I'm not huge into anime but Fullmetal Alchemist is my favorite probably one the top 5 of my favourite shows. And for movies princess mononoke, that was fucking excellent, better than spirited away! Check out some of the anime's abridged series on youtube. Yu Gi Oh abridged is probably the best one. The one I'd check out next is Elfin Lied abridged. They're like 5 minuet abridged versions of anime episodes, but done in a silly manner.

Its hard to know what to recommend without better knowledge of your preferences but I can tell you what my preferences are and some anime that fits those preferences. If my preferences sound good to you you will probably like them. Fullmetal Alchemist points me in the direction that you will like my picks but Bleach points me in the opposite direction. (I don't know anything about Hellsing.)

Myself, I like dark, complicated stories with a mystical feel to them. Such as...

Ghost in the Shell
complicated, mystical

Death Note
dark, complicated

Evangelion
very mystical

Paprica (a movie)
complicated, mystical

This is the only anime that doesn't repulse me with its utter and complete awfulness. Miyazaki is a creative genius and the closest thing the world still has to the wonderful, boundless imagination of Walt Disney.
Only anime made by them?
No Cowboy Bebop, Japanese version of One Piece (hint: there are no cork guns and rubber hammers in this version), Outlaw Star or anything else?

Everything you've seen that isn't made by them sucked that hard?

I do believe most of them are based on Japanese fairy tales and myths, so I wouldn't call the plots stupid, just... scary, actually, if you think about them in real-life terms.

Not a big anime fan, I don't really get it.

I always say about anime "I'm confused, enraged, and aroused all at the same time." However, I don't really know many anime fans, and the ones I do know definately DO NOT help the stereotype of anime watchers being weird.

I watch a lto, and my personal favorite, which most of my friends disagree on is FLCL. Other then that I've watched Gurren lagann, Bleach, Desert Punk, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, cowboy bebop, Trigun [Do they have an anime? I'll have to look that up.] That's all I can manage right away.

Until recently I had always thought that anime was for weird people, (U know who live with their mums at 30 lol) no offense. however after being a member on the escapist for a month I have noticed that a lot of people seem to like it so I started to watch some and I have enjoyed what I've seen, however I cant find any more which I might like. So any suggestions???

I have watched:
Full metal Alchemist
Bleach
Hellsing

So something like that...
I would just like to take a moment to state the fact that Bleach ends at Episode 63. Everything after that is just... Ugh. Right then. Moving on. More Anime You Should Watch In No Particular Order:

Death Note
Samurai Champloo
Blood+
Gungrave
Basilisk
Berserk (oldie but SUCH a goodie)
all the Samurai X OVA's
Ghost in the Shell (ALL of them)
TriGun
Spriggan
Last Exile
Trinity Blood
Elfen Lied
GunXSword
Wolf's Rain
Escaflowne
Grave of Fireflies
Princess Mononoke
Akira
Blue Gender
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiyah

and depending on your ability to cope with the "Wierd Shit" I reccomend:
Lain
FLCL
Excel Saga
Gantz

Edit: You can actually watch most, if not all of Haruhi Suzumiyah on YouTube at this very moment. I don't normally like the Japanese Highschool type anime, but dear god this series is hilarious.

Raccoon testicles as an instrument for blunt force trauma. Full stop (Read a Cracked article about that one).

Cowboy Bebop is a classic.

Fullmetal Alchemist though I'd recommend Brotherhood if you haven't read the manga.

Hellsing Ultimate because the manga is pure win and by extension the anime actually following it is pure win.

DBZ for the love of God at least the first saga! My fondest childhood memory is Frieza vs. Goku.

Deathnote.

In all honesty, read manga. It is ALWAYS better than the anime (plus, then you don't need to wait for Hellsing Ultimate to get a new episode). Hellsing actually made me stop reading as much manga as I did because it was literally as good as anything was ever gonna get.

I'm gonna go ahead and recommend Baccano! I'm watching it right now and am truly enjoying the blend of 1930s mafia story with some alchemy thrown in.

http://myanimelist.net/anime/2251/Baccano!

All the episodes are dubbed and up on Hulu so even people that hate watching anime in Japanese have no excuse to not watch it.

If you haven't seen Death Note already DO IT!!!! FMAs brilliant, theres one called Nodame Cantabile which is about classical music- its really well done.

Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo are made more or less by the same people and are both awesome. First 'proper' anime I watched (not the intermediate kiddy stuff) was Cyber City Oedo 808 but it's really hard to find these days... if anyone can find it post a link. I liked that too. fyi theres an animated tekken movie somewhere on the net if ur interested in that type of thing.

That is a Japanese myth, based around raccoons getting enlarged... you know, during mating season.

I don't like most anime (but then again Anime have their own subgenres which are favorable or unfavorable) and I recall liking Full Metal Alchemist, Trigun, one of the older Gundam shows, and Death Note wasn't bad.

I've got two suggestions, but they're more of a "based on reality" type of thing. No aliens, super powers, giant robots or magic. Not sure if that'll appeal to you but here they are:

City Hunter
You're Under Arrest!

Still, tanuki that hit people with their balls (there's a good reason for it, no need to go all Freudian like that.) is still really freaking weird (by today's standard), even if it is part of myth.

Im a huge fan of code geass, great story, amazing dubs, pure awesome story, and the charecters are very relatible, this is by far the best anime i have ever watched, idk if they still show it on Adult swim, but i would look it up.

BTW
Great animes so far, im not a big fan of hellsing, but bleach is awesome and fullmetal is really good too.
