care to stop.

I smoke too. I don't consider myself a full blown smoker, and I also dont think it is cool. The people who do it because they think it is cool are Ritards.

As for what I think? It is a disgusting habit, and if you do it around people who don't want to smell it, they have every right to kick your ass. If you do it alone, thats jolly good for you.

How do I feel about smoking? I love it. Smoke between 20 and 40 a day, depending on what I'm doing that day. Sometimes more, if some self-righteous health-freak tells me that should stop. Been doing that for... damn, 11 years now and I don't have any plans to stop. And if I had, I would put it off for another year, each time someone tells me I should stop.

But still. If someone doesn't like the smell of smoke or their health can't tolerate it for one reason or another, I don't smoke near them. I generally don't smoke in public either, unless there's an ashtray nearby that I can use, seeing as I clean the streets for a living and throwing butts all over would be kind of counter-productive.

As for what it does to my health... I haven't noticed anything yet. I might have less energy than I used to, but I'm also older and I've always been a computer-geek, so there never was much to begin with. Heavy lifts aren't fun, but they never were anyway... My lungs are probably black as night, but I don't have that smoker's cough and I've had 4 sick days in as many years.

You know, I can understand you not tolerating trash talk but really, to go as far as to show that much disrespect is just disgusting. You don't like what someone has to say, then match it with words don't be such a arse about it. And I say this as someone who has smoked before.

talking of respect. Why can't they show it. What gives them the right to come upto me and preach about smoking? If i wanted councilling on smoking i would go up hospital and ask someone who actually knows about that stuff.

He had an opinion on you and your habit and he expressed it with words, not a fist to the face or anything along the lines of physical. You took it one step unnecessarily further by blowing your poison in his face. Fair enough you don't have to like what he says, but he never did anything to physically harm you. How are you meant to earn respect from others when you blatantly disrespect them in such a manner? There was no need for what you did, just as there was no need for what he did, you could have been the better man but no, you had to blow cigarette smoke in his face. As I've said, I was a smoker I have been there and I have been on the other end of people for it but at least I could walk away from it without doing what you did.

Growing up, I could never stand the smell of tobacco smoke, and never saw the point of doing something that was physically addicting, made you hack up phlegm on a consistent basis, and caused all sorts of health problems later on in life. Weed smoke, on the other hand, I never had the problem I did with tobacco smoke. Just seemed lighter and lacked the general foulness that I got from cigarette smoke. It is also only psychologically addicting (and even then, less so than chocolate or caffeine), and has been proven conclusively that it not only does not cause cancer (which was the conclusion of a study done by a group who specifically set out to prove that it did), but can be used to help treat and prevent cancer (proven by at least two different studies) as THC was shown to kill off decaying cells before they could become cancerous.

What seriously pisses me off about this all is despite all these facts that there is nothing harmful whatsoever about smoking marijuana, it still remains illegal, while something far more harmful and addicting is legal. It just defies any sense of justice or common sense that the government is more than happy to allow so many lives to be destroyed, both by the government putting so many people in jail for possession, and by gang violence over the black market the government created by making it illegal. There is absolutely no benefit to anyone (the government spends far more than it takes in through fines fighting pot-related crime), and a great deal of harm caused by keeping it illegal, yet most people are against its legalization due to gross misinformation and an attitude of "I don't smoke it, therefore, why should I care if it's legal?"

Steering back on topic, I've actually found that enjoy smoking pot more for the actual smoking of it than the high I get off of it. There's just something relaxing about the act of taking a nice, big drag, holding it in, then letting it out. The high can often be either overwhelming or underwhelming, but when it's just right, I actually find that I do my best thinking when stoned. Almost every epiphany I've ever had throughout my life was from a chain of thoughts I had after smoking pot. There really is something about it that opens your mind under the right conditions. Even so, there's definitely something to be said about the enjoyment of smoking in and of itself, whether it be tobacco, weed, or something else.
Sorry, but Marijuana can be harmful.

I don't smoke. But the reason's not because I want to live to be freakin' 90-something. I just can't afford it. I hate the whole "shorten your life" crap that comes from anti-smoking groups. Who cares? Everything fun shortens your life. Do what's right for you and enjoy yourself.

I hate smoke so much. My whole family smokes and it endangers my health. Do whatever you want to your body, but as soon as you get near me with one I will kindly ask you to gtfo.

When I was a little girl, I loved the feeling of soft human flesh between my teeth, & i tell you I got scolded for it worse than you ever did for your weed & cigarettes, & not a day goes by where I don't wich I could just chomp down on somebody's soft chewy arm.
