Why should she mention TB taking an anti-corruption stance 3 years ago in an article about harassment?
Because he suffered a big spike of harassment when it was happening (although it could had been just a coincidence :p ).
Fair enough, those "anti-GGs" were really out of control.
I wouldn't know. There was no mention in the article of how TB handled it during GG. :p

Every now and then someone comes running from Twitter with one of these. I never quite understand what they're on about.

Dale and TB are both pretty... Well, I hate to say "Terrible", but, they're people who, generally act without thinking much for other people.

The internet being what it is, everyone has a voice, and they can very well tell you how they feel about you. As such, it's an unfortunate reality, that, people are going to be dicks. I really wish they wouldn't be, but, they are.

Dale moving in the circles they do, it's really no surprise that the SJW mob has gone fully rabid on them for daring to defend a person like TB.

I think the article itself was kinda bad. I mean, TB is a guy that told a guy to "Get cancer and die" at one point. And... Hasn't exactly had the best track record with this stuff. I think glossing over that stuff was really untrue to the situation.

It'd be like making an article about communism and glossing over the millions of people that died due to it.

Really good article, funny that I would have never heard of Laura if not for Jim Sterling's podcast. I really should look into some of her other stuff.

Yeah, the OP is totally missing the point. You should not HAVE to be prepared for harassment for doing your job. Any blame goes to the harassers alone and suggesting that someone who is not psychologically equipped to deal with nonstop threats (so most people) should just not do their job is really clueless.

The thing is, she doesn't deal with constant threats and harassment. She only ever gets a surge of shit when she writes articles like this. Every other article she writes goes wonderfully. She has a fan base that truly loves her reporting on upcoming products, game reviews, even joking topics. Yet the when she goes to produce an article about a serious subject, or an SJW-theme THEN she gets the shit thrown her way.

And it happens everytime. And that's my problem with it. This isn't her first article that led to bullshit, and she has an apparent breakdown every single time. At some point I just have ask her why she keeps dipping her toes into lava if she doesn't want to get burned. I don't want to excuse harassment, and you can't really stop people from doing it if they have the mind to do it. But you could limit a lot of hate by not provoking it.

That's all I'm trying to point out. That's victim blaming though so fuck me I guess.

Someone had the audacity to be a trans woman on the internet.

That pretty much explains it all, unfortunately.
And she was talking about harassment on the internet, 4/8 chan was gearing up to have a go at her too. It's really goddamned sad. Guess those chumps will have to wait for GDQ to come around again.

I wish I had the kind of energy to spare that these saps have. It'd make editing video a snap.

When the ringleader siccing their hordes on you is not only a "renowned anti-harassment activist" and member of the Twitter "Trust and Safety Council", but also has the power to personally get you blacklisted in your profession:

Dunno, maybe there's like a problem here, despite the fact that we're supposed to "ignore" the "irrelevant" Ms. Sarkeesian?

Nah, let's all just keep giving more power to these tyrants to spite the commoners who resent it. That'll surely never bite us in the ass if we develop contrary views!

Anita Sarkeesian did not sic any hordes on anyone. Unless you can show otherwise, the Feminist Frequency twitter account posted twice on this matter:

"Outrageous & irresponsible of Kotaku UK to post this puff-piece on a Gamergater on the hate movement's anniversary."

https://twitter.com/femfreq/status/897886510409687041

And this one:

"You can strongly disagree with & condemn something that someone says or does on the internet, but doxxing a marginalized person is never OK."

https://twitter.com/femfreq/status/897948579980955648

Lets just stick to the facts. The first tweet addressed the article and its contents only. It didn't attack Laura. The second tweet was obviously not an attack: but a defense of Laura.

If you don't want people to have an opinion we may as well shut these messageboards down. I wholeheartedly both think Laura Kate is one of the most awesome people in the world, and that the critique from Feminist Frequency was both (IMHO) correct, and needed to be said.

I guess it's nice to know that whatever happens I can always count on some gamers acting like rancid turds on the internet.

I'm confused though. I mean, how is that article remotely controversial? It just TB talking about moderation tools. It's quite boring actually. I imagine it could be useful if I was a streamer or whatever.

And what the fuck is up with the victim-blaming?
Supposedly it's on the anniversary of a event most of us forgot about and for the right reasons too.

Why would anyone have a problem with this article? What the fuck is wrong with people?
It was an interview with someone polemic, known for defending GamersGate, never mentioned GamersGate... and it was published on GamersGate Day (yesterday). She didn't knew the last part (neither I did); but you know that doesn't matter in this mess. GG brings out the worst out from the people (even from those you least expect).
Wait, totalbiscut is a gamer gate fan? Ugh, what the hell.

Fake tweeter? I'm not big on social media, but isn't that more of a Facebook screenshot or something?

I'm not on these platforms, but seems legit enough to me.

Any reasonable person agrees with this, but a lot of the leftists online, especially in cesspits like NeoGAF, honestly believe that all thoughtcrime must result in the destruction of the entire life and livelihood of the regressive who dare oppose the forces of campus-radical PC crusaders must be destroyed.

By that you mean some people believe that stuff on the internet is not happening in some parallel dimension? That things said that would get you shunned, fired or charged with a crime in real life should still carry those consequences over when there is a keyboard in front of you?

Insofar as he's said something to the effect of "you know, maybe they do have a point about gaming journalism being a mess" a handful of times over the last couple of years, yes.

Sure, but, that's for the police or some authority to decide.

Not a roaming mob of idiots on twitter.

Its both hilarious and sad that Sarkeesian get pilloried for things she didn't do (like siccing her fans onto Laura Kate) and things that she did do (denouncing doxxing: but not to your satisfaction.)

So it's ok to doxx certain people?
