If you're going to watch Death Note, just stop watching once L dies. Just pretend that's the last episode. Trust me on this one.
Brilliant! Recommend a show, then reveal one of its biggest plot twists! :\

Really? You didn't see it coming? The protagonist defeating the antagonist in an anime? Really?

That's not a twist, that's a perfectly straight line.

Light may have been the protagonist, but he was obviously losing it: the story covered so many gray areas I never knew who to root for. At least until Light became a power-hungry douchebag. So somewhere in the first 10 episodes.

Advice: try browsing TV Tropes, you'll find something there.

Some series I'd recommend, though not necessarily for non-fans:
Nanoha (gets better later in the first season, and A's kicks ass).
Haruhi (skip the second season, though, Endless Eight sucked).
Gurren Lagann.
Possibly Evangelion, depending on your liking of mindscrew and tolerance for Shinji.
And, of course, anything by Miyazaki/Ghibli.

Oh, and for inevitable anime bashing: *loads Raising Heart*

Until recently I had always thought that anime was for weird people, (U know who live with their mums at 30 lol) no offense. however after being a member on the escapist for a month I have noticed that a lot of people seem to like it so I started to watch some and I have enjoyed what I've seen, however I cant find any more which I might like. So any suggestions???

I have watched:
Full metal Alchemist
Bleach
Hellsing

So something like that...
You can try Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.

It's another try at making a FMA anime, but this time, they're following the manga.

Samurai Champloo and Cowboy Bebop are the only two anime shows I like, along with an occasional movie like Ghost in the Shell.

Pretty much all Studio Ghibli is legendary...maybe its just me but after watching Spirited Away it makes me feel refreshed and happy :)
Satoshi Kon has also made some pretty excellent movies. Like Perfect Blue, Millennium Actress, and Paprika.

Plus, Akira and Steamboy are quite good.
