All kidding aside, I'm very rarely a sniper in multiplayer games. People just move around way too much for my tastes. Single-player, on the other hand, is another story.

The way I snipe is I run up to people and head shot them.

I call myself a "Battle Sniper."

I call that Assault Sniper.

I call that an assault soldier who likes bolt-action rifles.

I'm usually pretty good at sniping in any game other than CoD4 (I swear it's the game though. I can hold my breath and line up a shot for a good five seconds and the bullet will still miss.), but I don't really have the sniper mentality down. More speciel forces, so I guess I'm a travleing sniper (or sneaky soldier who likes bolt-action rifles).

However, I still disagree. There have been multiple times in my battlefield games that snipers turned the tide of the battle. I'll tell yea what, you get a squad of excellent snipers, and the other team is fucked.

Not necessarily, because im a fairly good tactician as well, i dev-ed my own squad, 1 shotgunner with explosives, 2 sub-machineguns one had a MP5 and the other had a P90 (both silenced), 2 Assault gunners, one had the M4 Carbine and the other had the last light machinegun you get (below the RPD on the weapons screen) with an M16 Assault rifle (that guy was the only one without camo, he was the guy everyone would run to so we could pick them off) and of course 2 snipers, me with the Dragonov and the other with the Barrett. We had about 3-5 matches with that squad, we never lost.

In simple terms, squad of snipers, not such a good idea.

actually, you're right. I should have been more specific. What I was implying was that if you have a team with about 4-6 incredible snipers spread throughout it, it's awesome. I didn't literally mean they're all in one squad, but I know the misunderstanding's my fault.

Ah, yeah, that would be epic (unless your on the opposing team) but personally i can't stand bad backup snipers, there do 1 of 2 things 1. Give away your position like there holding up a flag with a gigawatt light, 2. take your kills when you get someone is last stand (and they have the gall to kick ME from the game for doing what should be done!)

Well this seems hardly fair. You are seem to be one of those people who claim to be good at sniping just like everyone else then you want people to prove themselves using what? The PS3 when practically no body has that shit.
Get a 360 then you may finally see some talent instead of basing this on a very small number of the population.

I'm not the best on sniper. But there was this one time when I was playing CSS and I had the awp. I was blowing brains out, and dieing rarely. I can't remember the map, but it had castle walls that you could go on as the boundries, and a tower in the middle, with giant crates littering the ground. Anyway, I was shooting so quickly and getting a kill each one. By the time the recoil was over I'd have another target and be ready to aim and fire. I kept with this, and the announcer kept going on.
"Dominating!"
"Monster Kill!"
"Ludicrous Kill!"
"God Like!"
"HOLY SHIT!"
As soon as I heard that I broke out laughing. Needless to say I died, but it was the greatest sniper moment ever! When I respawned I did the same thing and heard the thing over again. God I love that sound...

A poster after my own heart. I see sniping as nothing more than a score padder and an ego cultivator. Being able to kill one person every 10 seconds is useless in the greater scheme of things. You can't make your teammates move up quicker, you can't capture objectives or fully defend one. Snipers, at best, are an inconvenience to the enemy but not a full threat.
Five people with assault rifles running towards the objective are a threat, and all a defending sniper could do would be to make it four.

Sniping's fun and I can do a reasonable job at it. I prefer to be a team player though.

Since the invention of the rifle no other person has engendered as much hate as a sniper on the battlefield.
To paraphrase a Civil War Union soldier " I was glad when they carted off the body of a sharpshooter even one of are own. I hate everyone"
No other soldier has as much an effect on enemy moral is as efficient with ammunition or reliable at retrieving often vital battlefield intelligence.
That's on the real battlefield in games I hate them with every fiber of my being especially on the last Rainbow Six for the Xbox because of how overpowered the P-90 was. The damn gun made everyone a spawn camping god damn sniper.

Ok, so i hear about all these people go on about how great snipers they are saying stuff along the lines of "Oh im a great sniper, i never die" and so i think fair enough, your playing your ego a bit, but whatever. I try and give them an idea on how good i am, without trying to butter it up, im a fairly good sniper. I'm very accurate and battle-smart, but of course im not the best, i do screw up sometimes and i pay for it and die from some moron with a machinegun (FYI i hate machineguns, not so much the ones who use it well, but the ones that camp for the whole match).

Now to the point: People say there awesome snipers, i argue, without trying to brag, not many people beat or snipe me, its lying people, if you don't believe me, try me, i want people to stop saying there good with a sniper when there not.

you hit the nail on the head man im a gears sniper (2100 headshots which you know is a huge amount if you play gears) and sometimes ill sniper dual someone and then i go 5-0 and their like "o my brother was playing"

Ever since i used to play counter-strike i figured out that everybody thinks that they are the best sniper in the world... I guess I'm pissed that somebody beat me to sharing it with people. :-D

I think you haft to really, say that most people are bad snipers and once that are good tend not to brag about it

i see myself as a rifleman personally which is similar to a sniper but move moving less camping, but if i getsniped in a game fair play to them, if i get machineguned or granaded by like some idiot who strafe runs and runs away when he is almost dead just won't accpect that i got him.

I'm not exactly perfect. with the accuracy or patience, but I DO know real-world tactics to sniping.

1. Find a concealed spot.
2. Find your appropriate sniper rifle, as in one that you do your best with.
3. Be patient, but also be aware counter-snipers are everywhere.
4. Be aware of your surroundings.
5.If you are camoflauged, for hell's sake don't move every five seconds, it destroys the illusion.
6. Never, EVER shoot from the same spot twice (further explanation: one shot leaves the enemy dead or confused, two shots leaves the enemy with a trace of where you are, and a quick and concealed movement restarts the whole cycle. If you follow this, you will be spotted.)
7. Use diversions (yes this means on TF2, spraying a crouched-sniper in the open to the wall, it just WORKS)
8. Listen to your teammates for rushes of enemies, and MOST IMPORTANTLY: other snipers.
9. If the game has "perks", use them to your best interest. This DOES include "iron lungs" type skills that give you longer running distances, because if theres an emergency you're gonna have to get out quickly.

So sad that I'm a close-quarters guy...
