Until recently I had always thought that anime was for weird people, (U know who live with their mums at 30 lol) no offense. however after being a member on the escapist for a month I have noticed that a lot of people seem to like it so I started to watch some and I have enjoyed what I've seen, however I cant find any more which I might like. So any suggestions???

I have watched:
Full metal Alchemist
Bleach
Hellsing

So something like that...

If you're alright with the occasional boob, Ranma 1/2.

At least those 30 year old guys can spell weird :D

Some classics:
- Cowboy Bebop (the only anime series I've ever truly loved, not just liked)
- Cowboy Bebop Knockin' on Heavens Door (movie from the already mentioned series)
- Howl's Moving Castle
- Ghost in the Shell
- Spirited Away
- Steamboy (have to include that because I'm such a massive steampunk fanboy)

Given, 3/4 of those are anime films instead of series, but it's a nice kick-off I reckon. They're all not your average anime, less... Asian, and yes I realise how that sounds, but those are anime that don't really fall in the average anime cliché: over-the-top females (except for Fay in Cowboy Bebop, but at least she's a solid character), androgynous males, weird 'anime poses' (you know, with the flashy colours in the background while they freak out or something) and things like that. I'm not a big fan of those typical anime things, hence why I like the little list above so much.

I have so far only kinda liked two; Naruto and Full metal Alcumist. Full metal is about science and guns etc while Naruto is about ninjas. The only reason i read them or watch them is cos some my freinds love anime, so i need to relate.

seconded

plus

Ghost in the Shell (The first movie)
Ghost in the Shell:Stand Alone Complex
Ghost in the Shell:Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG

Eventually (once you're ok with mind fraks), you should watch

Neon Genesis Evangelion
FCLC

but you should give the forum some examples of things you like to watch now... there are a lot of different types of anime to choose from

For action/horror

Gungrave
Berserk (beware it has an abrupt ending)
Hellsing

For comedy/ecchi

Kiss x sis
Kampher
Queen's Blade (didn't like it, but I see why people could)

And just so I can bring them up

Noir (if you can handle it being SLOW)
Onegai Teacher (SLOW)
Serial Experiments Lain (Didn't get confused, but I was surprised at how many got lost on this one)

Try "One Piece". It's about 400+ episodes (watch at least first 5-10). Maybe you won't like it, but if you do...

Princess Mononoke- The plot is good, dubbing work is excellent, and it's worth watching quite a few times over. It's what sold me on anime in the first place.

Outlaw Star- An excellent space western. Granted, it's no Firefly, but this was so good it helped inspire Whedon to make Firefly in the first place.

Excel Saga- This comedy series is the most batshit crazy thing you'll see. I guarantee it. It's also a parody of nearly everything.

Lucky Star- It's like anime Seinfeld... with high school girls. It's a show about nothing, but manages to be hilarious.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya- This popular series continues to meet the hype around it. The premise is, basically, a Japanese schoolgirl is God, but doesn't know it. If she gets bored with the world, she'll end it and make a new one. People thus try to keep her highly ADD self entertained, and hilarity ensues.

EDIT: Also, all these that I recommended (except Princess Mononoke, which is a 134 minute movie) are only one season long, so it won't take you forever and a day to watch them all.

EDIT AGAIN: Though I'd love to see more seasons of all of them released over here.

I think you would like Trigun, Rurouni Kenshin and Inuyasha. Give them a look.
And Naruto is a great anime/manga, but a lot of people dont seem to like it. At least give it a try. :p

This is the only anime that doesn't repulse me with its utter and complete awfulness. Miyazaki is a creative genius and the closest thing the world still has to the wonderful, boundless imagination of Walt Disney.

I'm not the biggest anime fan, but there are several animes I enjoy.

Some examples:

(semi-)serious:
- Planetes
- Last Exile
- Cowboy Bebop

comedy/not serious:
- Excel Saga
- FLCL
- Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann

Just stay away from the mass-marketed mainstream stuff, which is exactly what gives anime a bad name (apart from the retarded 'ecchi' stuff, which I won't go into... not to mention 'hentai' which is strictly basement-dweller only): Naruto, Dragon Ball Z, One Piece, Sailor Moon, Inu Yasha, Bleach, Full Metal Alchemist, etc etc etc.

Or, if you're interested in this kind of stuff but want to stay away from anime, try reading some manga (japanese comics). They tend to be less geeky, and there are some very good ones out there being sold by Western publishers.

A little more I just remembered being good

Blue gender - prepare to go "WTF!" right from the start.
D.Gray man - kinda long and there's a bit of filler in the middle.
Death Note - I liked it a lot of people loved it so check it out I guess.
Getbackers - again good for a laugh good bit of action in it too.
Hellsing - crazy action packed awesome.
