not against snipers but i dont like em too much. i mean everyone says theres sooooooo much skill involved and im not denying that u require skill but, it also takes skill to kill ppl with other weapons. i mean in BF bad company 2 it definitely takes skill with a shot gun seeing as svery other gun can fire form afar with good accuracy, even with machine guns. and yes i know u can add slugs to shot guns to increase accuracy, but still no where near as accurate as a machine gun with a red dot which u cant put on shotguns. SO back to the point, i personally like using shotguns(duh) cause i love sneaking up to ppl and BANG hes dead and it does take skill to avoid snipers and other ppl. and theres no better feeling than the sheer pwr of the shotgun

On my Xbox 360, I'm not a very good sniper, so I snipe when charging into battle with an M16 isn't working well. I'll get 1 or 2 kills at long range to clear out whatever entrenched opponents are causing trouble, then rush in with a pistol until I get a capture or die & respawn.

On PC, though, when my PC was good, I was an excellent sniper. In fact, I could snipe people at longer range than the draw distance in Battlefield 1942, so sniping was simply the most efficient way to get kills. I could have a pretty high kill rate while quite safe from enemy attack, on certain maps. On other maps, I would never snipe, because there'd be no way to stop someone from sneaking up and killing me.

Watching your prey, that's what they are at this point, move around, unaware of your presence and then BAM, a quick shot to the head. The loud, ringing noise still lingers ever so slightly in the area.
Everyone, without even thinking, scatters like roaches in the middle of an illuminated kitchen. Doesn't matter where they go, any cover is good cover at this point, but they don't want to stay there. You're there.
Reading that I got a vague adrenaline rush, not gonna lie.

I'm good with them. And I prefer the finesse of one-shot-headshots to the guttral grunts and roaring of dwindling the enemy's health with an assault rifle or somesuch.
And if you're really doing it for the finesse, not using some silly fluke or glitch or some silly, pointless somesuch, then it's really, really enjoyable. Pulling off a headshot, especially when you're under fire, it's so...thrilling. Especially when you're using a bolt-action (the CheyTac Intervention in MF:2), there's a deep sense of accomplishment.

Whats awful is when your team is attacking the MCOMs in BFBC2, and everyone chooses the recon class.

Exactly why I hate snipers.

And without insulting anyones play style, I must say that I consider the whole "its takes more skill" thing absolute bullshit. You're playing a role in an action game in which you are in no danger whatsoever and can pick off enemies while hiding beyond the game's draw distance. One or two usually isn't a problem as they tend to have tunnel vision and are immensely satisfying to flank, but when the entire enemy team are snipers and you can't take 2 steps without getting picked off by an enemy you can't shoot, it gets incredibly broken.

I enjoy snipers because I'm so bad at them. Not as bead as with any other weapon, but I'm still bad. I enjoy being able to fire for the critical spots on my enemy and take them out in 1 shot instead of one clip.

I play sniper because it's just my preferred way to fight. One quick clean shot to the head and they're not bothering me anymore and I can move to the next target. That said I do prefer the European sniper doctrine. Being American some would say I'm blaspheming. But I'd rather be at the end of the street or 2 blocks down than 4 miles away when I snipe someone, it lets me react more as the situation changes. This is also the reason I hate the ACOG scope in CoD:4 it's exactly what I want but it's crap on most of the rifles.

Because if snipers in games were in any way realistic, they wouldn't be fun, so game developers just make them like any other gun, except that it's a 1 hit kill. Why wouldn't you use it? There's no downside whatsoever.

I like engaging the enemy on my own terms and then watching the reactions of the teamates next to the person I just killed.

Hey guys, I was wondering...
One thing that always bothers me is that about 70% of gamers will go into a shooter and immediately pick the sniper rifles. Every single goddamn time. I really don't understand this as I can't see how something as slow-paced as sitting back and picking off enemies one-by-one from a mile away can be very much fun. So to those of you who use the snipers, what on Earth is so damn appealing about them?
Thanks
I feel the same way. I'm good with them. Check that, I'm proficient with them. In most games they have no use. Modern sniper rifles are built for immense distances, 1+km, and the only games that get close to those ranges are BF:BC2 and Operation Flashpoint 2. Sniping in MW2 makes no sense because the distances are perfect for assault rifles, about 200m. And sniping in Halo is a joke.

If you snipe all the time in a game, good for you, you're self centered. Snipers do not contribute to the team, just their own kill count.

I don't use them because I have a sense of honor when I play a multiplayer game. Getting sniped sucks. I hate it and I know alot of other people do too. I don't want to do to others something that immensely pisses me off when done to me. Also, I'm a team player. I love to work with my teammates and win. Sniping contributes nothing to the team, which is why it fucks over so many Bad Company 2 matches. If the game requires a team effort to attack and seize an objective, having 8 of 12 people sitting in the mountains at out spawn ruins the fun. Snipers only help themselves.

I really don't except on BC2, and that's only when we're low on tickets so I don't run out and get my ass killed. I personally do it because it requires some skill in that game, because a 9mm rifle bullet is only, say, 9mm and no more, and it's very satisfying when you sneak behind the enemy lines, snipe their leader, and run your ass off to get away, making it back in time for some of your tanks to cover your back.

not if you have good snipers. Thus I prefer down the street sniping to cross country. If you get good snipers on your team suddenly all those people in your blind spots fall over dead and the mini gun keeping you behind cover stops shooting you. GOOD snipers are a credit to their team and help bring down fast moving or well covered enemies. UNFORTUNATELY we are few and hard to come by so most of you know our bullet spamming kill greedy eight year old cousins.

*high fives* this is the real point of sniping, in games like mad company 2 our team sometimes doesn't even notice that i've taken out that chopper with my m95.
